College Football Conference & Division Odds Released

College football Conference & Division odds have been released.I believe this is somewhat newsworthy as these just came out. Olympic Sportsbook (TheGreek), a pretty reputable shop, has posted conference and division odds for college football. All the odds follow the jump. This is not an endorsement of wagering. It is a very interesting topic that we are sure to discuss.  I've also included last year's odds as well so we can compare.

Well that's something...

as someone who doesn’t wager what does that mean it looks like we’re favored to win with Miami the ACC.

The Funk Phenomenon.

Bud, do you know when the books typically release season totals? I usually just bet on individual games, but I have my eye on a few specific totals this year.

by gahnki on May 28, 2010 8:39 PM EDT reply actions

You mean team totals?

Miami is the only one out (an accident) at 9 w/ no +/- Juice. I would say within 10 days.

What totals, if you don’t mind?

by Bud Elliott on May 28, 2010 8:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Sounds good.

Win Totals to watch:

Louisiana Tech (OVER)
Oklahoma (OVER)
Notre Dame (OVER)
Penn State (Under)
FSU (Over)

I copy and pasted that straight from my betting page in the word processor. Most of these will rely on the specific number, but they’ve all been highlighted because of specific reasons. I think L. Tech is going to go through the Tony Franklin first year curve (forgetting Auburn), Oklahoma is bound to rebound, Brian Kelly is going to do well at ND, PSU has no quarterback or offensive line, and I was looking at FSU to receive a bump going from Bobby to Jimbo. I’m beginning to believe the FSU line will be too high for me, though- at least if these conference odds are any indication.

Phil Steele just F***** you hard on Oklahoma. It'll be unplayable.

Oklahoma was completely underrated (because people think losing two top 10 picks who did not play will hurt them, and they don’t realize how unlucky that team was).

I will play VT Under. Not sure what USC’s # is, but would consider over there.

I’ll play under on FSU if it’s something stupid like 9 with a premium on over.

Kelly at ND looks great.

If Miami comes out at 9 and you get a bonus for unders… they need to win 4 of: @ Clemson, FSU, UNC, VTech, @ GTech, @ Pitt, @ OSU JUST TO PUSH. If Miami’s # is 9 without a large penalty for under players, I am hitting under on Miami.

Nice work on La Tech.

I think Temple outperforms.

by Bud Elliott on May 28, 2010 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Definitely. I’m thinking Iowa under as well. Too many close wins last year.

In the MAC, look for Ball State to rebound. MAC recruiting coverage sucks on all the services, but they took some solid players the past few years.

So we have 2x better odds to win the ACC than Virginia Tech?

I know we have an easier road with the worse division and I think we’re a better team, but with where VT has shown up in the polls this surprises me.

by tdchrisdavis on May 28, 2010 8:54 PM EDT reply actions

If Pollsters are wrong... nothing happens

If Vegas is wrong…

Plus, VT’s non-con schedule is nothing compared to Miami’s

by Bud Elliott on May 28, 2010 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Georgia at both +650 to win the SEC and +350 to win the East is enticing to me. Their quarterback play was so bad last year; if Murray can have a strong RS freshman year, I think Georgia can be the surprise team.

South Florida is intriguing at +500.

Ditto Georgia

All of these are a ripoff (look at last year’s odds!), but WVU would be interesting for the BE

UGA

You’re not worried about their switch to 3-4 and lack of pass rush?

by osceolafan850 on May 28, 2010 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I just worry about switches like that

since so many people have to learn new positions. But with the exceptions of Bama and UF I don’t know how good the rest of the SEC will be when removed from the vacuum of the SEC.

by osceolafan850 on May 28, 2010 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Not like their defense was world beaters to begin with. Still a valid concern.

by evenflow58 on May 28, 2010 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s more of a statement on how they underachieved last season + great payout.. It’s an appropriate longshot, but I see an opportunity there.

I’m officially nervous. I’ve heard too many people that aren’t FSU fans predict either a double digit win season and/or a ACC championship game appearance. I just don’t see more than 9 wins out of this team. Maybe I’m way off base here but I’d take the under on most of the predictions I’ve heard about FSU.

by evenflow58 on May 28, 2010 9:14 PM EDT reply actions

We’ll see. I’m not very confident about the UM, CU, or BC games. I tend to be pessimistic about pre-season predictions though…helps me keep my sanity.

by evenflow58 on May 28, 2010 10:55 PM EDT up reply actions

People seem to forget

That even over the last 2 mediocre seasons, we were ONE play away from 1st place in the Atlantic (goaline fumble @ GT in 2008, G5’s dropped pick @ BC in 2009).

This team can do some things with the newfound attention to detail. 10-4 w/ ACCCG appearance.

I always wonder with odds like this

is Vegas making us favorites because people will put money on FSU if they don’t, or because they think we will win that many games.

by osceolafan850 on May 28, 2010 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

Vegas will put odds where they will make money

so it’s probably a mixture of both.

Also, we don’t know how many games the FSU over/under is. We could win the our division AND the ACC with only 8 regular season wins, or go 10-2 with losses only to Clemson and BC and lose a tiebreaker to not even win our division.

I think we will understand a lot more of how they view us when the season totals O/U come out

by freshcollegeboy on May 28, 2010 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions

personally

I will put $$$$ on the under if it’s 10 like I’ve seen in some predictions. I might also play the under if its 9. People just don’t see the mountain we will have to climb to get there.

by freshcollegeboy on May 28, 2010 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions

We see it, though.

And we’ll look smart when they “see no reason for improvement in 2011 after losing Ponder and Hudson”

by Bud Elliott on May 28, 2010 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions

These threads never get enough hits.

Has to be a way to illustrate to readers the (non-gambling) value of this info. I know we’ve run articles to that effect. (And that it’s Memorial Day Weekend, and I’m running back down to the beach as soon as I hit Post.) But still.

Haha...as I was reading that, I thought the same thing.

Not sure how prevalent that phenomenon is, though.

"I'm just a big, hairy, American winning machine"

by Randall W. Spetman on May 30, 2010 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I just dont see how

FSU and Miami are +250 yes I think we are better but I dont think the other schools are that far behind us, well miami. I know they are that far behind us. I think its going to be just like the last 2 tears at least for the Coastal side. I feel 88% we have the alt side. What is our vice this year is going to be the OOC games from hell. Someone fire the guy that did this to us. Wait I forgot there already gone.

Why is the sky blue? Because, God Loves the Infantry

by Desman on May 30, 2010 5:47 AM EDT reply actions

Good to hear from you, Des!

Good thing about the OOC games is it doesn’t count on our conference record.

by Bud Elliott on May 30, 2010 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions

What did Clemson do to improve from 1000 last year to 650 this year?

Is that just an overreaction to their division title? Seems like losing Spiller and Ford would scare people off.
