2011 Recruiting Discussion Thread #10 [CLOSED]
Welcome to the recruiting discussion thread. Please refer to the Recruiting Board for information on prospects. We are asking readers comment here instead of the recruiting board so that the recruiting board will load quicker. Feel free to talk recruiting news, rumor, information, etc. Amateurs and experts are all welcome. No question is too simple. Have a projected class? That's fine as well.
Once this thread fills up, we will start a new one.
Also, please don't fish for information from subscription websites. Violators will be banned from this thread.

2012 DT Dalvon Stuckey to FSU. 09.11.10.
FAQ:
1. Will FSU take 2 WRs now instead of just Rashad Greene?
This is more likely with the dismissal of Jarmon Fortson. FSU is loaded at wide receiver and doesn't need to take another. FSU could have as many as 13 wide receivers in 2011. That's more than optimal and is not a good use of finite resources (85scholarships). However, this answer likely depends on the future of Taiwan Easterling (baseball, but when?) and Cam Wade (don't see many non-contributing 5th-year seniors on the roster). The coaches will be in the best position to determine this, and we are not going to second guess their move here.
2. What's up w/ Tony Steward?
This is a Clemson-FSU battle. Clemson is in desperate need of linebackers because its current crop lacks both quality and numbers. Plus, Steward's idol is Ernie Sims, who was coached by Clemson LB coach Kevin Steele. Steward named Clemson his leader following the camp. Despite this, we are confident in FSU's position with him. Steward is very respectful and has said good things about every school he visits. Clemson will be an underdog in 4-5 games this season and it would be hard to see them land the top LB prospect in the nation from out of state while finishing with 5 or 6 losses. While we are mindful that Clemson can promise him an immediate starting job playing for Ernie Sims' former coach while FSU cannot (FSU is loaded with linebacker talent), we think FSU is in good position at the present time and that FSU's position will only improve from here. It will really depend on whether the kid prefers immediate playing time or the better program.
3. Are Bell, Drew and Steward silents?
This rumor seems to originate from another board. These rumors stem all the time ever year. Anyone can be an insider on the internet, and can roll the dice for internet credibility. Bell, Steward and Drew all seem to be pretty high on Florida State. There's a great chance they could all be in Tallahassee in Fall 2011, but there's no credible proof at this point that any are silents. Bell is down to FSU and Ole Miss, Steward is down to FSU and Clemson, and Drew is between FSU and UGA.

Steward, Bell, Drew & Co. seemed to have a great time at the opener
Great sign. I think they loved the team & the coaches.

Brisset looked very impressive to me today. He has a cannon and is a very impressive runner.

haha yeah I saw that as he was walking off the field. Coach was holding him back
They did get some terrible calls there at the end…scored 2 times but the refs didn’t call it.
That's the most emotion I've ever seen out of that kid...
his interviews are like watching paint dry…

couldn’t throw it in the ocean from the beach watching that game.. he was ok on the short to short mid, anything beyond that not so good.. oleary appears to be a pretty good athlete.. took a couple plays off and jogged around a bit though.. they got screwed big at the end there. national highschool football association will have a good look at that i bet…
O'Leary is amazing
And I’m pretty sure Brissett could throw a football in the ocean if he was standing on a beach.
Oleary was playing like 4-5 positions.
must have been exausted.

On the other hand, I was very impressed by Brissett. His offensive line could not block Glenville, so Dwyer adjusted by using their sprint out passing game often. It limited his opportunities to pass downfield.
Get the kid a redshirt year, some good coaching, and complete dedication to being a quarterback, and you’ll have a special guy at the position.
you should feel good about O'Leary.
"…You can't get enough Lonnie Pryors on your football team." -Eddie Gran
I hear that we're in good position for O'Leary
but he’s also interest in Miami… did you see what Hankerson did in the FAMU game? The point is not that Miami throttled FAMU, but that the TE was the main receiver in the Miami O.
Accountabilty is back in Tallahassee....
I heard there was some news on Tavares Pressley. Did we decide to keep him on the team or will we have an extra scholly for the 2011 class?
GO NOLES!!! SCALP EM!
For the sake of the kid I hope we keep him
For the sake of the program I hope he gets his degree and we move on. Hard to say that but college football is a business.
Team GOLD
He's a Senior, and all the reports from his injury said this was his final year of eligibility
so, news is either he got the medical hardship or didn’t, probably gone
Pretty sure they said
on Rivals that Pressley was going to get his degree and move on.
Not 100% sure I’m remembering right though.
Pressley is not applying for a Medical Hardship
he will graduate and move on.

No way does that guy get a 6th year. Not with the talent FSU is bringing in.

Why does ESPN not list us as one of the leaders for Kevin Grooms?
They list Tennessee Volunteers, Mississippi Rebels, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Oregon Ducks, Kansas State Wildcats. I thought the rumor was that if he had made it up to the Jimbo Camp, he would’ve committed. Has anything happened between now and then? For some reason, I never hear anything about this kid.

Ray Drew
I spoke with for about 5 minutes at halftime. He was there with his family. He was wuite surprised I recognized him as know one else seemed to. After me, people took notice. But anyways, I told him he was already a household name among FSU faithful and I told hime to get used to it. He actually walked over to me and man is he big! Every bit of 6’5" and 240 to 250. Really nice kid and very respectful. I asked him about his game on Friday and it was a big win for his team and he told me a sack or two, a forced fumble, and several tackles, so in his words, “he had a very good game”. I was with my little brother who is a freshman and I joked to Drew, “make sure my kid brother goes to church”. Drew laughed and I shook his hand wishing him good luck and I told hime I was looking forward to seeing him the Garnet & Gold. He got a big smile on his face after that. I really think FSU is the team to beat for him.

If I was nervous about my decision
I’d smile when someone said that too. That’s a good story (my friend’s dad sits right in front of the section where players sat, so my buddy and I before the game were just hanging out there, I think it was pretty clear to him that we knew who he was), I just hope it all pans out.
Shot a Gator in Jean Shorts just to watch him die.
I am getting really excited about this recruiting class.
I think we are in really good position (chance of commiting very likely) with:
Ray Drew
Giorgio Newberry
Ruben Carter
Tony Steward.
In addition, I think we have a reasonable shot (chance of commiting likely) at:
Jacoby Brisset
Nick O’leary
Assuming we land 4 out of those 6 this class will be ridiculous! Am I missing anybody?
I don't think he's a lock anywhere
But I believe Bama is his leader currently. Or they are right there with the Cocks.

Yep
Read the same thing from a couple of reputable posters on 2 different boards. We, Miami and Bama are all window dressing.
man it would be great to luck into getting him here though.

Caught part of a headline on a crawl that said O’Leary was suspended by the FHSSA for flipping off the ref on Monday. Dwyer coach said they would forfeit the games rather than play without him.

I saw him do it live. And laughed.
The fix was in big time for that game. I mean…wow. First they called back a relatively clear TD reception (the receiver’s knee landed in the end zone well ahead of the rest of his body).
But the worst of it came with the final two plays. Jacoby Brisett tried to dive it in from the 1 and drove the pile, and appeared to break the plane of the goal as the refs blew the whistle. They blew it as the pile was still moving forward, deeper into the endzone. Then spotted it just inside the 1 yard line.
The next, and final, play was the really incredible one. Brisset dove again, and clearly got into the endzone, I mean, by at least 2-3 feet. Then the pile jumped on him. The refs did not stop the clock to spot the ball, and essentially let time expire, then claimed he didn’t get in.
Personally, after all that, I’m surprised O’Leary contained himself as well as he did.

He used to have just offers from some smaller schools, but bigger fish have started swimming around including Bama. Just saw an article about him today where he says FSU is his #1. Probably the same one you saw Jturner, but I will link it for other people.

Huge get for us when he pulls the trigger. And what a way to get our class rolling for next year with him and Williams aboard.
Mario Edwards Jr., Dante Fowler, Stuckey.
I’m giddy about how our DL class might look next year. Throw in studs like Drew and Bell this year….sheeeesh.
It's hilarious
when I talk w/ outsiders who only pay attention to national media, who are completely oblivious to what is going on in Tallahassee. They don’t realize that we’re on the following track:
- 2010 – top 20 team, play in conference championship (w/ a decent chance to win)
- 2011 – top 10-15 team, win conference championship
- 2012 & thereafter – top 10 team, win conference championship, compete for national championship.

tell him to talk Jernigan into coming to Tally
won’t happen, I know. But wouldn’t you just love to see a gators’ faces if we pulled Wilder and Jernigan from them?
im never really worried about our O-line recruits
I feel like there’s not a huge demand for the type of guys we go after. I think if we get guys with a specific body type and a great work ethic we’ll be fine for the duration of Trickett’s coaching career at FSU.
With the other positions in football i think “god-given” talent plays a huge role in the success of players. With OL i feel like we can “build players from nothing”. We get guys we like. Shape them the way we want. Teach them the techniques. Watch them grow into stud players.
As long as we have guys who want to put in the time and enough depth to have a mostly Junior-Senior starting line we’ll be successful there
There are interesting cultural (& possibly regional) differences re officials from verbal commitments
Michigan, for example, doesn’t allow players who have verbally committed to take officials elsewhere; UF really frowns on it—it could get you banished by UM. We do. This is interesting b/c when I talk with friends who are die-hard Michigan fans, for example, they learn that someone like Karlos Williams is taking officials and they infer that these other programs have a legit chance at getting him to de-commit from FSU. When I tell them that Karlos is only visiting to have a back-up plan in case of a football apocolypse (e.g., Jimbo leaves, etc.), they don’t believe me… they still consider Karlos a soft verbal.
Accountabilty is back in Tallahassee....
just tell them, these are 17 and 18 year old kids, getting to go places they never though possible
for FREE, shoot, I’d be going to USC, Michigan, Texas, Alabama, and Hawaii if they offered me official visits (although I think Hawaii really limits their’s to only those they think will commit because of cost) because they are either meccas of college football (Bama and UM) or awesome places. (before anyone says why not FSU, I’m originally from Pensacola and could go on my own dime).
I’ve always thought that because kids take visits after committing makes them a soft verbal is one of the dumbest recruiting thoughts out there. These are kids, they want to go to these places for free, and sometimes want to recruit for their school. And some do have legitimate interest.
Karlos is the recruit I am least worried about in this class.
feel pretty confident on all the guys we have committed.
Karlos is definitely at the top though in terms of confidence. Put Stample on there, Mitchell (who I always seem to forget about…in part because he is so solid)
I think some people are just idiots.

And how did we get screwed? I have no idea and just would like to know. And ESPN has us as his second behind Alabama. Are the bridges burned? Who talked about who’s mama? JK.
Bridges burned (as I understand it)
b/c we won’t take just “any” Lincoln player in order to get the top talent anymore. Short version.
If someone can explain in it more detail I’ll leave it to them, as anything more I can provide would be a broken telephone version.
"The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary." Vince Lombardi
"We'll win games with talent, we'll win championships with character." Jimbo Fisher
wow. that's a shock after his consecutive sub-90 performances.
Although it’s been pointed out that he averaged over 5 ypc in the Manatee game.
What’s your take on him at RB, SWFL? Will he bust like a lot of Noles are saying?
even more impressive, Ely (the Plant QB didn't play)
the defense could key on him and he still performed well
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Stuckey!!!!!
I know he’s for next year, but I hope everyone realizes Stuckey is a stud. Big time get.
is there gonna be a thread? or is this commit gonna be completely swallowed up by our post-game panicking?
I'm not panicked.
But I think the game in general swallowed it. He announced well before the game started I thought.
MiNDSET? SWAG-ER-ISM!!!

"Trick is right."
"Wherever you are, Trick, you are wise, indeed."
"Correct, Sir Trick."
yeah, he did, but I was hoping after the game we'd have something
as things stand though, I guess the thread won’t happen. Ah well, welcome about Dalvon!
Is this going to be a big deal to players like
Ray Drew and Nick O’Leary, who it seems are playing a wait-see game?
Georgia lost. Miami lost.
Shouldn’t matter a bit. That is, unless we do something similar against BYU….which we won’t.
These kids aren’t dumb. They know OU is a top ten team.
Im pretty sure most people thought we were going to lose this game
We lost a game we were expected to lose….move on and beat BYU.
We come out and play well against BYU at home
and show we have pride after a loss that will help in my opinion.
Plus have some of those recruits at the game with a lard crowd
Yeah, people are getting fatter all the time ;-)
Is the game sold out? I’ll be embarassed if it isn’t. Had kind of an excuse against lowly samford, but BYU had better be packed. It’s Jimbo’s first home game against a competent opponent.
BYU lost 14-35 to Air Force. They're about to become 1-2 after we play em.
And I hope our recruits are watching when we take our anger out from last week on some Cougars.
We need this kid.

i think this offensive performance did show a need to upgrade skill talent on offense , guys like aaron green, nick oleary, kelvin benjamin become much more of a necessity than a luxury. Would we give kevin grooms a look on offense?
I really think D Free is gonna be a monster at RB

I couldn’t agree more. He seems more polished than Wilder and it may seem crazy but I’m more excited about Freeman than Wilder.
The biggest reason we needed Wilder is the publicity of stealing the most recognizable recruit from UF.
His contributions on the field will be the icing on the cake.
Bring back Korey Mangum — a true Nole!
How is that? I didn't say he was just like him, that would be an exaggeration.
They’re both the same size, with similar running styles. How is that an exaggeration?
FEAR THE SPEAR!!!!!!!!!
alright, you covered your bases with the kinda and lil bit.
I’m coming round to the idea that he’s better than Ingram.
I think so too. Definitly think he is stronger than Ingram and may have better vision too.
FEAR THE SPEAR!!!!!!!!!
Disagree completely
Size: I’m 5’10, and Trent is definitely shorter than me.
Strength: Richardson is a sophomore freak of nature. Wilder has a strong lower body, but I don’t expect him to be as strong as Trent is at this point in his career.
Running Style: Trent can pound or finesse. His vision is simply incredible. There’s a reason he was the best back in the nation coming out of HS.
Wilder is great, and I’m not one of those “ahh he sucks at RB blah blah blah” types, but I don’t think he’s anything close to Trent.

Whoops...Sorry...thought you were comparing WILDER
My bad!!!!
Still…Don’t think he’ll be Trent. There can be only one…

Come on Randy.....I wasn't saying he was going to be like Mr.407....LOL
Just that he reminds me of T Rich a lil bit. Size and running style.
FEAR THE SPEAR!!!!!!!!!
I hope you're right.
Trent was a stud in HS. watched a ton of his games. Man amongst boys.
Formerly known as Randall W. Spetman
yea
i like his potential, i think wilder is gonna be a stud to but i still thin we should go hard after green were lacking that home run threat
Any ideas of
what a loss like that to OU will do to the perception in the recruiting world around our program??
small to none.
Even most Kool-aid chugging Noles knew we’d get whooped. It was uglier than we thought, but just wait till we beat on a couple teams.
Keep in mind that last year we lost six games and pulled in a top 10 class.
High Schools
Which ones do we have pipelines at? Where do have to repair feelings? Where can we basically not go to?

Yes it's a joke.
The whole reason we took Bright was to try and start a pipeline there with there 2010 kids.

I agree not a pipeline
was just pointing out a previous player from the school (2008 class for Dawkins, 2009 for Bright and unfortunately loss of Corey Miller for 2010)

never got him either. And it all started with those damn hostesses.

Jimbo wanted him bad.
But from the sounds of it he was never anything other than a cock? Kinda like Clowney this year.
I was going to include him also
but didn’t and only mentioned Miller since he actually committed.

First Coast is our pipe line right? What are the chances that we get Eric’s little brother? My parents live in Jax, do I need to make a road trip and talk to this kid or is he following big bro…..

This kid would probably play FS (IMO he might be a good fit at CB), and would be #2 on the depth chart next year. KLOS would be #2 SS. Would provide much needed depth.
Accountabilty is back in Tallahassee....
This shows what a good recruiting staff can do in the face of common perceptions
Not our staff, USC’s. The fact that a Fla kid would have have the briefest thought about going out there with the way they looked the first two weeks and the sanctions is crazy. And people were worried about how the OU game would affect recruiting.

I think they’ll find a way to get HCD out to visit if he really wants to come.

Lets get a DP pipeline going
I know there is no place for D. Hart in this class and I like our RB recruits better anyway, but as a DP alum I love watching Hart play. HaHa and K. Williams would make our 2012 secondary look so scary that Mark Stoops would be having flashbacks to his 2001 secondary at Miami. I hope Williams and Shaw can get HaHa to switch to the Noles, if he committed to Bama because of the depth chart than he should take a quick look at our lack of safeties and realize he can be in the 2 deep as a true froshman with a chance to battle for the starting job right away.

Does anyone have any video on Carter?
I hear his name alot but haven’t seen him in action. Also, he’s listed at 285 right now—how big do you think Trickett/Jimbo want this kid to play at?
Accountabilty is back in Tallahassee....
"Jacob Coker has come on and really become a force at 6'5", 225 pounds. We've gone to more of a pro-style offense and distribute the ball around a little bit more," added Coach Perry.
I’m glad to read that he is getting some more experience tossing the ball. Also, @ 6’5/225 as a senior he is on pace to be a big guy once Vic Villoria gets a hold of him.
I linked the wrong article there.
Here is the correct one.

That's quite a day, what do we know about the kid?
Maybe the next big name for FSU could be Mario (Edwards and Pender) much like we have the Christian’s, Nigel’s
We could have the Mario Brother’s, one that dominates in the running game and another in knocking out QB’s
Well, I found this
http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=rivals-1122495
"I’ve been hearing from Florida State and Tennessee," Pender said. "I’m keeping in contact with them right now. Actually, I haven’t talked to Tennessee yet. I call the Florida State coaches, though."
"I went up there for a camp," he said of Florida State. "It went well. I got to talk to the coaches afterward. They liked me a lot and an offer could come this season if I do well. They want to see a little bit of game film and see what they see from that."
"They want to see me on film and want me to send it off to them after a few games. They seem to like me a lot."
"Florida State, they stand out to me right now," Pender said. "They’ve always been my school. I’ve always wanted to go there."
Please offer this kid and get him committed. FINALLY WE CAN HAVE OUR OWN DAMN PERCY HARVIN TYPE GUY, instead of always having to listen to how _ at Florida is the next Percy Harvin type-player. This kid seems REAL good. I don’t care if you’re playing against the worst school in Florida, these are 17-18 year olds he’s playing against and to run for 344 yards against peers is ridiculous.
Pender and his teammate Dumas are both said to have interest in FSU
But as far as Pender goes……………Damn this kid is about to blow up!
by westcoastnolefan on Sep 18, 2010 12:31 AM EDT reply actions
Also
I think it is absolutely imperative that we re-establish a presence in SWFLA. Pender and Mike Dumas are examples of talent that actually have an interest in FSU. I’m irritated at the fact 2011 talents like Blakely, Sammy Watkins, and Bellamy had no real interest in FSU ( Though we may have screwed ourselves outta Bellamy.I’m no insider so I’ll leave it at that. No use pissing people off). Maybe the Wilder commitment can assist us in our effort to maintain a foot in that area.

Do you think that the relationship that some of the coaches have with other teams
JF with Bama, Stoops with OU and AZ has any to help with recuiting for us and these schools. Lets say we have a guy instate that we dont need or would fit that the other school do you think the coaches would help out these teams or they help us out. Sounds crazy but seen that we are all in Def conf. and most have mutal threats like UF. I know it sounds crazzy but If I know UF was after a kid we didnt have a chance or didnt need as much as Bama or if we saw someone off the radar that Bama could use and get them to him before UF found out wouldnt that make since.

Jernigan also admits that the recent bad publicity at Florida has had a small effect on him. The Gator football program has had 30 players arrested since Urban Meyer took over in 2004.
“It definitely makes you wonder [what’s going on there],” Jernigan said.
