Florida State To Unveil New All-White Uniforms Against Oklahoma? Photos Say Yes
![]() |
Rumors circled yesterday that Florida State would be wearing new uniforms this season to mark a new era in Seminole football:
Apparently Shawn Powell was interviewed recently and mentioned that Jimbo took the team to the equipment room after the spring game to show them new uniforms. Uniforms that they are going to wear in Norman are all white with white helmets & facemask with garnet, black & gold spears. Apparently all the players loved them. Fisher also said the team won't be wearing the same uniform more then twice. He also mentioned a black helmet, white jersey & black pant combo.-- PA Nole
I'll bet Florida State wears the Garnet and Gold more than twice, but photos have now surfaced of an all-white combination, complete with a white helmet (right). The rumors could be true.
There are 4 photos in all and you can view them after the jump. What do you think?

I kinda dig the all white look
But not the white helmet, I say stick to the gold ones.
Team Gold!
Yeah
We WERE voted as the best helmet in a recent ESPN poll (last year? Year before?). I’m uncertain about the all-white helmet…
That would apply for all the schools though

If it WEREN'T shady, FSU would of still won it...
I knock FSU when it is deserved….but FSU’s helmets are the best and I don’t think it is close.
yep, everytime someone voted for another team, it also voted for FSU
365 days, until I change my ways.
Typical Florida tactics...
Where the hell did this poll come from, anyways?

It was supposed to be legit
But they left open some back doors that enabled a few choice FSU CS students to set it up so that every couple of seconds or so FSU would get a vote and anytime someone voted for another school they were also voting for FSU canceling their vote out. ESPN made a big deal about it and brought FSU a trophy for having the best helmet in NCAA.

Man I don't know why people are hating on the white helmet
Yes, the gold helmets are a staple and they’re awesome, but the all white and all black looks as a changeup will be sweet. Recruits are going to love this.
>>---l>
Exactly.
People are acting like we are permanently abandoning the G&G. The players like it, recruits like it, it generates extra revenue for the program, and they do look pretty sweet.

We did that
Back in the early/mid 80s. Most people hated it. (I was young, and kinda liked it.)
They showed it in a "Garnet and Gold rewind" in the stadium
I’ve been looking for pictures and video ever since, no luck. Anyone know what game it was or even just what year it was?
I’m all about the gold out, I think it’d be funny. Baseball does it every weekend!
I still like the traditional uniforms...
…but I agree the recruits will like them. They’re at an age where they don’t remember the glory of the Garnet and Gold. If anything, they just associate it to us getting beat up for the past several years…
Not hating, I just think it looks a little off
Maybe if the spear was garnet and gold instead of garnet and white or something. Oh well, I’ll get used to it lol.
I agree
We need some gold in the spear. Garnet and Gold spear. This one is a little too sterile.
I don't care for it much.
I think it looks like something you’d buy your five-year-old. That, or we’re apparently being sponsored by Apple.
The black one isn’t so bad, but I thought the garnet Nike Pro Combat looked better with the black helmet.

School uniforms, dress codes, etc. We are a vain people, it would seem.
I don’t know if this qualifies to affect in the same capacities or not… but just have to hope this doesn’t influence our players in the direction of sleeping with their professors.

Not sure about the all-white look, including a white helmet
But I understand the idea of trying to start a new chapter in the program, from the uniforms on up. Maybe this is what we need to break our misfortunes whenever we try “blackout” or “whiteout” themed games. Just a complete turnover of everything.

Ah ha!
We can thank the Pacific whatchamacallit (the sports psychology people) for the new uniforms. They must have told Jimbo that diversely colored stimuli would positively affect the mentality of a significant portion of the team. Or that the changes would help build new synapses, improving their brain function or something.
but it was clearly the uniforms...
because when we wore garnet and gold we always w…w..ww.wait a minute. maybe it wasn’t the uniforms. maybe it was because we were bad at football?

Times may vary based on IQ, but it might take you anywhere from .002 to .004 extra seconds to figure out which team is FSU. Oh the horror.
FSU vs Maryland
I couldn’t disagree more. I was getting confused the entire game bc we looked like maryland, our play as well as jerseys. I don’t think asking to keep the garnet helmets is that much to ask. There is something to be said about a widely recognized look. The gold helmet and spear should be the look for every game. White jersey’s I’m okay with but DON’T TOUCH THE HELMET!!! We are diminishing our brand by pretending we are some no name school looking for a splash.

Kids who base a decision of where to play football on a uniform aren't bright.
If Fisher is serious about recruiting smarter kids, then recruiting by uniform shouldn’t be a big strategy.
by coonhound on Apr 21, 2010 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
IMO it's just utilizing every factor that goes into a decision
Kids obviously don’t base a decision on uniforms alone, but I do believe that they get excited over looking flashy. As for the brightness of our recruits, well, let’s just say I don’t really want to go there.
>>---l>
If a kid is going to go anywhere for this gimmick uniform thing they will go to oregon. I believe looking at the bigger picture we are much better off wearing a gold helmet for every game. There are different combos yes but just keep the helmet. How excited can the recruits players really get when we have lost every game but one when wearing these types of unis. If anything isn’t it starting to psychologically affect them in a negative way.
Take Doak Back!!!
I think if you look at the bigger picture, what uniforms we are wearing don't matter at all,
what matters is how we play.
I thought our traditional uniforms were flashy.
These look like Stanford away uniforms and Maryland home uniforms. Not exactly flashy uniforms or programs.
I remember when Jerry Glanville changed the uniforms of the Atlanta Falcons to all black back in the early 90s. It was clever then, but now it’s a hackneyed, tired strategy of generating excitement among a fanbase and players. At this point, both all-white and all-black leave me underwhelmed.
I love our traditional uniforms
And I think we’re going to wear them most of the time. Having a lot of alternates is cool for the players. It’s not like we’re doing an overhaul.

I’d be fine with some tinkering of the traditional garnet/gold and white/gold patterns, but honestly that white helmet and black helmet look terrible. As I said before, it’s a hackneyed attempt at being cool. Maybe this is the best our designers could do? Maybe there isn’t a new idea to be had? Either way, I’d take traditional over these all day long. I’m not opposed to a different uniform to appeal to an 18 year old’s ADHD, but these two uniforms suck. It says, “We hired a lazy Nike designer who couldn’t do anything better than make our uniforms all white or all black.”
The players like them
Cam Erving and Holmes were blowing up facebook talking about how cool the white ones are. It’s fine if you don’t like them—everybody is obviously entitled to their own opinion on uniforms. I like them, though.

There is absolutely no gold in that Nike monstrosity. NONE.. There is yellow, though.
I can’t believe we’re allowing this. We’re reaching out to former players and trying to capitlize on our great tradition.
Well, these unis just kick all that to the curb. This makes as much sense as Penn State wearing yellow helmets “because they want a fresh start, and darn it, the kids like it!”
Most of you all know I’m not a huge Bowden fan. And I’m fully aware that the gold helmets and the unis were the result of Bowden tring to reinvent the program and create energy, and Burt Reynolds using a Hollywood costume designed to come up with the coolest unis in CFB.
But those gold helmets have become an icon and have been part of our national image for decades. If we’re starting over, let’s just throw away Osceola and Renegade too, because Bowden started that tradition.
This is not an “old fan-young fan” issue. It’s about branding. I’m all about change when it makes marketing sense. But changing our helmets to multiple non-official colors is just supernaturally stupid. imho.

I am a true Seminole and have been since I was 8 years old. I enjoy the rivalry ribbing as much as the next mid thirty year old man, but I feel I MUST set this record straight on this particular post. This is actually a depiction of a Cherokee Warrior on the trail of tears. Many Cherokee and other Native Americans died in this “relocation”. It has nothing to do with Miami or Florida State for that matter, and it is a statue made from a painting depicting this horrible occurrence in our fine nations history. No offense meant to anybody, but being half Cherokee I felt the need to speak up.

and I’m not a huge fan of metallic colors. I’d love to see FSU do something similar to the cowboys white and blue (maybe a yellow and garnet).
Wow
Im not sure what to say. I like ’em! They are definitely a change in pace. I think Fisher is really embracing the respect the tradition and accomplishments of the past but its time to make new traditions and start new accomplishments.
Ughhh, really?!?
I hate the all-black, all-white nonsense. They look like crap. Why don’t we just wrap the guys in toilet paper and call it a white-out.
As for recruits loving them, I don’t care. No recruit is going to choose a school solely based on the fact that we have 30 different uniform varieties in our locker. If they do, maybe we don’t want that recruit anyway. Recruits also love the gange, should we go ahead and sanction that too? Maybe we should wear all green unis with a pot leaf sticker on the side of the helmet.
I get where Jimbo is going with this, but frankly I don’t agree with it. I’m all about changing the culture. However, there are certain limits. Are we going to move FSU out of Tallahassee next? That would certainly qualify as a culture change.

You have to really try and put yourself into the mind of a kid, we as adults like things such as better Jobs with better pay and great benefits. If you have interviewed with 5 companies and all of them are great but one has an extra perk of child care on sight or a car allowance that is probably going to mean a ton to you. Well for us every kid we recruit is being recruited by the best schools in the country who all have hot women and great history, what can we show them that other schools don’t have? This extra perk might mean the difference and you know what that’s ok with me.
Diagree
Alabama seems to being getting great recruits without changing their iconic helmets. What about the thought of kids growing up watching a winner and seeing the garnet helmets with he gold spear and dreaming of wearing that helmet one day. Jimbo always talks about the big picture. This gimmick to me seems like he is not looking at the BIG picture. Yes, it helps with recruiting but thats all it does is help. It doesn’t not seal the deal on anything. The kids that are coming to fsu are coming to fsu for the coaches and the probability that they can get to the nfl. We should be looking at the big picture and recreate the fear in the spear. I bet if somebody did research on it we would have been the most recognized helmet throughout the 90s. How many times did we change our helmet through that period? We are becoming way to “oregon like.”
Take Doak Back!!!
Oregon gets lots of money for changing their unis

I never said it was the biggest thing I said it could be an extra perk. What im saying is alot of schools have things we have to offer and if we cant accept that as fans were kidding ourselves. Also please FSU of the 90’s that was a great area but we are not that same team or group of players. FSU of the 90’s is honestly something that isnt even reasonable to expect anymore.
I don’t expect the 90s but I do expect someone at FSU to say the helmets stay. Do what you want with color combination but a line needs to be drawn. Do anything possible to get an extra dollar isn’t always the best thing either. maybe in the near future but not looking at the big picture.Everything we do creates an image.
PadraiTheSeminole..you mine as well change your TN pic because we are just going to continue to diminish that look.
Just frustrating because I take pride in our football team as everyone else on here. And all of the pride is in our colors and jerseys. When I turn on the game I want to recognize my team and take pride in them. How do you defend a team that won’t stand up for anything.

I dunno
I expect 10 wins every year (not this year, and yeah I know it’s easier to get 10 wins these days because we play more games). I don’t expect Top 5 every year, but to be a perennial Top 10 program.
We should be able to get to the point where we challenge for the ACC every year. We should hold our own against uf. We should hold our own in bowl games. Preferably win a NC once a decade (sometimes twice, por favor?). Do these things, and I think we’ll have a lot of the 90s mystique back. We’ll definitely make more money.
Agree with that for sure, I would love to see all of that happen. Also my initial post was about responding to people saying how kids who go crazy over uniforms are idiots or will end up in jail. I was just trying to give a look into a kids point of view and also an adults, we care about diffrent things and thats ok were supposed to. Every extra perk we can get out of a job we take it, for kids if its a Jersey i understand that

When you bring in a Jacksonville State we blow them out by 50 and send them home. Then we bring in USF, kick their ass for 4qrts give them half a mill and say have a nice day.

Agreed but overreacting......
White should be away at all times….no more whiteouts at home. If anything the helmet should be Garnet with a Gold Spear on the white uni’s. As I stated above, we don’t have to like them….if it brings in more recruits and gets the team fired up, so be it. Blackouts at home are awesome…we just need to win in them instead of being “conquered” in them as we did in the “lost decade”. All garnet unis with Gold helmets are a fav. We’re not changing tradition, we are just spicing things up.

Nah, i was referencing the real whiteout
when tobaccofree.com was giving out the white shirts. I think your referenced the unofficial “blackout” later in the season.
I didn't like the whiteout...
This is my opinion, and it’s worth what you paid for it….
The whiteout was cool when Penn State did it— wearing away unis at a home game and getting the whole crowd to do the same to show unity, spirit, and support, and to help their team beat (I think it was) OSU. PSU were underdogs, and knew it, and tried to rally support for the team. And it worked. Unity, spirit, and a cool idea linked to a weather phenomenon that actually occurs in that area… That’s the beauty of college football… and it made a new tradition, for Penn State. Good for them.
What followed was a bunch of “me too” ideas… most of which were not cool… Many of which were flat out stupid.
For example, a few years later, in 90+ degree weather, in what, September? in Florida, where there has never been a whiteout, FSU tries a “whiteout” against a team that they should beat, and we lose. It’s not cool. It’s a lame copycat of what was supposed to a special thing for Penn State. Seminole fans are hot, exhausted, and look down at their shirts wondering— why the heck am I wearing white?
To me, it’s cool to make your own traditions— like throwing a fricking flaming spear from a bareback horserider into the ground at the beginning of the game!… or doing a war chant… or wearing a helmet with a spear on it…. win or lose, you bring your tradition to the game— Auburn flies an eagle, yet they’re tigers…. still it’s their tradition, and I respect that…
Would it be cool if Maryland rents a horse and lights a spear on fire and plants it in their field before a game? No, it would be stupid— they’re angry northern turtles. What if Penn State has a hurricane warning, with hurricane warning flags? Again, stupid.
I don’t care if we switch up the unis here and there. I don’t really get it, but I’m not a fashion guy… Notice that the models are posed in front of Garnet and Gold unis enshrined in lockers? But, to me, copying another school’s tradition is lame, and that’s what I think of the whiteout.
Wouldn't they be hot no matter what color they were wearing?

and they'd be cooler wearing white than garnet OR gold
cooler fans equals louder cheers, equals louder stadium, equals more wins, equals national championship. So by my logic we should whiteout every game
Whiteout + rain = wet t-shirts

You're so wise. You're like a miniature Buddha, covered in hair.
Good post.
But I liked our white out.
I was proud of the crowd that was able to show up when I had little expectation.
The team lost? Why because they were perhaps the most inconsistent team in college football. Not because they were wearing white.
Sure the Penn St started it, but the whiteout is a represenation of unity just like you said. It doesn’t matter who started it. I believe the people and students had fun promoting it and the players felt good when they stepped out on the field during it. But, after kickoff it doesnt matter what jersey you wear.(except for maybe black in 100degree weather)
So you don’t think the players focus any less the week leading up to the game because we are going to be wearing different jerseys?

No.
If there is a problem I think Jimbo would be the first to recognize it and deal with it. Its not like they are little kids out there.
All i know is student boosters had a meet and greet with the players before the USF game and maybe there were 2 comments about the actual game the thursday night before. Every player was talking about UF and how they are ready to go play them and beat them. You can argue they were saying it to hype up the students but surely didn’t sound that way from being there. They were beyond overlooking USF. Doesn’t seem like a team full of focused players to me. They are still students and attend class and hear all the hype. Would it affect an NFL team no but a college team yes. I don’t see how it couldn’t.
Take Doak Back!!!
How does this relate to the damn uniforms?
Also, your coach said “They were alot better than we thought they were” after the game. Do you think maybe some blame should fall on Bobby, since he obviously wasn’t prepared either?

I doubt a public event is representative of a team preparatory practices. I doubt many people were asking them about USF either. Since neither of us knows t his players, I guess we’ll just have to go on faith either way. It just seems to me that Jimbo is the kind of coach that covers all of his bases and that if he thought there was a problem with this then he would deal with it. So Im sorta trusting his coaching right now.

Uniforms as recruting tools
Changing uniforms to entice recruits is a bad idea in my opinion. Let things that matter (coaches, tradition, campus, etc) bring them to Tallahassee. The white unis look like Texas’ uniforms and the black ones look like a abomination created for the sole purpose of lining NIke’s pockets.
Our helmets were voted the best helmets in college football by ESPN last year.. why are we changing it! Even for one game!

I think incorporating some B&W is fine
I think G&G should remain the main colors, but black and white are both on the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s flag (the background consists of four stripes: white, black, garnet, gold). I’m good with including those colors into some of our uniforms and other stuff.
But, I do think we should whip out full-blown B or W unis on rare occasions.
Black is actually a more important color to them than red.

FSU is one of the most frugal institutions in DI (my opinion)
They are going to make money where they can and cut costs where they can.
Like no phones in the offices of professors? No printed Syllabuses? I’d say frugal is the right word.
Alabama's uniform is pretty classic
We’ve changed our significantly over time. I just don’t want to mess with the helmet.
Bama is the number one school in state same with Texas and USC. We don’t have that luxury we have to compete with two other big time programs in our own state and the entire rest of the country as well. Kids from those states grow up dreaming of playing for those schools automatic built in advantage.
It's nice to see FSU is so edgy...
going with all white and all black is really out there. This tells our opponents, “Watch out! We’re craaaazy, man! Look, we just painted our uniforms all white and all black even though our colors are something completely different! That’s nuts! We might hurt you we’re so insane!”
So yeah… good strategy. We’ll only be the 879th sports team to flip off our traditional colors and wear all black or all white.

Nike’s gonna screw with your uniforms unless you’re Alabama, Penn State, etc … so we should all be happy Nike didn’t f-up our unis like they have so many other schools with weird lines, different colored shoulder pads and so on. So, these alternate unis could have been a whole lot worse.
That said, I hate that they’re are changing the helmet. It should stay gold.
Oi.

this is the best post of the new year
IMO, the all black looks much better than the gold helmet paired with black uni’s, or the black helmet paired with faded garnet uni’s. The all white looks kind of sick. Whether we go garnet and gold, or all white, all black, white black, all garnet, or whatever, we still have sick uniform’s and what is most important is that we get that swag back. (pardon the now-cliche term) We need the swag and we need to play hard and win. When we do those things, these uniforms will be just as nasty and iconic as the old uniforms. Fact is we have been playing like babies for 7 years and it hasn’t exactly done wonders for the iconic status of any uniforms.

Also, I don’t give a crap about making the uni’s more appealing to a bunch of 17-18 year old recruits. I think hope most recruits don’t make a 4 year decision on whether or not we plan on making some new designs or changes to our uniforms, but if that is a criteria for their decision, screw them, let them go to Oregon.
With that rant out of the way, our uniforms don’t need a major overhaul such as this, but I am okay with a white-out for one home game a year (much better than a black-out), even though I think they look like crap, especially the helmet.

I see where everyone says the new jerseys bring in additional money but what about the many fans it turns off. I sure didn’t see a packed doak for the maryland game when we sported those awesome jerseys. Anyone who has followed FSU over the past couple years has seen the many many many losses we have had. Why can’t the marketing people at fsu just lay low for a while. I just don’t buy into the jersey’s bring in enough revenue to piss off a bunch of fans. Concentrate on the product on the field not the gimmicks. I feel like we are turning into having no principles. Where is the line drawn. Do not correlate UM & USF game attendance with uniforms
1. UM was opening night, Monday night, nationally televised, and our biggest home game of the season
2. USF was our biggest home OOC game, we just came back from beating BYU so there was still hope, and it was early in the season so fans could still commit to attending….and there were at least 20,000 USF fans in attendance.
There was a minimal spike in attendance from white out, but you can say that $$ was made as a result.

I'm not
He was saying that not many people came to see the Maryland game and trying to tie it to the uniforms to support his argument. I was pointing out a counter example.
FSU made plenty of money off the white out game by getting fans to go buy white FSU apparel. I know that I did, my fiends did, my parents did, and all the other people at the store when I was there did. That makes us money. Even if attendance stays even, the increase in sales of new clothes brings in more money than people just wearing what they always wear to the games.

However, don’t forget that while we may in fact be some of the most informed & rational supporters of FSU, we are still in fact fan(atic)s…which entitles us to have arguments based on nonesense issues like “EJ over Ponder”, or “We should crush Miami bc they suck”, or “lets runn the oopty-oop against Sanford”, or even a heated debate over uniform colors.

I like the all black. All white is okay, but I don’t like the white helmet very much. I’m all for the gold helmet with the white unis.

Even with the gold helmets I think they’re kind of bland without the tomahawk stickers. With them it becomes something special.

As a high school senior who’s going to fsu in the fall, I’m exicited about the alternate uniforms. The classic G&G will always be our colors but it doesn’t have quite the same meaning for kids like me who grew up following fsu during the lost decade. So I think the players now and future recruits will embrace the idea of some different uni’s every now and then

Every dollar in America is a vote, when you buy a coke you are voting for coke and against pepsi
This is not the same as voting for elected officials, but it is similar. Just like many Americans are voting against Toyota right now, I pass no judgement on Toyota, I have just always driven a pickup and don’t like the Tundra. During the lost decade my ‘vote’ was not to support Bobby or an institution that would not remove him. I did not become a booster (my freshman year was 01… yeah same as Rix’s and I did see him at a few parties, what a tool) after graduating college, this year will be my first year being a booster. All through the lost decade I continued to wear my FSU hat and shirts, put flags and decals on my truck, so I was in full support of the FSU team in THICK gator country. But I would not give them any straight cash to become a booster, so you, sir, have no right to tell me what ‘paying my dues’ means.

Has anyone here read the book “Blink”? It’s selling well right now. The book is a compelling argument for the evolution-ingrained quick-decision reflex / instinct all humans have, and on which they base not only split-second decisions, but longer term impressions of things. Football is a sport of split-second decisions, and many of them are entirely instinctual. Players are conditioned to hone those instincts and eliminate errors based upon repetition. Repetition of movements, sounds, and visual images such as color schemes. Home-garnet and Away-white, with unchanging helmets, produces a neuro-association in the minds of skill players that depend upon instantaneous recognition of team vs. opponent. The QB is the most obvious candidate for this. But when you keep mixing / matching new colors, as well as the helmet, I begin to wonder if we aren’t eroding that hard-won snap-judgment ability—whether by slowing down the recognition a hair, or by confusing it into lower accuracy. A week of practice isn’t enough to install those instincts. I’m not saying we keep losing in our blackout uniforms (and playing like slugs in the Md. game in the pro combat ones) solely because of this, but I would think that sports psychologists must have some opinion about it, at some point. I suppose if Jimbo Fisher isn’t worried, I shouldn’t be either.
But I still prefer the garnet and gold, and agree we should recruit by winning, not with gimmicks.

(Although the white helmets are hideous and should have been Garnet with a Gold spear or something) Like someone posted earlier….white and black is actually the other 2 colors other than garnet and gold on the Seminole flag. This isn’t about recruiting kids and Jimbo and the staff do not need uniforms to bring in recruits, this is about creating more excitement around the program and most importantly exciting the kids……it ISN’T about me, YOU and what you want to see on the field. Let them wear a different helmet once or twice a year and get over it!
In addition, just because it is a whiteout or blackout, you can still wear garnet or gold as I’m sure they will still let you inside Doak.

over 300 comments on my first FanShot. Sweet!
Here’s my take on a few things about this;
A) The changes being made are to generate money for a school that’s in need of it. To all you traditionalists out there, relax. It’s not permanent. Its like a fake tattoo, it’ll be gone after it’s applied once
2) My take on the “uniform won’t be worn more the twice” comment is Jimbo wants us to wear new, fresh uniforms. I don’t think that meant we’re going to wear the black twice, white twice plus G & G twice. At the end of the season he doesn’t want us wearing uni’s that are all beat up
D) An FSU great once said “You look good, you feel good. You feel good, you play good. You play good, they pay good” -Deion Sanders With that being said, the players love the fresh unis. This is their way of adding Swag to a program that has been lacking it since ’99.
That’s just my take on it. Take it or leave it

I don't see why the colors are excluded from the list.
why did we even have school colors if in 2010 some new fad hit the streets, every 6 months after that, that makes us want to become fashion models of “newness?”
why is it that garnet and gold isn’t selling? why don’t they fix the product, not make a new product?
I think the “Panhandlers” is not far off like this. An appropriate name at that.
by Mr. Seminole on Apr 22, 2010 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Again
The Seminole Tribe of Florida has four stripes in their flag: white, black, garnet (or close to it), gold.
I don’t think using black or white is that big of a deal – on occasion. Let’s keep G&G as our primary colors, but why not utilize the other Seminole colors? After all, we use the Seminole as our symbol. I think we can adjust a little, especially if we try to use the new schemes to honor the Tribe in some way (perhaps have a Heritage Weekend each year or something, and wear the black uniform then? Oh, there were the Black Seminoles, too…).
Let’s do something special with the extra unis. Why not?
Not for the school per se
But the Seminole allow us to use the name as our symbol. Black is on their flag. When I suggested something related to heritage, I meant something to promote the Seminole culture (didn’t FSU add a Seminole history course a few years ago?). I see nothing wrong with adding some colors used by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, but I’m also not suggesting we use it full-time. Simply as an alternative to use once a year or so. Garnet and Gold are still – and should be – the primary colors, and they are present in both alternate uniforms. Keep wearing your garnet; so will I. I don’t plan on buying a promotional black jersey, but I’d wear a black FSU shirt to a black-out game.
White
is a classic college football color. 95%+ of college football teams have white as a color. It might not be a school color, but its a big part of most uniforms.
Black can almost be considered white’s contemporary version as many teams are using black as a tertiary color, especially schools that already have a metallic. Basic color theory tells us because of their neutrality, white and black are easily combined with any color and therefor will have an impact on all school uniforms.
they do that in basketball with white.
white with garnet and gold trim is not altogether bad, its just a little weak. The change of uniforms is not helpful to the team. How many times did we win in black?
but our colors are garnet and gold. We have the best uniforms in the country. consistently voted as such. This is who we are. We are the garnet and gold Seminoles, not the black or white Seminoles.
I am open to white with the traditional helmet, but never black. But I still think white is weak, and that garnet and gold is smoking hot.
by Mr. Seminole on Apr 22, 2010 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree
About the white helmet. Ugh.
By the by, I saw the basketball team win some games wearing black, didn’t I?
for me, I would rather keep my colors than any of the traditions you listed.
Selling the soul of the school would be dropping Osceola, Renegade, tomahawks, the war cry, and changing to name of the team from Seminoles to Panhandlers
I actually hold my colors more sacrosanct than all of the traditions you listed as it was here long before the others.

I dunno
Florida State College used to wear purple and gold. In 1905 (after the football team was exported to uf), the Florida Female College chose crimson as its color. The administration combined the football team’s purple with the crimson to get garnet.
I suppose we did use G&G in two games before officially becoming the Seminoles, though…
How much to sell your soul?

Not that I am terribly troubled by what those people think or have to say, but I know if we drop a couple games in a row the complaining about how Jimbo is changing too many things will start up.

It seems like some of you guys think you have some sort of say in the matter. ;-) I’m pretty sure the marketing folks at FSU outweigh the opinions of people on a fanblog. I respect the opinions of everyone here, but y’all’s outrage is about as useful as tits on a bull, as my grandfather would say. Time to stop complaining about it and start focusing on the important things, ie not how they’ll look on the field vs. Oklahoma, but how they’ll play.
Personally I can tolerate the all-whites, but I too wish for some gold in the spear and garnet facemasks. The all-blacks, I absolutely love … I’ve been wishing for a while now that they’d run the all-black uni’s they’ve used in the past with black helmets. Black just looks sweet, in my opinion.
That is, however, my opinion, and there are enough who agree that will buy these jerseys, shirts, etc to make the extra uniforms worth it. To those who disagree, my only hope is that the team’s performance on the field will be enough to assuage your wounded fan pride at the alleged tarnishment of tradition, and that you will still pony up for tickets and/or booster memberships regardless of if they’re wearing Garnet and Gold, or Green and Gamboge.

Nothing Orwellian there!
I didn’t say you can’t post your opinions, just that everyone needs to understand the decision has been made and you can’t change it at this point. There are a few too many people on here posting as if Jimbo’s reading these and will change his mind based on how stringent and vitriolic the posts become. “Selling the team’s soul,” “embarassment,” “girls’ fashion pageant” … please.
So our opinion about the uniform is irrelevant because we have nothing to do with the decision, but our opinion on
how the football team performs IS relevant despite our lack of input into that process?
performance is objective
uniforms are subjective.
Yep, absolutely.

Why would we wear these uni's against OU?
I’m not a big fan of the all white’s but my first impression of them is that they make us look LIKE Oklahoma, so why would we roll them out against this team?

I love the G&G but come on…. That all white Uni isn’t that bad. I don’t even mind the helmet. Wish the spear was garnet and gold but its not that crazy. Kids today want diverse options…. How many times on a NCAA’10 do you end up playing against a kid who has Clemson or LSU in all purple, or the Cane’s wearing green….. Kids today like the opportunity to have different options available. Sure I think it would be better to see Gold helmets but I can guarantee you this….I wouldn’t have any difficulty spotting who my team is on the field it they were wearing these uni’s. If we wear playing for the NC then we’d be rocking the Garnet and gold home uni’s or the White and Gold Away uni’s. UF should always be Garnet and Garnet or white and garnet.

Dumb
I already ranted on this on Neon Deon’s fanshot. I especially have a problem with the “Disco” uniforms at home. What if you have a young family and you can only afford to take them to one game a year. Wouldn’t you want your kids to see the Seminoles in their real uniforms? Wouldn’t you be a little disappointed if the one time your kids got to see them they were wearing black, white, gold, or some other nonsense that Nike cooks up. Yes, look at Oregon’s hideous uniforms to see where this is going. Keep the classic look and build your brand by winning on the field.
Wait... your opinion of the game you attend will be influenced by the color of the jersey the team is wearing?
Like.. you will seriously be disappointed if they aren’t wearing a certain color pants?
The game will have it’s own character, that will have little to do with the uniforms. But my opinion of Oregon has been influenced by their ugly uniforms. I would just like us to be one of the classy, not one of the trendy.

I just am having a difficult time with how "only one uniform = classy".
Classic? I’ll accept.
But I don’t see how suddenly we’re a group of reprobates for having multiple jersey/pant combinations. Besides, we’ve already worn both outfits depicted in the above pictures. I can understand having problems with changing the helmet, but those two uniforms are otherwise exactly the same as what we’ve been wearing for years now.
Not reprobates
I just don’t think they are improvements. So, what you have is change for it’s own sake and I just don’t get it.

To me, except for the helmets there isn't a change.
We’re going to start wearing jerseys that we’ve had for several years a little more often than we have in the past. That’s the story I’m reading.
Besides, having these jerseys and only using them once every 4 years is like having a closet full of clothes and wearing the same shirt every day.
Not a Fan
The white looks OK, but I’d vote to stick to the FSU colors. The white could pass for Wisconsin from a distance. Just don’t like the black and it stirs bad memories of a Wake Forest game.
Whoa whoa whoa.
Owlguin? You mean… like an owl + a penguin?
So it’s a penguin with huge eyes that can fly? Might be the coolest thing ever.

We have no money and could use every dollar that we get.
I don’t mind these as a once in a while thing at all as long as they are paying us for it. Once we’ve reach the point where out scholarships are endowed (about 15-20 years unless we get a mega micco) then we can tell Nike thanks but no thanks.

OT- Love the pic of your dog. I rescued a Staffy 8yrs ago
he just had his 9th b-day on the 4th
Not to hijack
but since you brought it up, I found a gorgeous 8-10m old all white pit next to FSU. We’ve been trying to find him a home, we already have a sheperd and we are moving out of Talla for Seattle and can’t take him with us. If anyone in or near Talla, wants him, let me know! He is the nicest dog I’ve ever met.

Asking for some help...
I could’ve sworn we’ve worn all whites before (save the helmet, of course). Why do I keep seeing people say they don’t like the “new” whites and how our “new” whites look like this or that and how they prefer our traditional colors over our “new” whites? Or even our “new” blacks?
Am I losing my mind or are these not new at all?

We've worn white before
These may be tweaked, and they have the helmet. But we’ve definitely worn all white before.
Are they tweaked?
Aside from being on the Pro Combat material they look the same to me. I’m no expert though.

Right. Some people (not specifically Invictus13) are acting like white pants are some new thing.

kinda liking the idea of having multiple uniforms
aside from our Pro-Combat endeavor, which was obviously our worst ones (but i didnt “hate” them), we’ve never really had other options aside from garnet and gold.
not that G-squared is bad—but its good to try something different every now and then.
as for the white-white unis, kinda weird to look at a white helmet on any team, but at least we still keep our class and simplicity with our uniforms.
i LOVE this black-black uni. i thought we should have had a black helmet a while ago with the first black uni game.
i cant imagine what other combo Jimbo will bring out.

Dot Com, where you at?
I need you to tell me “the truth about the all-white uniform rumor”.

Guys, we can relax on the white helmets.
I’ve heard from a “very reliable source” that we will not be using white helmets. Period.
Just trust me on this one.
Bring back Peter Tom Willis— a true Nole!
Per HD on her blog
HD: “I checked with FSU’s sports information department, and there is no truth to the notion that the ‘Noles will be wearing a white helmet at Oklahoma. The equipment manager had one made up at the coaching staff’s request for recruits to see a wide variety of uniform options FSU can mix and match. They dressed up for mannequins in the locker room in different garb. One recruit took a picture and posted it on a website, leading to an instant rumor. Jimbo Fisher wants to stick with tradition (gold helmets), but he wouldn’t be opposed to using the Nike unis worn against Maryland last season on a rare occasion.”
New Unis
I actually love all these new combinations including these and the pro combats. all these old people needd to stop complaining how they dont like them cuz it messes up the tradition. they still look like florida state and unless ur old and blind u should be able to tell which team is fsu even when they wear these new combinations. not to mention the kids love them and it brings in recruits.
keep up the good work fsu equipment manager i love em. lookin forward to more new uniforms and combinations
