Defensive Lineman Lonnie Gosha Commits to Florida State
Lonnia Gosha , a 6'1 1/2" 270 lb defensive lineman from Lake Butler Union County high has committed to Florida State, multiple internet sources reported yesterday. There's not a lot of free film available on Gosha, but there is some available at this link. Here's what we do know about Gosha. He has good size at 6'2 1/2" and 270 lbs. He can play either defensive end or defensive tackle. He's very athletic. He had scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Duke. The first 3 are obviously excellent programs, and the Duke offers probably tells you he can read pretty well. According to multiple reports, Gosha cited FSU's coaches relentless pursuit of him as the top factor in his commitment.
This is the 12th commitment for the 2011 class, joining DT Nile Lawrence-Stample, DB Keelin Smith, DB Lamarcus Brutus, OL Trey Pettis, S Karlos Williams, DB Cortez Davis, OL Sterling Lovelady, RB Eric Beverly, DB Tyler Hunter, DT Derrick Mitchell, and LB Terrance Smith.
Gosha fits nicely with FSU's commitment to getting bigger. FSU projects to have 7 or 8 300 lb defensive linemen in 2011, as well as 3 or 4 defensive linemen over 270 lbs. Fisher is unquestionably following the Saban model of building the defense from the inside out. That starts with the defensive line, then the linebackers, then the secondary. And in that order because games are won along the line of scrimmage.

Bud, go to sleep man. I just logged on to find the film link.
Anyways, this may seem like a weird question, but your writeup above says that he committed to FSU because of his relationship with the coaches, but he’s also been quoted as saying
“Florida State is the closest school to me and I want my family to be able to see me play all the time, so that is the main reason for my decision,”
I know it’s weird and nitpicky, but with the “80%” comment and a visit to Bama on the horizon, you can’t help but think he’s one to keep an eye on.

eh, most thought as soon as we offered he was ours
it was 12 days after he got his offer in the mail
365 days, until I change my ways.
Just about everyone is a soft commitment these days
Karlos and Lovelady are the only 2 that I am 100% on coming to FSU.
Speak softly, and carry a big Spear
I'm glad Nile is a Nole...for some reason, he's the one I think makes the biggest impact at FSU
Everyone’s gonna know who he is very, very soon

Spetman, looking back on his video, I believe you got a strong point
Although he can use is unbelievable power to bulldoze an inside pile, push back two, and sometimes three blockers at a time, he also plays with his head. He’s got good technique and patience, can expertly use his hands to hold a blocker at bay while the play comes to him, then tosses them like a rag doll when he’s ready to pounce on the unsuspecting ball carrier. Niles has an excellent nose for the ball, and as a stout 300 pounder, is suprising quick to the ball, has good range and bends ball handlers in half when he tackles them. What a monster!

He seems to line up as a LB
a lot instead of on the line later in the video

how confident are we that he is 270 -
both the ‘for profit’ sites have him around 245
(not that they would know..but…)
he's telling people he is 262 or 270
The databases are notoriously slow.

Just ask Nile's sister.
His mom is a nutritionist and his sister was active on the board when he commited. I’m sure they could let us know within a couple…
Rivals watch list
If you glance through the Rivals watch list, about 40 guys list both FSU and uf. There are still about 35 who list only uf, and only about 15 who list only FSU, but I do like to see that players considered among the best are starting to put us back on their lists. I know the player ratings aren’t always accurate, but players who are highly regarded are starting to regard us highly again. I like that.
Nile Lawrence-Stample link
goes to the Derrick Mitchell announcement. Saying something because I’ve seen that a few times over the last few days, I think.

I can't say enough how much I love this
I’m just so scarred after the last few years. Every year, I’d get excited, thinking things were getting better, and then…..not. Please, lord, let it be real this time.

Plus One
Our great recruiting classes in the “Aughts” have been chimera – allegedly great classes with next to no return on the field. I have higher hopes now than I have had in the last five years. _Please_let_it_be_real!_

It's not just the recruiting, though
Some of that lack of development is on the coaching.
Caliber?
We got 12 guys but what are the caliber of these athletes? 3 star? 4 star? 5 star?!?!
Noles are tearing it up but we have to get James Wilder II. The kid is going to be a man-child, and with the Gaytors loaded at DE for the next 4 years going after him is a GOLDEN opportunity.
Don't get your hopes up on Wilder
and he is not essential to our success
It's a beautiful day in Tallahassee
Firstly, we are recruiting him as a RB
which happens to be the position he prefers to play.
Secondly, he is considered a LB on defense.
Thirdly, he is a gator lock.
Wilder is a Gator
and I would much rather steal Jerningan from the Gators than Wilder.

Don't see us getting Jernigan if we just added a likely 3rd DT in Gosha already.

If Jernigan wanted to come to FSU
then we would make room….guaranteed.

He is considered a LB/DE
I doubt we are legitimately recruiting him as primarily a RB
365 days, until I change my ways.
Wilder
I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere that he said he loved the fact that FSU is considering him as an RB, over UF’s intentions to have him at LB. However, I agree that he’s not make or break and that he’s solid UF lean.

We're not getting Wilder Jr.
Thank the last half decade for that. Also, he’s not playing DE.

How many kids do you think we will end up taking?
And how might those remaining spots be used by position? QB, OL, DE….
Here's what Bud said yesterday about this recruiting cycle.
My current projection is
QB
RB
TE
WR
5 OL
5 DL (2 DT 2 DE 1 flex)
3 LB (Bradham is way gone)
5 DB
For a total of 22 and we cut like 9 scholarship guys who don’t have the talent to be at FSU.

We're at 12
The next kid we take = 1 cut. And so on…

Noleinsider states Lonnie Gosha has decommitted from FSU
by CSI Nole on Apr 1, 2010 4:26 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Saw this on my Twitter feed:
THARINGER: "Gosha to TR on why he decommitted: “Nothing really changed with FSU, it’s just too early.” Check the TR boards for more on Gosha."
