You know what? I really liked Drew. I thought he had talent.
Say what you want about the team, but Drew had great numbers in his junior season. And by great numbers, I mean 3. Three interceptions. We haven’t had a great passing quarterback in years, and in large part I think most of us rightfully blame the lack of a running game and Baby Jeff. CP7 and the FSU offense did an outstanding job last season, but for the sake of argument, we’re going to set that aside for right now.
In 2005, DW led the ACC in total passing yards (3208). Granted, he also led the ACC in total passing attempts (469). But still, A for effort. And he threw 18 picks in 05. In 2006 DW placed 5th in total yardage and threw 11 picks, which is actually in line with how many were thrown by the other ACC passing leaders. But in 2007, DW threw the exact same number of attempts as he did in 06 (318) but threw more completions. He threw three less touchdowns and less yardage, but dropped from 11 to just 3 interceptions. That was the best INT count in the ACC among starters. By far.
The main criticism many of us had of DW was his use of, or lack of, judgment. I think he showed in 2007 that, under proper coaching (ahem, Jimbo), he could develop into a fine quarterback. I really would have liked to see what he could have done in 2008. And given Ponder’s performance that year, I don’t think it would have mattered if DW repeated his 2007 numbers. Because in 2008, for the third year in a row, the FSU starting quarterback threw exactly 318 attempts. Only CP7 threw 13 picks, which was the most thrown during that three year period.
Just sayin. DW “could have been a contenda.” I hope he does well.
I bleed Garnet and piss Gold.
Well
That may be true, but anecdotal evidence indicates that his high completion percentage was inflated due to completing a 3rd down attempt 2 yards short of the 1st down marker.
Would be interesting to see how many of the following he had:
3rd and 10 = 5-7 yard completion
3rd and 7 = 3-5 yard completion
3rd and 5 = 2-3 yard completion
It seemed like he was just always coming up short when it mattered.
I set you up
and you failed….are you still self-banned?
If so, that must have been a lot of restraint. I figured you would have just HAD to stick it in there.
So many deflections.
Keep them coming. I bet it’s going to get harder and harder.

A little late to the party, but TWSS
I bet it’s going to get harder and harder.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
Of course it would have mattered if Drew repeated his 2007 numbers
Drew would have exhausted his eligibility therefore diminished the overall upside of the position with no substantial on-field payoff at the end. Christian doesn’t have the year he had last year without his baptism by fire in ‘08. I have little interest in what DW ’could’ve’ done because if a 5th year senior cannot clearly beatout a RS sophmore in fall camp then you start the younger kid to maximize the upside of the position and keep your program progressing. It’s not really complicated, Drew got plenty of chances

I'm torn between my appreciation for DW and my utter hatred of everything Tampa Bay Storm.
I don’t want to root against him, as I would love to see him succeed as much as possible. It just sucks that he’s on the most annoying team in the Arena league, and the bitter rival of my favorite team in said league.
Annoying?
MiNDSET? SWAG-ER-ISM!!!

"Trick is right."
"Wherever you are, Trick, you are wise, indeed."
There might be a better word.
But I’ve always equated the Storm and their fanbase to the Gators. A lot of talk from a lot of bandwagon fans for a team that always acted like it was God’s gift to sport.

Weatherford was an OK QB
He didn’t exactly have a lot to work with. Jimbo has commented about the lack of skill at the skill positions when he arrived. Also the O-line wasn’t so great in some of the DW years— it seemed like one of our pass plays was actually called ‘avoid the sack’.
Not to mention Daryl Dickey and Jeff Bowden were his initial teachers
Perhaps he was permanently damaged
Eh, you guys are a bunch of haters. ;-)
Look how he improved under Fisher. Like I said before, his lack of judgment was his major crux. And judgment was taught to him under Coach Fisher. THREE interceptions! Even if he was “playing it safe,” he played it well. Good completion percentage, good yardage. We didn’t have the tools in place for a solid offense like we do now (see previous O-line comments) and there was the “dueling QB” thing with the X-man. (Whatever happened to Lee, anyway?) I think that, with the departure of Xavier (if that would have happened anyway), you would have seen a lot less pressure on DW, and probably a better performance.
I bleed Garnet and piss Gold.
ACC Champions
Let us not forget our last ACC Championship came with Drew Weathford at QB. A Classic Seminole Victory!
