Current Class Rankigs

ESPN – #6
Rivals and SCout – #10

I don’t believe they have been updated since C. Green announced so we could still rise a couple spots

It's a beautiful day in Tallahassee

by RaysnNoles on Feb 3, 2010 5:01 PM EST reply actions

I've been waiting for them to update that

You would think since we got Green they would bump us to #5 or #4

by Squaaad Up!! on Feb 3, 2010 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

Doesn't matter

Today was a great start toward the future.

by mudra on Feb 3, 2010 5:02 PM EST reply actions

I did not get a damn thing accomplished today.........

thanks TN once again for being here for the FSU junkies. I am very excited about the future.

by Florida_State on Feb 3, 2010 5:03 PM EST reply actions

Urban Meyer was just on ESPNU

Dude looked terrible. I know they said he had gained 20 lbs back but it sure didn’t look like it. Something ain’t right…

by Pinto on Feb 3, 2010 5:04 PM EST reply actions

i thought the same thing.

he seems completely detatched…robotic…out of it. he’s sedated……

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:15 PM EST up reply actions

Sounds like most of us.

not jimbo

he had me ready to run through a wall.

by Sabon on Feb 3, 2010 5:53 PM EST up reply actions

Mizell

Since CJ Mizell failed to make it last year, Did we just not recruit him. Once you fail to qualify you basically become a “free agent”? So why would we not go after him again?

by FSUNole51 on Feb 3, 2010 5:04 PM EST reply actions

Agree

That’s the only thing I can think of, the staff not wanting to waste time. Too bad thought because he looks like a true stud

by FSUNole51 on Feb 3, 2010 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

Error on TN front page?

DeJoshua Johnson is listed as a safety.

by csfuu on Feb 3, 2010 5:05 PM EST reply actions

Mizell & Downs

Also a follow up to my last comment, any news on Willie Downs?

by FSUNole51 on Feb 3, 2010 5:05 PM EST reply actions

Neither of them will ever be at FSU

No more questions on those 2

It's a beautiful day in Tallahassee

by RaysnNoles on Feb 3, 2010 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

It just seems like you spend all this time recruiting these guys, and then you never even hear if there alive anymore. . .

by FSUNole51 on Feb 3, 2010 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly.

You spend all this time and when they don’t hold up their end, screw ’em.

by tricknole on Feb 3, 2010 6:35 PM EST up reply actions

I've heard Jimbo talk about support for the players a lot....

Has FSU given him… are team… the funds to do these support programs Jimbo is asking for? Example the nutrition program he talks about often? Btw TN is coming up on 3000 comments for NSD.

Serioulsy giddy looking at our class

I think if we started all of our DBs from this class it would be better than last years Secondary…

by garnetandgold on Feb 3, 2010 5:12 PM EST reply actions

Probably not if they were in that same scheme

Thankfully, our scheme (and personnel) will be changing next season

by DKfromVA on Feb 3, 2010 5:18 PM EST up reply actions

This is FACT OF LIFE

You can not be the dishonest jerk that Meyer has been and have continued success. It always catches up to you. What will happen when these kids find out what a scammer he is? Will they stick around and lay t all on the line for him?
We are on the right track. The whole world saw how to beat Meyer last year and, mark my words, the unraveling has begun. Top recruiting class or not, being deceitful, manipulative and disingenuous never works over the long run.

by mudra on Feb 3, 2010 5:17 PM EST reply actions

it doesn't seem to be catching up with him at all...

which I don’t get. he’s made of teflon. dull, boring, uninpring teflon. that might be M.I.A. soon. And yet…he signs the highest rated class ever. wth? i get it that uf has been great lately…but with the defections there and his situation…the sick class that he signed today…makes me sick. i hate UF!!!

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:19 PM EST up reply actions

The Sugar Bowl was a start.

He’s never been with a team thins long. Keeping it together is harder than bouncing onto the scene with a splash and surprising people. I know this sound really homer, but i believe it.

by mudra on Feb 3, 2010 5:23 PM EST up reply actions

I meant the game against Bama

The Sugar Bowl was a freak out of bizarre situations. I’m closing the laptop now. so I don’t show my ignorance any further….

by mudra on Feb 3, 2010 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

Why is it surprising?

These kids have watched them win 2 out of last 3 national titles. Law of recency. That’s why they know at 15-17 years old. The leave of absence turned out to be just a speed bump as Meyer did great damage control.

You’ll see the true impact in 2011. He’s lost an OC, DC, WR coach plus tons of talent to the NFL. Only a matter of time.

by FtLauderdaleNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:24 PM EST up reply actions

Reminds me of us in 2000

We lost Richt and Amato, coming off great run. Between replacing assistants with incompetent guys and poor talent evaluation and development, we fell apart.

I’m not impressed with Meyer’s replacements. He himself is no lock to be there next fall. I won’t be surprised if his “leave of absence” ends up more permanent.

by FtLauderdaleNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:27 PM EST up reply actions

By all accounts...

he’ll be back. and the “health issues” aren’t remotely serious. it’s becoming more and more clear that it’s an anxiety issue. anyone notice how sedated he’s been since December? MEDICATION. now maybe that will hinder him…but time will tell. i do strongly believe he will be back…and past next season…

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:30 PM EST up reply actions

it wasn't literally a joke

but he didn’t have a heart attack, he said “it’s not life threatening”…and they’ve kept it under wraps. and he appears to be on a sedative…e.g. XANAX. Panic attacks and generalized anxiety is the most likely culprit.

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:38 PM EST up reply actions

I don't believe what he said

Mainly because he kept it under wraps like that. I think anxiety resulting in chest pains and 9-1-1 calls constitute a serious medical issue and an unsustainable lifestyle in coaching.

>>---l>

by DKfromVA on Feb 3, 2010 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

He's a type A personality

Complete control freak. No way he can run that program any other way. Even if he’s taking medication, there are still health issues there (along with family/quality of life). I truly believe he held it together to get through NSD.

Also, FSU and UM essentially gave him full control of the state of Florida for a good 5-8 years. Same for Tennessee, Bama in the SEC. That won’t be the case any longer. All these programs are rebounding.

by FtLauderdaleNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:34 PM EST up reply actions

said he'd absolutely be coaching next year...

today on ESPN. said he’s excited about the future. we’ll see…but i’d bet he coaches there for a minimum of another 3-4 years. they’ve got more talent than anybody.

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

Good

I want to watch us beat him. And we will.

by mudra on Feb 3, 2010 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

by FiestaNole on Feb 3, 2010 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

Also USC last year

Their loss of coaches seemed to finally hurt them. Then again had Carrol stayed on they may have rebounded this coming year. We will never know though. It may have continued downwards.

by nolestuff on Feb 3, 2010 6:32 PM EST up reply actions

surprising only because

Urban tried to quit….still seems unstable…and they lost a ton of key coaches over past 2 years. Not surprising that they did very well…suprising that they signed arguably the greatest class of all time.

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

they promote any team that wins that much

remember USC in the early/mid 00s…i started to think “SC” stood for Southern Cal instead of SportsCenter!

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:40 PM EST up reply actions

Coaching Losses will hurt

Just like losing Mullen hurt his offense. Mullen was with Meyer for a long time. Strong’s defenses were dominant. They will definitely have issues next year just getting everyone on the same page. You might say the same about our defense if the old staff wasn’t so bad. Gators will suffer at least two losses next year and are a 50/50 to play for SEC championship.

by GonzoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

i am excited at the level of coaching that will match this talent.

this website (and this year’s defense) really opened my eyes to a problem in that department, and these new coaches seem like they are really going to take this raw talent and create a monster

CONGRATS FSUn and friends for a wonderful job!

been sitting here at the puter since 10;30 this morning. kudo’s to the new staff. was just going over the last 3 -4 recruiting classes and even being the cautious old fart i am, i really feel that if J.F. handles the step up and our guys are able to learn the new system quickly, we are better than anyone on the schedule except perhaps the turds okies. gonna be a long hot summer. Don't think so.

Very, very good class….but a rather anti-climactic NSD for us.

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:31 PM EST up reply actions

Meyer did get an incredible class

Half of the kids came because of the recent history. But have one getting ripped by Bama for the next four years. If you even make it to the SECCG.

I feel sorry for them though. Next year marks the decline. They will fall farther than Ron Zook could of ever brought them.

by numberonenole on Feb 3, 2010 5:30 PM EST reply actions

no chance.

their class is so loaded with defensive firepower…no amount of poor coaching could make it bad. And they’ve still got a good staff. Their DL will be SCARY.

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

Is that a joke?

Highschool talent means absolutely nothing after signing day. Half of his recruits could have off the field issues or more importantly like 60% of all 4/5* recruits they really dont ever do much.

Hes got Highschool studs and one of the best if not the best signing class ever. I am currently only worried about the kids who have played a college game or participated in practice at least.

by numberonenole on Feb 3, 2010 5:36 PM EST up reply actions

if you think recruiting means nothing...

I don’t know what to say. and most of their kids are qualified and don’t have too many “known” character issues (Willie Williams/Fred Rouse types). Both FSU and UF SEEM to have done well on character this year.

by PoseidoNole on Feb 3, 2010 5:42 PM EST up reply actions

agreed

Every year we have at least two kids with a couple prior run-ins. I didnt mean recruiting means nothing. Probably a poor choice of words. I meant after signing day, a recruits highschool status means nothing. Its all about spring practice then.

All but 3 of our recruits are on the defense. 7 of our guys are in the top 150 players on espn.

we have a little bit of an international flair , luc, werner, and onwukaife

i think we got some quality players that will be a close knit group.. and very special!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Number for 2011

Early look at what FSU should take

QB: 1
RB: 3
WR: 2-3
TE: 1
OL: 4-5
DE: 3
DT: 3
LB: 2-3
CB: 2-3
S: 2

That would be 23-27. We can take almost as many as we want since we only have 20 this year (4 EEs) but the total scholarship limit could hold us back from taking 30+

overwhelmingly due to the defensive side of the ball. Which is fine. It just means we’ll need to focus on O next year.

True

Aside from ‘07 (let’s just say it…that NSD STUNK)…we usually do very well. This year was looking ugly til the coaching change was made. Hopefully we can start recruiting at the ELITE level (both sides of ball) again soon….and coach it into champs.

Good advice there

I will try and remember it. I thought it was a great class. I did think we would get C. Smith and Dorsey though. They must have worked out quite a contract in Michigan for him to go up there and freeze to death. He might turn out well but we will have to see.

I had that link once today I should have book marked it. I can't find it now

I listened to Fisher’s whole interview. I would have never listened to BB’s blathering. Fisher is a genuine guy. It was refreshing to see a head coach who knows exactly what each recruit is about and how they fit into the system, what their attributes are what he expects from them.

He is very different as in rapid fire answers. He is hard to keep up with and his fingers keep tapping the podium like he is on Cuban coffee. I imagine it was a very stressful day for him also.

" Fisher’s approach to building a winner is lifted from Saban’s playbook. Right down to the terminology such as becoming more "process oriented" as opposed to "results oriented."

Here is where I am a bit confused

We are all giddy because we ranked 10th in recruiting (per Rivals) with a 3.50 average
but in 2009- we were 7th with a 3.62 avg, in 2008- we were 9th with a 3.33 avg, in 2007 we were 21st with a 3.20 avg, and in 2006 we were 3rd with a 3.68 avg.

How is our class any different than years past? We were better in 2 and maybe 3 of the past 4 classes than todays. If anything we should have had a better class this year because we had 2 very highly ranked legacy recruits.

Because now we have Coaches to make sure these guys stay in school and develop

Whats so hard to understand. All of that talent was wasted these past years

because the 10th rank recruiting class you see

was supposed to be ranked 39th. It was pulled in together by 5 coaches as oppose to 11. And now these kids actually have coaches and a system to develop them.

by egynole on Feb 3, 2010 9:00 PM EST up reply actions

semantics

they had a system but it was well out dated. Fisher’s said it, today’s football is different than the football of 5 years ago. And no, these kids did not have coaches by definition. They had figureheads, but very few men to “coach” them, to teach them. Take a look at myron rolle. He takes a year off of football, and goes down to the senior bowl and is “coached” for ONE WEEK by the dolphins coach, and is wowing scouts. So much so that they are saying he is a better player now than he was at FSU. What did he do on the field at FSU, average at best

Interesting.

A couple of the TN staff have really been the only ones who thought Dorsey could possibly have some character concerns. When I asked this in other forums, I got laughed at. Is there something we’re missing? I know he looked goofy in that video, but hell, he’s 18 years old

It's unreal the following this site has along with the dedication of the people responsible for it

Kudos to everyone!

I also follow the Gophers (painful, I know) because of relatives that attended Minnesota… their recruiting open thread on their SBnation site… 24 comments.

I love this place… and Coach Coley’s Twitter account.

They talked about how UM was banking on having all the players down there for this weekend

with 11 former UM players in the pro bowl and all and they didn’t close on any of their “big fish” targets that were down there. I hope Shannon gets an extension, he is doing more for our recruiting than Coley

Anyone questioning what Urban saw in his dreams

that he told all those recruits…

I think when he mean coaching them on the sidelines, he meant, coach bailing them out of Alachua County Jail.

The misses today

Lemonier
Smith
Ferguson
Dorsey
Deering

Honestly, it would have been great to get two of those five but they were never committed to us and in many cases we didn’t go after them until late in the process. Don’t see how anyone can be disappointed with our results today. Had we lost out on C Jones, C Green, Joyner then we’d have something to worry about.

Lol agreed

a lot of people wont be satisfied until we land all 150 of the ESPNU top 150. But in defense of the pessimist. A lot of outlets were doing a good job of getting everyone’s hopes up.

we cant sign 150 duh

#’s 1-28 will do I guess

I'd like to see

Our final class vs. one of the first mock classes created in February or March of last year—just for fun. We ended up with most of the big names identified back then. i.e. Joyner, Jones, Green, etc.

This program isn’t impressive right now. It will be elite again probably within 18 months, but not today.

It’s weird for the websites who cover it. I try to write and remind people that we shouldn’t accept mediocrity, but other sites sort of pump up this idea that we will get 10 5* commitments. That’s not going to happen unforunately.

Does anyone know our interest in Eric Young? are we going to go after him

Trickett

I would imagine he add a lot about what has went on around there the last few years. He is no doubt breathing a sigh of relief. Hard to imagine watching Fisher being told he has no authority by the likes of Chucky.

" Fisher’s approach to building a winner is lifted from Saban’s playbook. Right down to the terminology such as becoming more "process oriented" as opposed to "results oriented."

" Nick and I are friends," he said. "That guy is one of the best football coaches I’ve ever been around. God knows he’s brilliant. … A lot of the things he believes are a lot of things I believe. We’re very similar!

The process begins!
