I think Spencer Hall said it best:
He could, in theory, fall to the Vikings. If this scenario actually happens, the combination of Favre and Tebow in the same place will create a media singularity so dense it will suck in half of downtown Minneapolis. Brett Favre will attempt to throw a ball into it to test its depth, and will instead hit a DB in stride for a game-breaking INT TD return.

I dont know...

I kind of like seeing McShay and his dismissive wanks to Kiper. Kiper is a blowhard because he (to his credit) had a dream to do workups on kids coming out of college. The thing is, he has no idea what he is talking about. Watching them argue is actually entertaining because I feel they actually disike each other, it isnt some contrived mess like Skip Bayless being an idiot or any combination of people on around the horn.

Riiiight.

Forgot about him. Is his arm just incredible? His numbers aren’t much different. He has more rushing yards but that’s a byproduct of his offense and conference. He’s similarly athletic as Ponder. I didn’t understand the hype on him a few months back before he announced he was staying either.

Ponder’s also 6’2" 225. Good runner. Good agility. Good accuracy. Smart.cJust how strong his arm is is my only question mark.

It's close, but I think we'd have heard if Ponder had an opportunity to sign a MiLB deal.

However, CP7 is superman, and I have 100% confidence that he could hit 100mph fastball from Tim Lincecum. Easy.

I assume Ponder didn't play much baseball in high school, if any.

Could be wrong. And I know some guys don’t play high school ball and still get drafted (supposedly Vick). But if he didn’t play in high school that would/could explain not being drafted.

Maybe he sucked at tee ball and quit at age 6. Or maybe he just decided early on to do football exclusively.

It's funny because

baseball requires the least amount of natural athleticism of major sports. Regardless, I understand the point.

>>>-----------;;;-->White Helmets! >>>-----------;;;--> White Helmets! >>>-----------;;;--> White Helmets! >>>-----------;;;-->

by RollNole5 on Apr 23, 2010 2:25 AM EDT up reply actions

that depends

on your definition of natural athleticism, hand eye coordination has to be top of the line, and if you want to play in the outfield you have to either have some ridiculous power and quick hands, or be a top of the line athlete that has great depth perception…. but yes you can get away with being less of an athlete in baseball than you can any other sport

by seminoles44 on Apr 23, 2010 6:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah thats what I was referring to,

hand-eye coordination to me is an incredible talent, but not necessarily athleticism. But I agree with your statement.

Locker is a better athlete than damn any college QB. NFL scouts have know that for years

4.4 speed and an absolute cannon. He just needs to harness his talent within a pro style offense. CP7 is light years ahead in terms of accuracy, pocket awareness, and the abilty to run a sophisticated scheme

by westcoastnolefan on Apr 23, 2010 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Right.

There’s no question about who has more upside. However, Ponder’s football IQ is off the charts compared to Locker. It doesn’t hurt that dude has all day to throw on most occasion, as our OL is the baddest ass OL in the damn biz

he's a QB not a RB

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning can’t run at all. Drew Brees is short and has average arm strength, but he and Brady and Manning are accurate and can run an offense. I think Jamarcus Russell proved that measureables do not equal good QB.

by westcoastnolefan on Apr 23, 2010 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep. And we're not saying we think Locker is a better choice for QB

We’re just saying that he IS faster than CP7, and is percieved to have a tremendous upside, which is what is going to help in get drafted.

If it were MY money, CP7 gets picked all day, but that’s just me. I just can’t see Locker having the work ethic and football IQ that Ponder does, but if he runs into a coach that can completely maximize his abilities, look out.

Unrealized potential is great,

and it will get a GM fired. I get why scouts are drooling over him, but unless he puts it together on the field I don’t think he warrants a first pick. I also completely agree with your post Randall.

ponder will be a better qb, but

locker has much more physical potential… he has a stronger arm, faster legs and generally just a better athletic physique… however, ponder has the better football iq, accuracy and from what i can tell just a better will to play football and more of the “it” factor, so I can’t blame scouts on picking locker, even though they will be dead wrong

Some of the other 2011 QB's (other than CP7 and Locker) are

Ryan Mallett – Arkansas
Jerrod Johnson – Texas A&M
Andy Dalton – TCU
Case Keenum – Houston
Kevin Riley – Cal
Ricky Stanzi – Iowa
Greg McElroy – Alabama

CP may have been a 3rd rounder this year because of the injury concerns and the hype surrounding the big 4 (Bradford, Tebow, Clausen, and McCoy). If he has the type of season we think he will then he can be a top 10 pick.

Agree on Cowherd.

He admits it openly, too.

I hate Rome’s monologues. I think that’s why I can’t stand his show. Not because he’s an ass but because he seems to pause and think out his next 4 words about every 10 seconds. Or just says something he thinks is very insightful. Pauses. Continues pausing. Still pausing. And then repeats it, as if the pause wasn’t effect enough.

For me, Dan Pugh is funny, doesn’t seem to care about “style” and has several other guys in studio to lend their thoughts and get a broad range of opinions.

Henne's got plenty to be elite.

He was middle-of-the-pack among QBs last year in his first year, despite the Fins being slammed with injuries and having a lousy receiving corps.

by Drew J Jones on Apr 22, 2010 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions

You shouldn't be, yet.

However, I’m confident that you will be. He showed me a lot last year. Miami needs a game manager…don’t turn it over, manage the clock, etc. He’s fine for that purpose. Any flashes of brilliance is a bonus.

"Bring back Fred Rouse--a true Nole"

by Randall W. Spetman on Apr 22, 2010 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Henne

I think I’d assess Henne as having had a decent year. The Fins were on a decent roll before the offensive line went to hell with injuries and Ronnie went down.

Despite that, and despite being dealt an 0-3 start, Henne did a good job of keeping them in the hunt. I think he demonstrated an ability to keep them in the game and have a shot at winning. Can’t ask for much more, really. He could do some scary stuff if Brandon Marshall works out.

by Drew J Jones on Apr 22, 2010 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I jsut don't see why.

You can’t expect much more from a 1st year guy with a WR corps in the bottom 5 in the NFL.

by harper.rb on Apr 22, 2010 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't see anything in him that showed me that with a more capable WR corp he would be astronomically better.

He will improve no doubt but that would be because his cast has improved. I want a QB who wills us to victory and in my opinion Henne is not that guy.

by Legal_Seminole on Apr 22, 2010 9:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, I guess I lost that hope a long time ago

NFL gets maybe 3 of those playing at one time. Recently its been a boon between the Mannings, Brady, Brees, resurgence of Farve, and maybe one more out there.

I just don’t see drafting random QB in a first round does anything to get that.

by harper.rb on Apr 22, 2010 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it would be hard to find a guy like that...there's only 4 or 5 out there right now.

Plus, if the Dolphins are run first, run second, wildcat third type team, it’s gonna be hard to get an elite guy to sign up for that.

I would love to trade down a few, but I’m afraid that Williams would be gone then and Giants would reach for Weatherspoon in they moved down to around 20.

Man, has anyone ever had an Expedition Stout from Bell's Brewing Co?

Amazing. 10% ABV and you’d never know it.
