Where I Come From: EA Sports NCAA Football 2011 Available Now
This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011.
A message from your sponsor for the last week. Because you already know you're getting the game.
When you go to a particular school or grow up around college football, you are more than just a fan. It's who you are. We thought we could leverage this pride in your roots and show that "where you come from" is more than just a statement about geography. By positioning NCAA Football 11 as a game that understands this pride and is authentic to these traditions, the takeaway should be that anything that is in college football is in NCAA Football 11.
And this doesn't just include game play (though that's a huge part of it). It's rivals and mascots; it's legends and stories. It's those things that are at the very fabric of the game itself. Of course the game is great this year as well. With authentic entrances, mascots and specific offenses for each team, the term "where I come from" takes on a much larger meaning. While playing NCAA Football 11 is ultimately a great sports sim, it should also give you a sense of the pride and emotion one has for being a fan of a team they will never not be a part of.
We appreciate your continued support of Tomahawk Nation and we'll continue to keep this place free.

Can someone PLEASE tell me if this video cartridge work in my Colecovision?
I just upgraded from Intellivision a few years ago and I don’t want to have to upgrade again.

I'm not so sure this Jimbo fella is the right man for the job.
I believe the lowest supported platform is Agima. You're SOL, I'm afraid.
Although I think it would be great to see a controller insert for the Intellivision with a little picture of a bottle of douche on one of the buttons. You could press it to make Timmah flex and scream whenever he runs for a first down.

Buddy, good to have you back. I was worried about you since you were MIA for awhile. I thought maybe you had banged your head too hard while rocking out.

Thanks. Nothing quite so heroic as that, I'm afraid. Just been really, really busy.

Why No Osceola on Renegade?
I’ve purchased this game every year for a long time now… they never have our mascot. Why is that? In last year’s version there was a random little paragraph before a game would start about how Chief Osceola planting the spear at mid field is one of the most intimidating moments in college football. I’m not saying they have to program that in (but it would be cool)… but why not have our mascot in the game? Is it the Indian thing?
Some have said
The university doesn’t want to call Chief Osceola a “mascot” as it may be demeaning.
Not an alcoholic, just an FSU grad.

I believe the NCAA makes those decisions, not the individual universities.
And it’s well documented that the NCAA has deemed it RACIST for any college to honor an indian tribe. Could these guys be any more separated from reality?

What happened with Illinois
was legit. That was not an honor.
FSU is different. But considering only the Seminole Tribe of Florida has agreed to let the university use the name. Its a thin line. Good call on their part.
How was this a good call?
You could claim that all mascots offend you, but getting rid of all mascots based on one persons feelings is not reasonable. An argument becomes valid when it is placed within reason. To say that a Seminole tribe making a recreation of a Seminole warrior is offensive is clearly not within reason!

Because the Seminole Tribe of Florida
Does not have the Seminole NAME copyrighted. The Seminole Tribe of Oklahoma is less than happy about the FSU’s references. So, the less nationalization of Icon that can be questioned outside of the state of Florida the better.
And there is a difference between Illinois and FSU. I think FSU has been much more responsible with the Seminole iconography and approach to native american heritage than Illinois ever was, and that’s one of the reasons we still have it as our name.
We have to remember that the Seminole Tribe represents a people who’s culture and life was more or less destroyed by the American govt. It is something to take seriously and is not a joke, much like the “Fighting Irish” is. I am glad and appreciative that the Seminole Tribe of Florida has given its permission to use the Seminole name, however, the Seminole Tribe of OK has about as much authority over its use, so I agree with FSU in treading lightly.
I don't think you're reading that right.
Everything involving Seminoles in Florida and Seminoles in Oklahoma was worked out between the two groups at the time the nickname and images were retained. There’s absolutely no reason that wheel would have to be re-invented for the latest annual edition of a computer game that has been around for years.
If the tribes were a factor in EA Sports avoiding use of the image, the concern was money, not history. EA Sports, unlike the Florida State University, is a commercial for-profit enterprise. Florida State can use the images. Networks can show what happens at an event they cover. But what property rights are involved if a computer game adapts the image? Who is entitled to royalties? How much?
If EA shows Sparty in a game and the game sells 50 million copies, Michigan State and the NCAA get their cut and that’s it. EA doesn’t have to think about actual Spartans who have lawyers and accountants and who might claim their own rights to the images and thus to royalties.
The real Seminoles are another matter. If you’re EA Sports and you don’t feel like sharing your profits so generously beyond payments to the NCAA entities you’ve already made arrangements with, you don’t show anything—like the image of Osceola—that the tribe rather than the university could claim a right to. You’ll keep to university logos.

Florida State does not have a mascot.
Unless it’s Renegade the horse. The university always refers to ‘nicknames’ ‘images’ and ‘symbols’ in reference to the Seminoles identity. The university does not support the idea of human beings as mascots.
And if the NCAA had any say in this, well,.. there you are. Besides being against Osceola and Renegade on dogmatic grounds, the tradition reminds NCAA officials of a high-profile showdown they lost. They’re going to be about as thrilled with seeing Osceola in their game as we are about seeing BibleBoy Tebow on the box.

:/
i can only imagine the soul-dampening sigh that preceded the pressing of the “Publish” button.
pats back there, there. i can’t even see tebow with the post its i adhered to the sides of my monitor. i’m going to buy the game and cut him out of the cover. or maybe just redact his eyes. or maybe both.
We asked the network to remove the tebow thing
I figured posting the Gators Recruiting Violations photos today was good timing.
We hope the tebow thing is down soon.

Lol. I was so confused for a second.
Until I scrolled down and saw the second post on the front page.
From a purely marketing standpoint, you’d think Tebow would be too divisive a figure among hardcore NCAA football fans to be a standard-bearer.
And yes, I definitely thought the first post was hilarious in the current context lol.
