Eddie Gran Is NOT Going To The Florida Gators

via grfx.cstv.com

Florida State running back coach and ace recruiter Eddie Gran is not going to the Florida Gators. Rumors to the contrary, being spread by Gator websites, are false.  Noles247 caught up with Gran tonight, who was allowed to release a rare assistant-coach statement:

"I have not been contacted by anyone associated with the University of Florida regarding a coaching vacancy. I have no interest in taking another job, my family and I are happy in Tallahassee." -Eddie Gran

I can tell you that people at Florida State are very unhappy about this rumor and believe it is being spread by the Seminoles' biggest rival to derail Florida State's recruiting.  Recruiting has not picked up in Gainesville since Urban Meyer quit on the Gators.  At best, things are staying the same.

Wait I thought Jimbo was on his way to Baton Rouge??

These SEC shills crack me up! They just can’t stand the thought of a non-SEC team bringing in the top players. It drives them absolutely nuts!

They are likely to lose 2 of their commits to tOSU (Story and I forget who else), Muschamp has FAILED MISERABLY at recruiting since taking over as head coach and their biggest rival is winning the Powerball every other week. :)

I can't really give Golden a whole lot of credit for what he's done.

I think any respectable recruiter could’ve done it. He has time to land a few more guys and change my opinion. He needs to hurry though, a lot of them are committing elsewhere.

Not necessarily saying Muschamp’s done a better job. Put him at Miami and Golden at UF and I’m not sure there’s significant difference in how the classes are shaking out.

I know UM is desperate but seeing UF this desperate is something that really makes me smile

getting to the point where a line from a Gator reporter and nut lover is made that Gram is friends with Muschcamp from their time at Auburn and that UF is a better job then FSU he would be a great candidate and UF running with it as though hes going to UF.

The fact they have only 1 Rb signed so far this class while once upon a time their board had JWJ and Waisome and others on it who are now Noles over the gators. (i know NW isnt an RB) While we have what 3 RB coming in. Another great one in 2012. Freeman and JWJ coming in they are just trying to throw in Grams to make the recruits think twice which is total garbage.

Weiss was supposidly talking to O’leary the day or 2 before his commit showing him his ring while he was telling him he was all Nole

They are not used to being second fiddle to anyone never mind their own state. And they are desperate. Shows even more that FSu is doing things right and that none of the coaches unless its for some good OC, DC, or HC job in a big advancement to their career isn’t going to leave for the same job at a rival school to play against the players you coached and help build.

I know UF is garbage. But I am kinda shocked they are really falling to the UM level.

Their program is make or break next 3 years. They stay legit or go on a 6 or 7 year rebuild era like we just finished

A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt.

Make or break next 3 years? UF has just one bad recruiting seasonduring a coaching change and you think they might break? Did you see last years class? 17 espn 150s and half of them redshirted they will be just fine. Uf wont have a 6-7 rebuilding period bc we dont have a 90 year old coach that doesnt know how to retire holding us back….

This just goes to show how this last decade has skewered peoples perception

Yes UF has the most money. They always have. But in reality they are third in pecking order of this state. Always said it goes UM, FSU, then the Gators. With Miami not having an elite coach, although he doesn’t look horrible yet, FSU has moved to first. It literally took fU for both Miami and FSU to suck for them to dominate college football. The gayhores are done for a little bit. Don’t be surprised.

Roll Bass and War Ryno for me

by Mateo9399 on Jan 27, 2011 10:33 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Reports of UF's demise is exaggerated. Still not ready to count them out yet

People forget that the first recruiting class with Jimbo on board (‘07) was horrible, too. It comes with the territory of being a new guy who doesn’t have the institutional knowledge of all of Florida’s fertile recruiting grounds yet. He’s still developing relationships and learning how to talk to the HS coaches at the big schools.

Look for Muschamp to become more adept at recruiting when he finds his feet next year. In the meantime, UF will still improve if they can just develop the insane amount of talent already on their own bench.

Well, Fisher wasn't the head coach so comparing that class to Muschamp's isn't a good idea imo.

I wouldn’t compare Muschamp’s first class to Fisher’s class last year either though, since Fisher had been around awhile.

And UF’s staff doesn’t have a whole lot of familiarity with Florida? Maybe Muschamp from his SEC days and that guy they plucked from Miami. Who else? Don’t think they’ll struggle in year one but I don’t think it’s as simple as just giving them a year and everything being 100% next year.

You're right, it's not that simple

But Florida’s practically starting over from zero right now. They’ve replaced both coordinators as well as the head coach. And just today word has come out that Meyer’s legacy RChas been poached by OSU with just a week to go before NSD. That leaves only 2 position coaches from the Meyer era to provide continuity, and they have a total of 3 years in Gainesville between them. That’s a far cry from what either Meyer or Fisher got when they took over as HCs

I dont think UF will be recruiting at 100% in a year either, but they’re going to be lots more organized than they are right now. With the level of chaos UF has gone through this offseason, treading water with their recruiting class is still a good effort.

My not be perfectly applicable but,

shouldn’t we consider that Muschamp was hired on Dec 12. He chose to hire NFL coaches that were unavailable until their teams lost in the playoffs – seems to have assumed their names and resumes would be enough. The point is that he brought the lack of organization and inability to effectively recruit on himself. CJF, Trickett, Haggins did outstanding when understaffed. Obviously we’ll have to see how this staff does over the next year in order to more accurately evaluate them.

A side note: I’m curious as to if Drayton left simply because of a desire to be a part of the OSU staff. Wondering if anything internal a UF facilitated his leaving so abruptly …

by RRnole28 on Jan 28, 2011 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

Drayton's loss will be felt more in the short rather than long term.

He was probably a non-factor on this team following this season. As you pointed out, not many faces familiar with the state of Florida came in on this staff. Drayton’s retention was largely for that purpose, and I believe he knew that. Compound that with the idea that he is probably a big tehOSU fan and (boom) he’s gone.

Florida’s recruiting will improve next year mostly because these coaches will have been around and will know some people. But we all know that Drayton’s running game wasn’t all that strong. So did the Florida fan base. Thats why UF wanted to keep him on… for now. And thats probably why he took off when he got a good offer from a solid program.

Defeat Miami, 45-17. End Florida's win streak, 31-7. Win the ACC Atlantic. 10 win season. Chick-fil-A Bowl Champs, 26-17. Two wins over the top two teams in the SEC East. Nation's top recruiting class? The only thing that could make this year any better.

Fortunately I was in the aisle seat, though… but the stewardess discretely tapped me on the shoulder and motioned for me to come to the back of the plane – where do you think this story is going? get your minds out of the gutter – where she asked if I wanted to switch to a different seat.

I felt bad about making the person feel any shame about it so I stuck it out for the 30 minute flight. Glad it wasn’t a longer leg.

by pasadenanole22 on Jan 27, 2011 11:54 PM EST reply actions

So, is this correct?

This rumor started after uf RB coach and recruiting coordinator Stan Drayton left to become the WR coach at Ohio St.
http://www.alongtheolentangy.com/2011/1/27/1959506/its-official-stan-drayton-hired-as-wide-receivers-coach

It looks like he is a Buckeye guy, but is there any reason he would accept a job coaching out of his natural position (and I suppose a demotion of sorts, unless he’s also going to be OSU’s recruiting coordinator)? After all, I’m always hearing about how great it is to be at uf, that no one would ever leave, blah blah.

Is this just a guy taking a position at his “dream school” (I’m guessing; he’s from Ohio) or should we snicker a little at how things are going in hogtown? (I.e., is this a potentially negative thing for muscrat, weis, etc.?)

by Invictus13 on Jan 28, 2011 12:27 AM EST reply actions

Will is very new to the UF system but he sure does catch on quick. He’s already learned how to lie and cheat. His cardiac situation may change after this year. He needs to worry about his weed smokin kids rather than lie to recruits. Typical friggin gator. They all suck

by noleholla on Jan 28, 2011 7:05 AM EST reply actions

Two theories

A) This rumor is completely baseless and is a desperate attempt to help their recruiting efforts. My question is, who are they targeting with this conjecture? Are they STILL going after James Wilder?

B) UF has a position coach plucked and two recruits will likely leave with him. They decide they should do the same to mitigate the damage. Who better than Eddie Gran? Damage your in-state rival and grab a couple of your targets at the same time. If this was the case (which I agree with Bud and personally think there is a <5% chance this scenario happened) they probably called Gran to see if there was interest and he said “fack off”.

by Shooter McFrattin on Jan 28, 2011 7:50 AM EST reply actions

I assume there's zero truth to this rumor, but...

…Gran’s statement is just canned coach-speak.

“I have not been contacted” often means the negotiations are through an agent.

“I am happy here” is often true but is also often followed by a resignation. People can be happy and still leave if doing so is good for their career.

by movinonup on Jan 28, 2011 9:52 AM EST reply actions

as much as it pains me to say

I have to agree with you. I mean maybe Gran was just being nonchalant about the whole thing to mitigate panic. But regardless of whether this rumor was serious enough to warrant a stern response, I feel Gran should have been way more emphatic in his response. Like “there is ABSOLUTELY no truth to this rumor. I will NOT be leaving tallahassee for the position at UF and I have no desire to period” Something like that would have definitely eased my mind a little more

"We have to start over. We have to develop our own identity, our own chemistry, our own unity, our own vision of where we want to go...This is just the beginning. Because remember one thing – I tell you all the time: Boys do what they want to do. Champions do what they’ve got to do. " CJF

by FS4Nole on Jan 28, 2011 10:30 AM EST up reply actions

Gran was emphatic...via plantthespear.com and noles247...he said

" I havent been contacted by anyone associated with UF about a coaching vacancy. I HAVE NO INTREST IN TAKING ANOTHER JOB AND MY FAMILY AND I ARE HAPPY IN TALLAHASSEE….cant get more emphatic than that imo….

by Jerseynole on Jan 28, 2011 11:00 AM EST up reply actions

It can get way more emphatic than that, Jersey.

If he wanted to put a few more nails in the coffin, he could make it clear that (1) there’s no truth to this rumor, (2) neither he nor anyone associated with him has had any contact with UF and (3) he’s going to be at Florida State next year, period. The statement he released is much softer.

And this isn’t any kind of swat at Gran, it’s just a fact that coaches say this kind of stuff all the time and then resign the next week.

by movinonup on Jan 28, 2011 11:12 AM EST up reply actions

Nick Saban said he wasn't leaving the Dolphins the next season he's at Bama

If a coach wants to lie he can lie it dosen’t matter what statement they put out, you just have to take them at face value at some point. I doubt he’s going to come out and insult another University or something of that sort in a statement, he’s trying to be a head coach someday. The guy said he and his family are happy where they are at and he has no intrest in taking another job, that’s good enough for me. Espically considering how fast he put the statement out, usually coache’s and their agents lest this stuff sit out there for awhile in order to leverage a pay raise.

In this day and age, I have no idea WHAT to believe.

I just hope that he stays. I know that Florida can probably out-bid us for Gran’s talent, and Florida really needs an upgrade at that position anyway. Taking a guy with established recruiting ties in the state of Florida won’t hurt, either.

Hopefully we can get to a point financially where we can just give each position coach at least a 100k raise and forget about all this nonsense talk. But that is a fairy tale world that I live in… sigh

There have been several of these kind of staffs over the years. Most recently and the most relevant, Coach Saban’s staff at L.S.U. We are very lucky to have them now. Hope we can keep them together for a while, at least until we reach the mountain top again.

UF’s football strength and conditioning program is about to reach a level even the most fervent olympic style weight lifting programs would dare not dream.

The results are said to be staggering and the training is very cutting edge (only UF has it), something called “Blubbermetrics.” The program is verry hush hush at this time but from the intel I’ve gathered one of the exercises involes coach Weiss a rickshaw and the practice fields at UF, will post more info as I get it.

How long until....

Muffcramp is as hated or more than Spurrier and Meyer? I mean hated beyond the obligatory hate that comes with being Gata.

I like Muffcramp....

I love the originality of the nicknames given to opposing coaches. I laugh at ScUM fans calling Jimbo “Dumbo”. Very un-original and that so-called Dumbo beat dat ass 45-17.

Bimbo would be better....

but seeing as 99% of scUM fans didnt go to UM and are uneducated trash, how could one expect them to rhyme or spell. Too harsh? eh well, please see signature.
