Rashad Greene (St. Thomas Aquinas Wide Receiver) Commits To Florida State

via Myspace

Greene hauled in this ball for a long TD catch.

Rashad Greene, a wide receiver from St. Thomas Aquinas High School has committed to play for the Florida State Seminoles, per Warchant.com  Thought to be FSU's top target at the receiver position, Greene had long expressed similar fondness for FSU and pulled the trigger today after the Jimbo Fisher Football Camp.

Greene is 6'0" and 170 lbs.  He runs a legit sub-4.4 40 time and had offers from all the major programs, including UGA (he's originally from Georgia), Alabama, Florida, and Miami.  Here's the scouting report from the 2011 Recruiting Board:

Rashad is seriously fast.  He ran the fastest 40 meter dash at the 2011 prospect combine run by Under Armour in Orlando, with a 4.4 on a wet track (100 meter champion Mike Bellamy ran 4.5 for comparison.) He is an extremely explosive athlete. Runs good routes. Catches the ball well in front of his body. He is very similar in crispness to FSU Commit Kenny Shaw from last cycle, giving him a much better chance to reach his ceiling than someone who is just raw. Greene is an ideal combination of the good qualities of current 'Nole wideouts Taiwan Easterling (hands, body control, routes, smarts) and Bert Reed (speed, explosiveness), and he's taller. Rashad receives good coaching from a proven program as well (hall-of-fame wideout Chris Carter. We believe he is the #1 WR on FSU’s board.  Greene is originally from Georgia.  Also boasts a 3.5 Core GPA and a qualified SAT.  Values education.  Quiet, humble kid.  Even in an offense that spread it around, Greene could quickly be a 50-catch, 700 yard wideout.  Was STA's punt returner over FSU commit LaMarcus Joyner and prospect Phillip Dorsett!  FSU leads.  Film 1  | Film 2

Greene is a 4* prospect and one of the top 20 receivers in the country.  There will be much debate this year over the top receiver prospect in Florida, but Greene must be included in the discussion.   He is in the ESPNU 150 (#123).  FSU now has 12 commitments and a stunning 6 of them are ranked in the ESPNU 150.    This is an excellent pickup for Florida State.  Rashad is an excellent pickup for Florida State.  He gets open using athleticism and technique, he catches the ball, and is smart.  And he is coached by former Pro Bowler Chris Carter.  What more could FSU fans want in a receiver?

Actually, there is something more.  Greene is teammates with offensive tackle Bobby Hart, one of the 10 best offensive linemen in the country and a top target for FSU.  The 'Noles currently lead for Hart, but it won't hurt their chances to have Greene leaning on him as well.

Which Green/Greene caught that in the end zone?

I’m glad they’re spelled differently ;)

5,240 yards total career receiving yards between them when they are done. That’s what I want. That is great fillm, and STA plays good competition, right?

Holy triple crap DK,

5,280 feet/ 3 = 1,760 yards. This may become the second Green(e) Mile. How many yards did E.G. Green have in his career alone? He may have already done a Green Mile. I can’t believe that I fouled this up so badly, since I ran the 880 yards/half mile for my high school track team.

If you like the high school stuff

and have NFL network, check out the series they do on high school rivalries. Very good stuff. We think we are serious about our football here in the south, and we are, but those mid west rivalries…they are just as passionate.

Pretty good pedigree of OL (Tackles, specifically) being the smartest people on the field at virtually all levels. Heck, Bud and I were LTs.

Ok, I undermined my argument by including myself, so just know that Bud was a LT.

this is all great

but we need to back it up with a solid season on the field this year. I feel we’re getting all these great commits because they see the potential resurgence of our program and want to be a part of it, but if we fall flat during the season, kiss these commits goodbye. Not to be too much of a debbie downer, but we just need to show some solid improvement in this year to keep the recruits interested in us and the momentum going.

I think they know FSU is rebuilding. If nothing else the coaching staff if honest with these kids.

It’s kind of FSU’s trademark. Just being straight up. I agree FSU can’t bust and land an awesome class, but it doens’t need to do something wild like 10-2 to make it.

by Bud Elliott on Jun 17, 2010 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

agree, but we just need to show some sign of progress (which I of course think we’ll do) but we all just have to realize it’s a loooooong time til nat’l signing day.

SEC coaches would kill us if we did. I would be like saying we were afraid of who we play.

The myth of their murderous schedule is ingrained too deeply.

by osceolafan2.0 on Jun 17, 2010 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions

A tough schedule could be a selllng point

An FSU coach could say "Come to FSU where you get to play against top level competition every week and not take 3 games off every year games that most people will not be able to see because they are buried on some BS channel or the internet. " (Try to stay away from National Title Game talk)

by NationWideNole on Jun 18, 2010 7:43 AM EDT up reply actions

I got it

One of us needs to enroll into a FL high school, become a stud on the football team so FSU will start to recruit you. Then, you can report back an insider’s view on the recruiting process and everything the coaches do/don’t say. Why did we not think of this earlier?!

by CT_Nole on Jun 17, 2010 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions

I would love this!

It would be great to know exactly what they say and how they “close” a prospect. If anyone has any info on this, that would be awesome.

by jasonole59 on Jun 17, 2010 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions

We can't have an awful season.

But these kids aren’t stupid. They know they’re the ones who are supposed to come in, learn the systems, and put us back on top. And so they know it’s going to be a couple years as they develop into those roles.

by Drew J Jones on Jun 17, 2010 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree

i think what we need to show this year is that we don’t lose to the teams we used to never lose to… wf, ncst, and we play competitive football against ou, miami, and uf. If we play a good tough game against those three teams… it is a win no matter the score

Do we have a commit that will be the “bell cow” type of commit who recruits for us? I know Karlos Williams is supposed to be doing that, but I wasn’t sure if there was another guy who would lead the way.

wouldn't it be a luxury

I doubt Joyner is his boy, because Hart did not play at STA last year, he played at Gibbons

Hart transferred to STA in the middle of his junior year, after football season. So, I’m not sure hoe well he knew Joyner and the other seniors from last year. He is close to Greene, however.
