I tell ya, I dont mind this match-up.

1. Gonzaga is KenPom #56, which is pretty low. Compare that to the other # seeds: Texas is #17, UNLV is #37, California #14.

2. The Zags KenPom defensive rating is #67, which is not too high. Additionally, may MOST important, their turnover percentage on defense is #271. That is VERY low. Translation: they do not cause turnovers, which is huge for us.

3. Gonzaga gets a LOT of media love for being a good mid-major. They have historically not done well in the Tourney.

4. Gonzaga got blasted by Duke by 30 points earlier this year.

5. This game is in Buffalo. The committee is shipping Gonzaga into the eastern time zone. We live in the eastern time zone. Another break for us.

In my opinion, we caught a break. Of the #8 seeds, this is the one I would have picked.

Now, let me vent: Florida a #10 seed? Are you friggin’ kidding me? They should not even be in the Tourney.

In item #1 here, that should read, "compare to the other #8 seeds."

I disagree with them not faring well in the NCAAT.

They made 4 sweet sixteens in the aughts.
UNC made 5.
Syracuse made 4.
Florida made 3.
UConn made 5.
UCLA made 5.

They didn’t make an elite eight in the aughts, but, I mean, I’d be pretty happy finishing top 16 in the nation 40% of the time in basketball.

Everything else I agree with. I don’t really have a problem with florida’s 10 seed. Should they be behind Minnesota, Utah State, San Diego State, New Mexico State, Washington, Old Dominion, UTEP or Cornell? Maybe Cornell and Minnesota, but that’s it. Those were the 11 and 12 seeds behind uf. The only issue I have is letting Utah State and UTEP in. No way. Virginia Tech and Illinois should’ve been in over them. Everything else seems pretty good to me.

That's what happens when you lose to the likes of NC State

TWICE. You get a lower seed in the tournament and, therefore, a much tougher draw. I don’t expect FSU to make it past the opening round.

I'll take that bet. I was sick after friday night's horrendous performance, but FSU caught a

break this year. We will beat Gonzaga.

Ballsy prediction.

This is the best opening match-up we could have asked for (looking at the match-ups that were made)

We can/should beat Gonzaga, and if by some chance we beat Syracuse (because remember, they only play 8 of their guys) we could make a serious run, because this is by far the weakest bracket.

While I think the South is an easier region, I agree with you otherwise: this is the best

#8-#9 matchup we could have gotten.

You may be right about the South, but

I really like Baylor and Nova. Baylor because of Scott Drew and how he has them playing. Nova because teams with great guards can go far. After those two, yes, that bracket is a joke. Purdue and Texas A&M at 4 and 5 make me laugh. It’s like they set it up for Duke to at least make the Elite 8

I really like BU and Nova, too.

I think one of them wins that region.

I feel like we said that last year.

“This bracket sets us up to make a run.” I think 50% of teams think that. The other 50% think they were screwed over. I even think fanbases split that thinking, too. A couple idiots on WC think the NCAA screwed us over by making us a 9 seed. Others are saying what you are.

if we weren't a 9, we were an 8, and that is the same game, so, this seeding is correct to me

I think whoever wins the second round game between Cuse and whoever wins our game will be making the elite 8, the 4 teams in the other games are not that special.

Defense and guard-play wins championships/allow for runs. Cuse has both, we have defense. So, if by some MIRACLE, we get passed the 2nd round, I could see our defense propelling us an extra game or two.

Easy to dig this matchup, way better than playing some also ran like Wisc.

We have a great D, and if we can take them out of their game, you never know, we could win … or lose by 20. But who cares, should be fun, may get shot at a No. 1 seed and we have nothing to lose. Again: way better than last year’s draw IMO.

by hopnole23 on Mar 14, 2010 7:02 PM EDT reply actions

Now, the overall brackets, I have tons of criticisms, but I like our match-up

Temple a 5-joke (I think will be beat by Cornell)
ND a 6-joke
Marquette a 6-joke (althought not that bad, I saw them a 7)
Clemson a 7-joke
WF a 9-joke
UF a 10-complete and utter failure by the committee, because being a 10 means they were comfortably in

Like I said, if we can win our first 2 (big IF), then watch out because that bracket lines up well and we could make a serious run.

picked us over Gonzaga. That’s gotta count for something
