Getting To Know FSU Coach Eddie Gran
Fascinating story about Eddie Gran and some of the struggles he has faced.
This article was written during his stay at University of Tennessee, but it gives you very good insight into what our new Running Back coach and recruiter Coach Gran is all about.

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing
And again, welcome to the staff Coach Gran
Really excited to have coach Gran
God has blessed his family and I am excited about what he brings to the table.
It's Probably Very Simple
Availability met opportunity. If you were a principled and honorable man like Gran (as the article detailed), how long would you tolerate having to personally cash checks that your knucklehead head coach was writing with his mouth? No doubt, Gran has been in this business long enough and wasn’t about to wait for the other shoe to drop and risk getting his reputation soiled or his character tarnished.
There is no doubt in my mind that Gran was not happy with Kiffins comments about Pahokee, and that was probably one of the factors, along with Kiffin being a douche, in his deciding to leave Tenn. faster than a crack whore will go down on you for a rock.
First Kiffin accused the school of planning to sabotage the faxing in of Nu’Keese Richardson’s LOI to Tenn. because they wanted Richardson to become a Gator. Then he dissed the entire town of Pahokee saying something to the effect that the town was a dump, that none of the gas stations work, and that the people are so poor they can’t afford shirts and shoes.
Shortly after these comments, Eddie Gran who previously had a good relationship with every high school he has recruited in, was humiliated when he was asked to leave Pahokee while there to offer another player a scholarship to Tenn., and told that he and the entire Tenn. coaching staff were banned until Kiffin publicly apologized.
I am sure this type of douchery by Kiffin was one of the reasons Gran high tailed it out of Tenn. to what many felt was a lateral move to FSU. Their loss was our BIG gain.

It'll be along time before UT recovers from Kiffin
And I don’t just mean the departure for USC. How can that fans base take the same pride in itself as before? They didn’t just condone that garbage they cheered it. Thought it was cool.
If they cheered Kiffin's behavior, doubt team pride will be an issue
For you and me, these rules would apply. But for UT fan’s who cheered these actions and condoned this garbage, then later, set Knoxville ablaze when Kiffin jilted them, you can bet that they know no shame.
Sounds like Coach Gran is a very blessed man.
We are very lucky to have him, I hope we can hold on to him for a while.
Very important story
It is important to always remember these coaches have families as well. With that being said, I am excited to see what Coach Gran will produce!

well said
Glad to see our coaches know there are priorities other than football. I hope it keeps them from losing perspective.

PB, Broward, and Dade... PWNED
I’d think having Gran or Coley alone would be enough, but the fact that they won’t be competing with each other makes it seem like we will have our picks. No way it will be that easy though. There always has to be a New Mexico State that ruins the fun.

Great article.
Thanks for sharing. TN uncovering another gem.
What a great story
As NoleLaw and g8rh8r said above, Jimbo plucking him away is genius, not to mention he is too strong and principled a man to coach under Kiffin. I’m also very excited about what he brings to the team — seems like not only a great coach (as evidenced by the players under him that have gone onto the NFL) and great recruiter (South Florida king), but a spiritually strong and honorable man.

Like Jimbo, Eddie Gran is also a very smart man.
I am going to go out on a limb and say he probably knew his stint at Tennessee was going to be a short lived one.
Eddie Gran was the only Tenn. assistant coach who did not sign a contract, which at Tenn. they call a memorandum of understanding.
By not signing the contract or MOU, Gran was not contractually obligated to pay UT for terminating his contract after making what is considered a lateral move to Florida State.
Under the terms of the MOU, Gran would have owed UT $92,500 payable over 24 months if he were to leave UT in a lateral move to another school.
Again, seems like a very smart man who obviously had some premonitions that the UT gig was not going to work out, and he even beat Kiffin to the punch in leaving Tenn.

Anyone think that Gran may want to head back to UT
perhaps as an OC? Article made it seem like it was his dream school to be at. Would love to keep him here, gotta love coaches like that
That's why I was asking about how he came to FSU
I was wondering if he reached out to FSU or whether it was the other way around.
I think all coaches pretty much say warm and fuzzy things about their current job.
