Tomahawk Notes 12.07.10
-Miami lost commitment Teddy Bridgewater. Most expect Bridgewater to eventually re-commit to the Canes, but as of now Miami has only four commitments, one of which isn't expected to qualify. Only one of Miami's remaining commitments is desired by the 'Noles or Gators. The 'Canes really need a bit of a miracle at this point and there is a distinct chance that the 'Canes' new coach will have a much better 2011 than 2012 or 2013 due to last year's poor recruiting and this year's sinkhole class. There are some rumors of Will Muschamp to Miami, which would be an incredible hire for the Canes, but those have been debunked.
UM has suspendedmost recruiting activity until a new coach is hired, athletic director Kirby Hocutt said after Shannon's firing. A recruiting weekend scheduled to begin on Friday has been canceled by UM.
"If Miami gets a [Mississippi State coach Dan] Mullen or [Texas Tech coach Tommy] Tuberville, they will still be a program to watch but if they have to settle for a smaller name guy, it could spell trouble," Rivals.com recruiting analyst Mike Farrell wrote recently regarding UM's 2011 freshman class.
-This article is quite hilarious. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney actually pulled the "if we had a kicker we'd be 9-3 and division champs instead of 6-6." card. He neglected to mention his poor offense coaching and squandering of one of the best defenses in the country.
-FSU bowl swag: $250 gift card to best buy, some Chick-Fil-A, a cap, and a bag.
- Florida State Seminoles provide glimpse into future in ACC title game loss
-I am not confident that Ponder will play the bowl game, nor Datko who likely needs shoulder surgery on at least one of his shoulders. Rodney Hudson has been in a walking boot for a while now and I am not sure if he needs rest or surgery. If it is surgery I think the honorable thing to do would be to let him go under the knife now to make sure he is ready for the senior bowl. He's given FSU so many great games. If he needs a surgery with a recovery time necessitating that he miss a meaningless bowl game in order to play in the senior bowl at 100%, I hope he gets it.
-I believe FSU will be the home team for the Chick-Fil-A bowl, which means the home uniforms. Last year VT wore white against Tennessee.
-Cam Wade is graduating this Friday. Congrats to #87 on that degree.

Regarding the Muschamp rumors:
BryanDFischer: NO. Helping hire assistants at UT right now… RT @fbrumormill: Muschamp to Miami? http://bit.ly/gntbA8
"FEAR is just the Opening ACT!!!" Coach Coley
Was just going to post this
I could never see Muschamp leaving for Miami. After having the money and attitude from the administration to give a program everything it could dream of why step down to go to Miami. Especially since the money will be comparable and you are next in line to take over at Texas? With Mullen and Harbaugh working on extensions and Tubberville saying he hasn’t been contacted looks like Miami won’t get a splashy hire. This year is already a lost cause for them, and a guy like Edsall or Golden will have to work his tail off to pull a monster class next year with Fisher and Meyer breathing down his neck.
by osceolafan2.0 on Dec 7, 2010 1:00 PM EST up reply actions
Miami needs to make a SPLASH with a big coaching name, but all the big names are staying put…. One name everyone probably hasn’t thought about that would reveal BB true feelings about JIMBO…… " Terry Bowden" that would shake things up!!!!!!
hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard
by lawj on Dec 8, 2010 12:23 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Not a big name at all
Terry has been out of football too long to impress kids and the Bowden name means nothing to them because more of their football watching lives Bobby wasn’t doing anything. Saw a rumor that Miami has made some sort of contact with both Mullen and Tubberville. Of the two of them I think Tubbs would be more likely to jump since he is a known mercenary and isn’t in line for a better job in a year or two.
I’d be fine with them getting Tubbs. He has a big enough name to make them stretch themselves money wise but isn’t as good a recruiter as he once was and is known for having a poor offense lately.
by osceolafan2.0 on Dec 8, 2010 9:30 AM EST up reply actions
muschamp would be an idiot
to leave a program w/inflated expectations, but w/the means to meet those expectations (or at least come very close), for a program w/inflated expectations, but w/out the means to meet them. Think about it, from the #1 recruiting class in the nation to a school w/4 recruits? no chance.

and they both need to be healthy for the senior bowl and the combine
Ponder has some climbing to do after the season he’s had with production with injuries. Hudson is smallish (6’2", sub 300lb), and he needs to avoid any knocks (like injury or getting beat while playing hurt) to convince a team to draft him higher than some of the bigger guys available. the competitor in them wants to play, but the cooler head should prevail and hold them out if they arent at least 90% without significant risk of further issues.
however, that wont stop me from going anyway (already got my tix, 13 rows from the field). i want to see my team play in a good bowl, and i think EJ can take advantage of USC’s crappy pass D. rolling him to the right would alleviate the hole in the line if Hudson didnt play. and be honest, if our DL wasnt so gassed, we played well enough on offense to win that ACCCG. offense isnt the problem. EJ isnt Ponder just yet, but he should still outplay USC’s secondary, and he’s better Garcia by miles. this matchup on pass offense doesnt bother me that much.

Jacobbi needs surgery too correct?
chances at a win were 50/50 at best coming in. while this might be the best decision for these guys going forward, it kinda kills any chance we had at a win. 5 losses, do not want.
I don't know about any chance.
But it obviously puts us at a disadvantage.
Don't want 5 losses either, but sitting these guys may be good for the Process
Gives the returners extra time to rehab/heal, and for the guys getting ready for the Sr events, it shows the team and recruits that the coaches are trying to look at the greater good, instead of holding out for a mostly cosmetic bowl win to please the casual fan or school administration.
2011 Season
I think our team will be a lot better next year. I mean a lot better. EJ under center in his junior year is going to be something special to see next year. He brings so much to the table for our offense. Our defense will have another year to learn the Stoops defense, and will be better as well. I see us being a top 10 team in the preseason in 2011. Just wait and see.

Meh
It’s worded a bit strangely, but I get the point – you have to finish the game. No matter how big the lead is, there’s just as much time in the second half as there was in the first, meaning theoretically the opponent could score as much (or more) as you did in the first.
You can be “undefeated” in first halves and never win a game, so finish it.
I completely understand if they hold CP out.
We don’t want to risk his long term future. I would love to see his final game as a Nole in person though.
