Ha Ha!

I was wondering when this was going to be addressed. It got out of control for a bit there…I just figured the powers that be were busy eating Jimmy Johns or something

Quite some time ago.

They’re club but they are pretty damn good. A couple of firsts for them this year too. They recently played an indoor game in Orlando against UF before the Orlando Titans NLL game. Don’t know the score, though.

We ended on a nice high note with Green.

Top to bottom the class is a success. Would’ve liked a few more, but I guess we can’t be greedy.

but you also have to be realistic. Can’t get them all.

Got the 2 I most wanted...

and I’m now very pumped about Bjoern. Lemonier won’t pan out (my prediction).

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

Okay, so is there going to be any glaring depth issues with out defense from this class

Not sure of the numbers off my head from FSUUncensored articles but is there a position that could be a problem in the coming year with depth.

by diablonole on Feb 3, 2010 4:02 PM EST reply actions

I imagine the charts will be updated soon with the new recruits.

It’ll be easier to analyze then. I can’t think off hand how many “2010 commit” placeholders were present for each position.

by Randall W. Spetman on Feb 3, 2010 4:03 PM EST up reply actions

We look solid everywhere. D-end would be my only worry.

We need a guy to step up & get a lot of sacks.

GO NOLES!!! SCALP EM!

trust me the potential is there

and they will finally have coaching and a decent S&C program, plus new nutritional program as well

by BS37FSU on Feb 3, 2010 4:06 PM EST up reply actions

We have quality, but youth, at both DE spots.

You could slate them in differently, but we have something along these lines:

SDE:
Dawkins
Cummings
Werner
Hicks

WDE:
White
Jenkins
Stevens
Jackson

by arrdub on Feb 3, 2010 4:08 PM EST up reply actions

Jones stays at LB

and I think Dan Hicks is the sleeper in that group. He has a great frame to add muscle, good pedigree (dad was Dan Footman) and he was a hurdles champion in HS. For those of you that don’t remember his dad, have your friend get in a large SUV and hit you with it. That is what Footman was like.

by BossNole on Feb 3, 2010 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

Good genes for Hicks, for sure.

His dad would have been an All Pro if not for knee injuries, imo.

by arrdub on Feb 3, 2010 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

Hopefully not.

And probably not feasible. Our most severe depth issues are at LB.

by arrdub on Feb 3, 2010 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

For next year i dont think we have any

if we can’t sign some DL and OL next class than we start to look a little thin. But after seeing what Jimbo and co. did the last 2 months I can’t imagine they will screw up next years class

by BS37FSU on Feb 3, 2010 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

Of course, recruit rankings mean nothing.

As much as he has done for the program, Rolle was the #1 consensus recruit but didnt have a huge impact. Now we have to hope the players have the talent and desire and the coaches can get the most out of them.

Signature space available for rent - Got to pay the bills somehow

by Buc Wild on Feb 3, 2010 4:03 PM EST reply actions

Won't go into it here too much

But Rolle I think should have been made apparent that he was a standout player by seeing what an average talent like Mangum was able to do there, or his backups.
Rolle has proved to be a potential 2nd round pick, with a year off from football, with a average statistical career. I’d say he’s pretty sensational as a player.

by Njfoshizzy on Feb 3, 2010 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

Ponder was a 3*

And IMO he’s one of the best QBs in the game (if healthy)

by NoleinPA on Feb 3, 2010 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

I like how Auburn's coach admitted that

on ESPN. He said they would not know how their class would be until 2 – 3 years down the road. He started babbling coach speak at first, but then he seemed to get real when it came to the final rankings.

by nolestuff on Feb 3, 2010 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

Of course stars aren't the end all be all, but if you're not consistently

bringing in elite classes, you’re not going to be winning. It’s a combination of proper evaluation and coaching, but don’t kid yourselves saying that rankings don’t mean anything. You need elite talent to compete for mNC.

Strictly referring to the 305 hype.

It matters where we get the results from. Got it.

by NoleLaw on Feb 3, 2010 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

Seriously?

This goes back to everybody thinking Coley’s tweets have literal meaning. They’re fluff and hype that aren’t tangible to anything, necessarily. Oh, and we smoked UM in recruiting South Florida this year.

by DKfromVA on Feb 3, 2010 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

He's just hyping FSU

People really need to pay less attention to what Coley says on twitter. The recruits can think it’s cool or whatever, but it probably shouldn’t be considered relevant.

by DKfromVA on Feb 3, 2010 4:20 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Lol say whatever you want to UM fans

It isn’t really relevant to what we should expect. They’re in a bad place now and it doesn’t matter why they think it to be the case.

I’m saying don’t beat the drum about South Florida, fail to deliver, and expect to get treated like a god.

Top 5 recruiting class???

who is ranking us top 5?
the real rankings Rivals will have us between 9-11

by crown royal on Feb 3, 2010 4:13 PM EST reply actions

rivals vs espn

as we moved up three spots on ESPN we dropped one on Rivals. I love the differences in the two rankings.

by NoleinPA on Feb 3, 2010 4:17 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe because....

one dont rank JUCO players……..and a couple of our players were sleepers……the kid from South GA…..

by goatnole76 on Feb 3, 2010 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

ESPN ranking more important

ESPN is the one on TV all day and the website will get more views than RIvals can ever dream off. While I do think Rivals is more spot on in their player rankings, ESPN produces more pub.

by osceolafan850 on Feb 3, 2010 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

And Rivals did not seem to do their homework on Smiley, McCloud.

Rated both of them as low as possible (5.6) on their scale, in terms of a school with offers from big programs.

by arrdub on Feb 3, 2010 4:48 PM EST up reply actions

They both sat out this year

You can’t rate a kid you can’t scout.

by osceolafan850 on Feb 3, 2010 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

about how athletic our freshman are and how their athleticism should be helpful in special teams right away. And not just in returns but coverage.

Is anyone else happy we did NOT get Demar Dorsey...

I love our newly added Christians and people like them and Ponder representing OUR university instead of…

by crown royal on Feb 3, 2010 4:17 PM EST reply actions

i wouldnt say im happy

i would have liked to have his talent, but with all the character issues im not bothered by the fact that he did not sign with us. So im in the same boat your in

by egynole on Feb 3, 2010 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

We'll all have to wait 1-2 seasons to know whether we were happy with Dorsey's decision

Same for everyone we did get. But in the end, I believe more is better in creating depth, and if Jimbo wanted him then we should trust he was worth it.

Crown, I'm not happy with us not getting him...

if that makes sense. I’ll keep my reasons to mahself.

by Randall W. Spetman on Feb 3, 2010 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

I basically agree with NoleLaw

High risk, high reward. If he gets in trouble, its another black mark on the program. If he succeeds, everyone forgets what happened in his HS days, and gives the program credit for taking a chance on a young man with character concerns.

When you have a kid like that, and you don’t know if he will pan out, it hurts a lot less than losing a 5 star, high character guy. It alters the projection on the guys projected benefit as a player.

by fsu44 on Feb 3, 2010 4:25 PM EST up reply actions

by The Ryno and I Know on Feb 3, 2010 4:26 PM EST reply actions

I'm really excited about...

Foose. I really felt like we needed an O-lineman in the class. I know we would have been ok without one, but I think it hurts your depth when you totall whiff on one position in one year- even if it is a team strength. Of course, very excited about getting some guys in real positions of need such as Werner and Jones. All in all, very solid class. Much to be excited about for the next few years!

by Kevinole on Feb 3, 2010 4:27 PM EST reply actions

Mrs. Trickett

She deserves credit for helping us close Werner and Foose. Foose’s Mom was worried about her baby being so far away from home and Mrs. Trickett got on the phone with her and assured her that she would make sure he was taken care of!

by nole34 on Feb 3, 2010 4:30 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

That's awesome.

The best recruiting story I’ve heard.

My values: I love my wife, admire my dog, and believe very deeply that Bobby Bowden and Paula Dean were separated at birth.

by PeachTreeNole on Feb 3, 2010 4:51 PM EST up reply actions

Jimbo sounds great

I like when he talks about how we’re a “new team” or “new program.”

by 38Noles on Feb 3, 2010 4:31 PM EST reply actions

Fisher just said Craig will be the new RC

But Coley will continue to support. Called them “Tubbs and Crocket” (Miami Vice reference for those that don’t get it).

by FtLauderdaleNole on Feb 3, 2010 4:35 PM EST reply actions

Does it worry you that...

our rivals at UF got 12 top 100 players and we get 4 (per Scout)

or that we’d have zero shot at Chaz Green even though he is in a position of need for us and is teammates with Christian Green

mark me down for thinking we still have some work to do

by crown royal on Feb 3, 2010 4:42 PM EST reply actions

Uhh

UF just won 2 titles in 4 years. We aren’t on their level. And O-line is not a position of need.

>>---l>

by DKfromVA on Feb 3, 2010 4:43 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

They took a knee in the first half against us.

Do you expect us to be able to pull in the same level of class?

Who’s saying we’re on their level yet?

by arrdub on Feb 3, 2010 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

It’s definitely worrying, but it’s completely expected.

UF is where we were in 1998-2000.

by 38Noles on Feb 3, 2010 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

We also just finished 7-6

And we have a first year head coach and a buttload of new coaches. I think we’ve done more than what was expected of us this year, given the circumstances.

This year’s recruiting is a success no matter which way you spin it. Remember we were like 37th before Bowden retired.

by FloridaState on Feb 3, 2010 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

It worries me a little Crown,

but, recruiting is only a piece of the puzzle. What is more important is what we do once we’ve gotten them. Coaching fundamentals (S&C, and schemes) is huge. Without, players don’t get better from year to year (see Chris Rix). How often do you see 5*’s flop and 3*’s play on Sunday. Recruiting is VERY important, but coaching is even more crucial.

by KoKo the Monkey (T-Bone) on Feb 3, 2010 4:48 PM EST reply actions

that Fisher is handing the keys to Luc and Joyner to become the leaders of this team. Maybe not immediately, but at some point, and soon.
