How High Are The Expectations For The Florida State Seminoles and UM in Football?
Ira Schoffel tells us that "It has been four years since Florida State and Miami were this highly regarded by the Atlantic Coast Conference media. Four long years."
"When you are talking about two programs that have tradition and history of success on a national level as Miami and FSU -- and then consequently the brands that they enjoy in college football -- there's no question that when they are strong, our league is perceived as being stronger as a whole," ACC Commissioner John Swofford said. "So the stronger those two programs become, because of their tradition and history and brand, the better perceived the ACC will be from a football standpoint."
The last time the Sunshine State rivals were both serious contenders to meet in the conference title game was the summer of 2006 -- when Jimbo Fisher was the offensive coordinator at Louisiana State, and Randy Shannon was defensive coordinator at UM.

As much as I hate to say it
I would love to see FSU play Miami twice this year, hopefully winning both match-ups.
Ira is right, the ACC needs a strong FSU and Miami to be taken seriously. We need the ACC post-seasoners to start pulling in some bowl wins. As bad as the Noles have been this decade, we’ve at least managed to squeak out some quality post play wins.

Sidenote:
Did Ira ditch the Democrat after they went all money hungry or is this just a side gig?

I love the fact that Swofford is so unapologetic . . .
In his bias for UM and FSU to be in the title game, for the obvious money / viewership draw. If he would stand there with a straight face and say “I love all my children equally,” you couldn’t blame him for being diplomatic even if you knew he privately favored the two marquee programs in the title game.
But if you were VT, Clemson, and Georgia Tech, wouldn’t you feel a little slighted by the open way he says it?
"There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese." -- Coach Finstock
I wonder
how the ACC would be perceived if FSU & MIami were to have another 90s-like decade with VT, GaT & BC having similar success as they’ve had in the past decade?
More interesting, how would that stack up to the current perception of the SEC & Big 10?
