The Last Time Mark Stoops' Defense Faced BYU

Stay connected for news and updates

Mark Stoops' Arizona defense faced one of the better BYU offenses in recent memory in the 2008 Las Vegas Bowl. Stoops' boys held the Cougars to 5.6 yards per play while tallying two sacks and three turnovers.  The kid who makes the long catch for BYU is now a starter for the Indianapolis Colts.  It was BYU's second worst offensive performance of the year. The Cats won 31-21.  Arizona didn't have the talent that FSU has, but those players had been in the system for two or three years as opposed to the single off-season FSU's players have had. Keep in mind what happened against BYU last year before the game was mathematically over:

BYU's offense racked up 60% more yards per play against FSU's 2009 defense than it did against Arizona's 2008 defense.  Coaching.
