It isn't good enough for me to simply rec this post, I must add a comment to my total by letting you know that I am one of the ones who rec'd this post.
And since it took me three tries to get the grammar correct on the above statement, I added THREE comments to my total.

LMAO! Just goes to show you don’t have to be big to be pathetic.
Matt, i’m honestly fighting back tears in class trying not to be disruptive, i just noticed the" They hatin" part. I might have to leave early today. This might be the funniest thing i’ve ever seen.
Wait a minute, now that i’ve stopped laughing, nothing’s funny anymore. Crap, i think you’ve completely desensitized me to humor.

Oh it will happen when you least expect it.
But if you’d seen the quality of the first three comments I typed and deleted, you’d know that I’m not all that concerned about the above error.

Can someone explain to me what makes
a player more suited for strong side vs weak side linebacker? I understand what a linebacker is (obviously) but having trouble getting why it makes a difference which side that linebacker plays and why the skill set would be different..
really depends on the front and the alignment.
This would make for a great question in an upcoming podcast!
Major differences would include lateral quickness v. the ability to take on and shed larger blockers.
I would have thought that lateral movement would be important for
any LB, reacting to whether he needs to support the defensive front on the run or drop back to cover the middle in a pass play.
by ladyjustice on Mar 10, 2010 10:09 AM EST up reply actions
weak side = short sid of the field = less ground to cover left to right.
more about straight line speed.
Yeah, right!
Not much
Weakside is usually employed as a coverage linebacker. One of his job’s is to cover backs coming out of the backfield, passes to the flats, and some short stuff underneath. He also has to be quick enough to provide backside help on runs. He’s not shedding blocks like the strongside so he is usually smaller.
Striker: "Surely you can't be serious!" Rumack: "I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
Strongside
is your bigger more physical linebacker. Lined up on the TE side his job is to make sure he catches nothing and if he does he is punished. He also has to shed blocks from TE’s, pulling O-lineman, and lead rb’s. Containing the rb and being employed in blitzes are also on his list of duties. He spend less time on the field then the other lb’s.
Striker: "Surely you can't be serious!" Rumack: "I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
I think of weak side as the non-tight end side.
by Bud Elliott on Mar 10, 2010 11:32 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah, I understand what the diff is
between strong and weak sides. In reading the interview with dekoda, it started me wondering why the skill set should not be the same. Thanks for the answers.
by ladyjustice on Mar 10, 2010 11:41 AM EST up reply actions
yeah its usually by formation
not by how much field on each side

Miami sucks and so does the school
I do not understand what draws people to play there. It is very expensive down there, fewer coeds to attack (Roethisberger stile), and the mystique is gone. It seems silly to me for most of these kids going to a school that they do not fit in with any of the “real” students that go there. Must be the swagger, that I still do not know what that means.

by Randall W. Spetman on Mar 13, 2010 2:01 PM EST up reply actions
It's both.
It’s like football. Bunch of good teams (20-50 range) but only a few better than that.
If we had one team that went 15-1 in conference and then a bunch in the 20-50 range, people would think of the ACC like they do the Big XII this year. Imo.
"Trick is right."
"Wherever you are, Trick, you are wise, indeed."
I do believe we are the deepest.
Our bottom 5 teams would be middle of the pack everywhere else, a few likely being top half in almost every other conference.
NC State won at Marquette. We beat Marquette on a semi-home game. Marquette went 13-8 in the Big East and beat Villanova, UConn, Georgetown and Louisville. NC State also only lost to uf because of a prayer of a buzzerbeater to a 4th place SEC team.
UNC won at Michigan State and beat Ohio State and only lost by 2 at Kentucky.
Miami beat South Carolina, who only went 6-11 in conference but beat Vanderbilt, uf and Tennessee. They also beat Minnesota who beat Butler, Ohio State, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan State.
BC beat South Carolina, too. See above. Although, I don’t expect they’d fare as well as the 4 teams above them. That South Carolina win was pretty much their only half decent ooc win.
Virginia. Same as BC. Beat Cincinnati and UAB. Two above average teams. But didn’t do much else.

Here is a go.
Anyone, feel free to point out any errors.
I believe we still have a scholarship reduction next year. I think it’s just 1. Since we’re talking about the 2011 class, you look at how many current players will still be here in 2011. I’m thinking Fortson and Bradham leave early next year and Easterling goes pro in baseball.
I get:
3 QB’s – Manuel, Secord, Trickett
5 RB’s – Thomas, Jones, Smiley, Thompson, Pryor
11 WR’s – Gehres, Haulstead, Reed, Smith, Wade, Green, Shaw, Johnson, Dent, Haggins, Alexander(?)
4 TE’s – Little, Reliford, Tye, Sessions
11 OL – Datko, Faircloth, Ganguzza, Greenlee, Orelus, Sanders, Sanderson, Snider, Spurlock, Stork, Foose
33 Subtotal
13 DL – McDaniel, McCray, McAllister, Cummings, McCloud, Hicks, Jackson, Jenkins, Stevens, Dawkins, Werner, Erving, Jacobs
7 LB’s – Williams, Carr, Luc, Jones, Terrell, Smith, Onwukaife
13 DB’s – Reid, Harley, Moody, Parks, Rhodes, Allen, Bright, Commack(?), Demps, Abram, Brooks, Harris, Joyner
2 P/K’s – Hopkins, Powell
35 Subtotal
68 Total
That leaves 17 scholarships (14 if the 3 players I excluded all come back) but only 16 (13) after the scholarship reduction. I think it’s fair to assume 5 scholarships open up due to some sort of attrition (we’ve lost 4 already in Prior, Davis, Harris, Gresham and haven’t even started spring practices). That’d put us at 21 (18).
I could definitely see several more guys asked to leave and that attrition number reaching 10ish, but it’s probably best to project it on the conservative side. We’ve already received 10 commitments and I think we need 3 more OL (we lose in 2011), 2 DL (one apiece), 3 LB, a QB and an RB. That’s 20 right there. I think we look good for Steward, Drew, C-D, an OL (unnamed, but FSUn mentioned it a week ago) and Marshall. No inside info on any of that.

Firefox updates
Firefox has a new feature called personas that basically is a mini version of the themes you can download. If you go to the sports section of the personas there is a good FSU persona on page 114
awesome thanks
real quick though, is there a way to adjust other settings. I cant see my tabs and other stuff now.
yea, cool idea but doens't work
Unless there is a way to make the tabs and stuff a different color.

FSU the 9 seed...playing Gonzaga
[sinking feeling in stomach]
by Randall W. Spetman on Mar 14, 2010 6:22 PM EDT up reply actions
vs Gonzaga, then vs Syracuse
then a potential Elite 8 rematch against UF!
Zags are overrated (but we are too). Syracuse is the most vulnerable 1 seed IMO. We can get through Gonzaga, but I won’t put $ on it.
Question for those in the know re: FSU baseball....
is Meat the next head coach for FSU baseball?
If it were up to me, no.
It, however, is not up to me. It’s up to Randy (paging, Randy) and he may hire Meat. I have the exact same sentiments as RaysnNoles. I am very much afraid we keep it in-family/in-house, like we do EVERYTHING at FSU. Wonder why we we are ranked outside the top 100 in US News & World Report and Miami and UF are both top 50? Need quit wondering.

Has anyone else been experiencing really slow loading of the home page recently?
For the last few days it is taking much longer to load the front page than it used to. The fanshots and fanpost tabs still open quickly, but the home page has really gotten slow.
Anyone else noticed this?
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
Is it just me, or does it seem Philly is cheating on me with Frank lately?
I have noticed she avoids being on the site at the same time as me.
You have an email from Jerry Springer who would like the 3 of us to appear on his show at the same time.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
Honest question for the two of you
Are you related? Or do your names just start with D? Because then technically I am a DNole, too. ;-) Wouldn’t that be a Springer-ish twist?

Jury questionnaires suck.
Also sucky: getting jury duty in your old county after moving into the city. I can’t get out of it because I haven’t legally changed my address. sigh

That's lame.
I got a jury duty notice for Lee County, FL. That’s where I registered my vehicle and renewed my driver’s license. I was really living in Tallahassee, though. I simply checked the “I no longer live in Lee County” box on the postcard thing and mailed it back in. Problem solved.

too late
My mom put the fear of God in me, saying that if I pull the “I don’t live here” card, they will go after me to change my address, which is a waste of time since my lease is up in August.
2010 ~ The Year of the Spear
Might wanna change the ol' address anyways.
A friend of mine got a ticket because he had moved and hadn’t changed his. Chances are that your cop (should you encounter one) probably won’t be such a dick, but it helps either way.
by Randall W. Spetman on Mar 18, 2010 12:13 AM EDT up reply actions
I got a ticket for that too
It was completely my fault though for saying I no longer lived there. It’s my parents house and since I move all the time I never bothered to change my “permanent” address.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who did this at one point.
They still get some of my mail.
by Randall W. Spetman on Mar 20, 2010 1:26 AM EDT up reply actions
Luckily for me
when my parents moved, and by default so did my permanent address, I didn’t get pulled over so I only had to get a new license when I renewed before my 22nd. I could have gotten it sooner, as it is supposed to be updated within 10 days and my parents had moved in late August, but I was too lazy.

after a night of working out and shooting hoops at the gym on campus at my local state school
i’ve come to a startling realization:
19 year old girls are hot
i mean dangerously hot..
its b/c theyre not off limits that makes them even more dangerous
the threat of jail keeps the others ‘safe’
the problem with 18 and 19 year olds
is you can’t tell them apart from the 17 year old that claims she is 19. that’s why my policy is she has to be old enough to drink.
You're the cool-a$$ exception to the rule.
Seriously Philly, i don’t think you realize the awesome power that is a woman who likes Football.
The only problem is that I can't find a *guy* who likes football.
I once yelled at a guy for trying to make out with me while I was watching a game.

I dont either.
This may earn you a nomination for “Most appealing female football fan/blogger”; )
In all seriousness, if you’re ever in Charlotte, Can you host a clinic titled: How to discuss sports w/ your man or something like that? I’ll gladly send my honey to you for instruction:)
I dated this girl in college, who was a huge Tennessee fan
One day, FSU had the night game, and I was playing intramural football that afternoon. Tenn had the 230 game against Alabama, and she was in my bedroom watching it on my big TV (drinking beer…she was the BEST).
Long story short, I busted my noodle open in the game, and before going to the Emergency Room, I stopped by my house to get my wallet, I walked into my room, and she’s on the edge of the bed, staring at the TV in a trance…meanwhile I’m covered in blood, holding a TShirt to a 3 inch gash in my forehead. I ask her “Have you seen my wallet?” and she replied “yeah, its in my car”. I say "OK, who’s winning, and she looked right at me and said “*#@ing Bama…” and shook her head. I say to her, “OK, I busted my head open, and I gotta go get it sewn up”. She says “Ok, and goes back to her game”
I get a call 4 hours later (still at the ER) from her saying “Where the HELL are you? It’s been four hours!!!”. I calmly reply “Casey…dear. Do you not remember me coming in all bloodied up with a huge gash in my head? I told you I had to go get it sewn up.”
She was so engrossed in the UT game that she didn’t remember exactly what had happened. She remembered me coming in, but she didn’t remember me getting hurt, or looking for my wallet.
True story. Even though she was a UT fan, I loved that girl. Then she dumped me for a wannabe cowboy with a 1.2 GPA.
Oh well.

Oh, you mean the kind of guy who gets his "western wear"

Nothin wrong w/ being country, pretending to be anything you’re not is another story.
Bummer, about her crappy taste in guys and teams. However, this is the kind of woman that makes my world go round. Or, would, if i had one like that. Oh well, i love my woman, she gave me the most precious gift in the world(my daughter)
The funniest thing? Guess where he was from?

I have myself a keeper
We go to the FSU games together, and she actually knows what’s going on. We went to a sports bar the other day to watch FSU in the ACC tourney and shared a pitcher of beer and wings with my bro. Yeah, she’s a keeper :-)

I've taught mine about FSU basketball
Anytime I talk about Singleton she says turnovers, bad shooter, and good at defense.
Mine doesn't understand why I yell at the TV when FSU is playing
“I thought you liked them!!!!” she says.
She’s not a sports fan, but God bless that ass, she’s hot.
by Randall W. Spetman on Mar 21, 2010 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah same I get looks
and comments like, “you know they can’t hear you” so thats when I tell her to make me a sandwich
no she's cool with it
its not like she actually makes the sandwich, usually she will just start rooting for the other team as payback.
My parents could never figure out why I yell at the TV, either.
Or why I sing the war chant and do the chop in the living room.
2010 ~ The Year of the Spear
I've been blessed with awesome women in my life
I had a friend, who later ended up being my roommate, who taugh her then boyfriend about football.
My ex/roommate/best friend let me teach her about football and then she went with to hockey games and ended up getting into it as much as I am. She now teaches her current boyfriend about football cause he doesn’t know shiz about it.
Her big sis (in a music frat no less; yes it’s a frat cause it is so old) is the kind of girl who will propose the idea of going to BW3 to watch the game, drink beer, and eat wings.

I'll help Philly with the
clinic if you’d like. The more you understand something, the more likely you are to like it. My husband and I love to watch college FB together.
She doesn't get it.
She’s one of those artsy fartsy reader types. She’d rather watch the history channel, or read about King Arthur or soemthing like that. She’s a nerd.
But as I said before, god bless that ass. She’s a hottie

And I studied history, so I love History channel.

D-line Question
How does practicing against our zone-blocking offensive line affect our d-line? Does this help, hurt, or neither.
neither IMO
From the d-line’s perspective there isn’t much difference. You are still trying to engage and get past the o-lineman without getting pushed out of the play.

If anyone wants to see what good basketball looks like
tune into ESPN2 at 9:30 EST tonight. My kid is in the pep band currently playing for the Lady Dawgs. I saw their first round live on Saturday night vs Tulane in Tempe, and could not believe the skill and discipline and technical competence these ladies have.
This is what basketball looked like in the 50’s, folks, except UGA has a little point guard (Ashley Houts) that has to be seen live to be believed. I was never as fast as she is on the court in my best day, and I ran track. In fact, I can’t remember any guys on our teams as quick as she is.
Times have indeed changed.

not really, no. she's just really good.
kid’s instrument depends on the situation— brass (mellophone) for bball band, bass clarinet for symphonic, clarinet for marching band, guitar in jazz band and his rock band.

for all the fundamentals of womens bball
it is just too slow and boring, and we all know that UCONN is gonna win the championship game by 30 so its kinda anticlimactic

2010 ~ The Year of the Spear
Very important question:
Anyone know a good way to open a beer bottle when there’s no opener handy?
2010 ~ The Year of the Spear
Use keys. Hold the key sideways and with the teeth of the key, go around and push up the cap at the perforations with the key until you lift enough of the little perf's (perf's-not perv's) enough to lift the cap.
Try to use thick keys and preferably keys that are not important, such as car or house keys. But if you do it right, you should not damage the key.
I learned this little trick on how to open beer bottles back in the Boy Scouts.
You were very lucky I was here for you Philly. Suck on that Matt.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
Victory is mine.
I actually used a rubber band to loosen it up, then pried the edges up with a knife.
There were probably a lot of strange sounds coming from the apartment, but, oddly enough, no cursing.
2010 ~ The Year of the Spear
Also, Matt doesn't talk to me anymore.
And I believe he doesn’t drink, either.
2010 ~ The Year of the Spear
A nutcracker will work but
pliers work better…almost as well as a bottle opener. Most effective of all, however is to squeeze it between your breasts. Works every time.
I actually left my bottle opener at my parents' house
I’ll have it this weekend.
2010 ~ The Year of the Spear
You can also hold the beer firmly in one hand at the base
And use a hard object to lop the neck off. It wastes beer, and it’s dangerous, and you’ll probably get glass in your beer, but it’s completely badass.
by Randall W. Spetman on Mar 24, 2010 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions
puth the teeth of the cap against the edge of a wooden table or 2x4 laid across something.
let the teeth dig into it (obviously something you don’t care about messing up)
Knock the bottle on the cap with your palm downward hard.
cap off. bottle full
Yeah, right!
Nothing new to say - just practicing the cool block quotes I've never used before...
Do I just copy/paste in between the thingies?
Knock the bottle on the cap with your palm downward hard.
Or at the bottom of the page certain Mid's like RaysnNoles etc, have a little envelope next to their names, just click it.
