Telvin Smith Picks... Florida State (again)
Telvin Smith picked the Noles! It was close, but in the end he felt like Florida State was "about to take off and felt like home" Smith is an elite prospect and he had already committed to Florida State back on July 31st.
As previously profiled (see above link), Smith is 6'3" 205 lbs and lightning quick. He is a terror off the edge. Smith is a cousin of FSU stud freshman cornerback Greg Reid, also of Valdosta Lowndes.
Per ESPN:
Smith is a great upfield, vertical attacking linebacker with a difference maker presence on the perimeter. This kid can run as well as most linebackers in this class and make plays sideline-to-sideline. Has a tall, rangy, high-cut frame with a ton of physical development left. Utilizes his lengthy body and wingspan along with his great acceleration to cover a ton of ground quickly on his pursuit to the football. His range on both run and pass support is highly coveted at the next level. Plays inside and out but is more natural and highly productive as a pressure perimeter 'backer. Gets a quick jump off the snap and has striking initial burst and upfield acceleration. Very difficult to outflank to the perimeter with his great closing and recovery speed when he does get caught out of position. Takes sharp direct angles to the ball with little wasted motion.Florida State is well on its way to securing the top defensive class in the country.

Remember when we were all watching the same thing one year ago for Greg Reid?
See you next year for Tyler Hunter.
I don't think there was video though
We all listened in.
I remember Bud saying something about how he was in class (at Bama) and when Reid picked us everyone who was on their computers got all pissed off.
That took an hour, they’d remove one team every 20 minutes.
Speak softly, and carry a big Spear
The interesting thing about this is folks on the UGA boards
talking about “stealing” one from Lowndes, since FSU has a pipeline.
Getting a commitment in your own state, indeed your own backyard, over a 7-6 team, is “stealing one”? Seriously?
UGA fans have pathetically low expectations and aspirations for their rpogram.
My values: I love my wife, admire my dog, and believe very deeply that Bobby Bowden and Paula Dean were separated at birth.
Well, Smith needs to be the last one they steal
From us anyway

This thing smells dawg
all the way. Announcing that you’re still committed to school A on school B’s streamer. School B’s rival site has you as the main story, School A has you as a side story…
Hopefully cause he found out that we’re getting more LBs (C Jones) so he’s saying screw that I wanna play.
maybe the embedding messed it up, but I can hear it with this page

Where is this going to be?
I’m going to be in Valdosta for work in 30 min. I might stop by! I’m already decked out in FSU gear!!! Maybe I can slip him an Andrew Jackson lol
Reid went to Lowndes.

For some reason...
…I’m not remotely sweating this one. Maybe it’s a combination of us being pretty solid at LB…and the projected class we’re going to sign.
48 more hours of this

LOL, its kind of fun in a sadistic kind of way.
The anticipation, build up and then exhilaration of getting future stars.
Up to 650 viewers! Telvin just gave a quick teaser interview. He’s definitely going last.

I am not a recruiting geek like most of you, (jk) and I'm usually content just letting the rest of you tell me whether to be excited or not about a prospect.
and I am probably stating the most obvious “D’OH” seen here in a while, but I can’t see this announcement ending well with the kid sitting in from of a Herschel Walker jersey. Someone please tell me I’m wrong.

We've done really wel with Lowndes kids and Greg Reid is his cousin
we will see. I am like 65/35 FSU
What's UGa depth chart look like at LB??
It would be hard for me to believe UGa has more of a need at LB than we do.
Hopefully, Hudson had a good long talk with him about what he will do to develop him.

He says they’re pretty confident that Richt steals this one back to UGA
Gripper
West Georgia
Is in Carrollton Ga. About 40 min. west of Atlanta
They should interview G5
Have him rep our comeback or somethin.
Ive decided how its gonna go
He is gonna put on the UGA hat. Then, out of nowhere, Greg Reid is gonna appear, and shove him. Telvin is going to look at him real hard, like he is gonna fight him. Right before he swings at GR (he will have cocked back), he is going to smile, and throw his arms around Reid. Then he is going to take the FSU hat conveniently placed on Reids head off, act like he is going to throw it in on the ground, then TURN WWF STYLE. Take off the dawg hat, throw it on the ground, and start doing the chop as he puts on the NOLE HAT!
And that folks, is how its gonna go down.
if that happens!
i will say that coley had everything to do with it!
Thank God for the men and women who stand tall in the night to protect this great country we love so much
1000 viewers
Curious what the number drops to after the announcement. 1000 —> 600 means 400 pissed UGA or FSU viewers will drop off immediately.
Where?
Where are they at again? Carrollton is like twenty from me. If Reid might be there I am heading there now.
Telvin Smith announcement is in Valdosta

For some reason, I have an irrational dislike of Georgia. I think it has to do with their fanbase taking vicarious credit for all SEC accomplishments in the past ten years, despite being a largely mediocre program.
They certainly do
I’ve never understood hating a team all year as they do with (UFAG), then rooting for them when they’re playing for it all

I went to Valdosta a few years ago
Worst experience of my life. I was driving with my best friend to go to Wet and Wild or whatever that park is called, (was terrible btw) and we stopped to eat at a PIzza hut. When I walked in, I was the darkest guy in the place. I sat down and had like 20something people staring at me. This wasnt paranoia, my friend asked me if I noticed it too. I will never forget the monster truck outside with the Giant confederate flag. I told my buddy we needed to eat in the car. Unbelievably uncomfortable.
Valdosta
Had a similar experience at a gas station there. Dude used the N-word.(didnt see me standing behind him) I thought the clerk was going to crap his pants.

At this point, you almost have to say yes, even though I don’t expect a win.
Sue > Hamilton?
52 – 37 with 15:15 left in game
Oh common
No contest, Coach Sue is one of the best coaches we have at Florida State.
Impossible to say
two very different sports (men’s and women’s basketball)
I think certain fundamentals could transfer
but strategies differ. More physical post play is possible in men’s. That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Coach Sue give our men’s offense a shot for a game or two.
I've read Sue hired an offensive guru to right the offense midway through her tenure here.
Which coincided with us becoming pretty solid. Our women’s team was just as awful as our men’s team when Sue took over. We’ve since made 5 straight NCAAT’s and are in the process of our 6th. If Hamilton ever gets us to 5 straight and consistently ranked in the top 25, I’ll be happy (not one or the other, but both). If we are consistently ranked, he’s either improved our offense to make it respectable or he’s recruited such great talent that his offensive coaching deficiencies are masked.
And I’d think a good coach can implement a good system anywhere or be willing to adjust it to fit the situation. But I guess a college coach isn’t always good in the NFL and an NFL coach isn’t always good at 2 different teams. So I guess a good coach can’t do it anywhere.
The NFL comparison is a good one
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I think if men’s and women’s ball was really similar, you’d see more coaches moving in between the two.
But agreed, a good coach adjusts to the challenges presented to them.
I had a couple of women atheletes
in the classes I taught at FSU back in the 80’s. Splendid people, intelligent, good students. One, a volleyball player, I believe, went on to be a super model and marry some surf god. We called her Gabby, but I cannot recall her name. Anybody help me out?

Nice Job to coaches for holding onto MR Telvin Smith

good luck bro! go noles
Ole Mark Richt hasn't done that well over time at UGA
Top 10 then middle top 20, then lower. Ended up 2009 about equal with FSU. Damn, had he stayed at FSU, he might be head coach now. And FSU would be in much worse shape. Idle speculation, of course.
Chief Osceola
I'm not sure what more UGA should expect.
He’s averaging 10 wins/season and won the SEC twice in his 9 years. They hadn’t won one since 1982…
He's doing well at UGA (89-27 overall). But there's a ceiling at that school that falls short of them being able to contend on a NC level
They can be an elite SEC team for a year or so. But if a Bama UF or LSU is strong they immediately fall down in the pecking order
by westcoastnolefan on Feb 1, 2010 9:06 PM EST up reply actions
I've never really understood this...
While UGA ain’t Bama…they’re located in a great football state, have very good tradition, a good college town, and a ton of resources. And yet they are a perennial also-ran for decades and decades on end, at best (save when #34 was there).
Good points........but
When was the last time they’ve had a truly great coach. One who could keep Bama and to a lesser degree Tennessee out their state. Auburn too(Ronnie Brown, Tray Blackmon). It’s all there for them, they just need to close their borders. Example: Keeping Smith does more than just secure a good player. It keeps Lowndes HS as a feeder school for the future. But if Richt and Saban switched places, imagine what would happen? Meyer would take a job in conference USA

*shudders*
Georgia has more money than just about anyone folks. Great campus, great facilities, loyal fans, pretty women, well-heeled boosters including Atlanta corporations, top 5-10 recruiting bed.
Mark Richt is the glass ceiling. He’s just not incisive enough to put the pieces together and bring in a modern staff. His last name might as well be Bowden.
My values: I love my wife, admire my dog, and believe very deeply that Bobby Bowden and Paula Dean were separated at birth.

We need all the LBs we can get…perhaps the least amount of depth there.

Post-NSD what are the restrictions on our coaching staff working with Telvin?
He’s a very lean 205 lbs and must majorly bulk up before getting serious reps at linebacker. I’m guessing we can’t send the guy Weight Gain 5000000 Powder while he’s in Valdosta, but in the past how much have our S&C coaches worked with our incoming class before they arrive? Surely they send them workouts and fairly tailored dieting outlines for gaining mass.
LOL

I'm sure that's a major goal of his...
and when you’re a only a ~17 year old kid…you can easily put on pounds and pounds of muscle in the coming months and years.
They can't be spotted by our SC staff or anything,
but they’ll be sent some full workout programs to do during the spring and summer as well as nutrional and supplement information to follow.
i dont have internet at home and relied on refreshing this thread every minute.
Once things became a flurry around 7:58pm, it was almost as fun as listening to Greg Reid’s announcement last year. My heart was fluttering as I scrolled down everybody’s rapid-fire and terse comments. Kinda neat, so thanks everyone.
If he decided to flip to UGA I would’ve been able to see the half-full glass and move on, but I’m REALLY glad we kept him. Telvin is a specimen LB prospect that we haven’t had in a while. (Bradham was, but.a different mold)

Terrance Brooks Schooll, Dunnellon HS
is not in Brooksville. Not a major deal, but wanted to help you get it right. It’s in Dunnellon or Marion County. Brooksville is in Hernando County.
