Vince Williams, the junior linebacker at Florida State, called it "defensive teach time." And what happens in defensive teach time, Williams said, is this:
"We stand and we put different [defensive] fronts in and we work over the things that coaches installed for that day," he said. "So we have a different defensive play that will go in that day and then we'll work it against different [offensive] fronts…
And it will help us get a visual of what we'll see at full speed throughout the practice.""Coming from a purely man defense, that was the difficult transition, just understanding how you fit inside your zone," Williams said. "But I think it's going to be nice. It's going to be exciting to watch those linebackers — as fast as we are — move around in space and make things happen."

Is this just Coachspeak?
“Shoot, they’ve won their share,” Fisher said. “The defense is playing every bit as good as the offense right now. Every bit, in my opinion.”
I was a little surprised to see that quote at the end of the article. So is it reality or just talk? My koolaid cup is going to be getting a little more full if this is for real.
I think it is mostly coach speak
I do think that they have made good plays, and I also think that the offense may not be completely up to speed yet, but I think he’s trying to be extremely positive about the defense.
If so, it seems he's interested in building confidence and attitude into the defense
at the expense of managing (see: lowering) expectations for the fanbase.
It seems like a small thing, but I think he’s mortgaging a bit of his coach swag to manufacture some sense of cohesiveness and faith in the defensive players. Sacrificial. I think it’ll pay off.
FSU Defense 2010: Taking back 1st down.
something happened in his thinking this summer.
At the end of spring, he was angry, all doom and gloom.
Now he’s a ray of sunshine. Consistently.
Either that means we’re really in better shape now than he thought.
or
He realizes we have a long way to go, so getting mad about it is pointless— The defense will get beat down enough without his piling on by ranting, so he might as well try to keep everything positive while we grow.
I tend to think it’s the latter. But if that’s true, why would he get behind what would be an absurd Ponder for Heisman campaign knowing that everyone’s hopes will be dashed?
Just maybe he is feeling optimistic.

Everything Fisher's saying is to inspire confidence in the players.
There’s certainly no upside in raising the already bloated expectations of the fanbase. Fisher will handle the losses with coachspeak just as effectively. I think it’s gutsy, and obviously I’m impressed.
Can we really assume it is 100% coachspeak?
I realize there are multiple coaching styles, but 9 times out of 10, a coach is going to downplay his team’s strengths to challenge them to get tougher.
Fisher himself has followed this m.o., hasn’t he? Did he blow a bunch of smoke his first year as OC about how good that offense was going to be? Or did he present a fairly realistic qualification of the growth that was needed? It seems like it was the latter — am I wrong?
Just trying to find some precedent before we jump to conclusions precisely contrary to what he is saying… i.e., they’re so bad the only thing he can do is instill positive reinforcement.
I hope they HAVE A TON
of teach time.
Williams,
“It was a lot of fuzziness last year with some things that were going on, but this year everything’s very clear cut. We have a lot of teach time.”
LB’s have been putting out some great quotes. HAHA.
Not an alcoholic, just an FSU grad.
WR
Could be due to the minor shake up at WR and the offense grinding some gears at the begining of fall ball…but our defense is going up against some good competition right now and the zone defense that Stoops runs is what Ponder (and many other QB’s) had the most trouble with last season…being even is a good thing right now
reports said the QB's were having trouble with it
and were throwing too high accordingly.
