Previewing Florida State at Oklahoma On the Podcast

I was a guest on Allen Kenney's fantastic BlatantHomerism.com podcast to discuss OU.  He asks me questions about Florida State and I come back at him with some regarding Oklahoma and its less than impressive performance against Utah State.  We then break down the game.  It's a full hour and I recommend you check it out.

Listened to this last night. Great stuff all around. I hope Jones locks onto some receivers this weekend and our cornerbacks can create some picks. People should also avoid watching the Adrian Taylor video you referred to. Shocked he made it back as well.

Great Stuff.

Listening still now. OU is really running that much Nickel? Can’t help but think that will help FSU run the ball. Guess it will help cover the RB’s catching passes out of the backfield. Didn’t expect that.

Utah State ran almost all 4 and 5 wides

This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.

So I guess they really had no choice but

to run that much nickle. Makes sense.

Probably a smart thing to do

If OU’s biggest defensive weakness is in the secondary.

by fsu44 on Sep 9, 2010 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions

But 20 yards

a completion? With Nickle? Ruh Roh.

I meant for a team to force them to put an extra db in

That means they are playing to attack the weakness on the defense, rather than letting the defense play with personnel packages which feature more of their better players.

Right, got it now.

You are right. Smart of Utah State to exploit what they saw was advantageous match up.

Matters more per attempt not completion

This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.

True

9.5 ypa. But even that has to be encouraging.

from what little

I saw the guy throws a nice ball. Just not sure his surrounding cast is all that great.

He was

17/36. That isn’t all that great. But the ones that were made went for big yards. Without seeing the game have to wonder if the incompletes were because of good coverage or because Utah State just isn’t very good. Or both.

Jones

was 17/36 (crazy same as Utah St QB) but went for 6 yards per comp.

I'll have our preview up this afternoon and it'll encompass much of it.

This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.

Punting 85 yards is good

But he better get the hang time too. Kicking for distance only leads to out kicking coverage. Be an interesting match up.

Had the same thought re: Clemson.

Their punter had a ridiculous day, averaged 50+ and had like a 79(?) yarder.

These guys better be careful about out-kicking their coverage, in the literal sense. Would love to see Reid with 10-15 yards of open space in front of him.

I liked him where he was last week.

On the bench. The whole game. Repeat? Nah, but it would be an awesome stat. Powell 0 punts for 0 yards over two games because all he has to do is sit on the bench and drink powerade.

Hey Bud

I really enjoyed it and as your counterpart said it’s amazing the knowledge you’ve amassed. I know it’s a lot to run a blog but it would be really nice to have an FSU podcast instead the general nationwide coverage out there. If I were starting an FSU podcast, you’d be my guy.

Back in Tampa and loving it. Now, time to do something about this gator problem.

Like a weekly one?

Sure

Maybe something for 30 minutes or just to update people on current topics and maybe a weekly guest like a fellow blogger on SB nation. Something like what you just did but with you as the moderator.
