Eagle in Atlanta -- atleagle.com: No ignoring offensive failure
As defenders and critics of Spaz get more entrenched in their respective stances, I suggest we look at the objective issues. The biggest is the failure of the offensive side of the ball under Spaz. In an era of video game scoring, BC remains unable to put points on the board. In 30 games against FBS opponents, Spaz's teams have only scored more than 20 points nine times. They are averaging over that time 18.5 against FBS opponents. BC has failed to exceed 20 points for nine-straight FBS games. We were fortunate that Spaz's first two teams used defense to cover up this glaring issue. That's not the case of late.

They returned to Glory, then left again.
Apparently, the hotel rates are still doable for a weekend, but housing prices are still way too expensive for either of them to move back.

It's about time HD called out Devonta Freeman

I don't understand why you guys are getting worked up about being #6
There are four teams with better records and one with the same record. The one with the same record beat a team with a better record and FSU has not done that. It’s really that simple.

He leads the league in INT's.
He put up good numbers the first 2 weeks because no one expected him to attempt more than 15 passes. Now there film on him and his inability to read a defense and he leads the league in INT’s.

A Rookie
starting from game 1 with an abbreviated off season will throw pics. my point was simply u dont throw 2 400 yrd games (one against) the superbowl champs on luck alone. he’s been up and down..but i think its safe to say he has a better skill set than tebow and has, so far produced more with less experience and coaching in the NFL.

Which actually reflects poorly on Tebow IMO. He’s been there two years. He’s had more of everything than Cam except starts.

Clint Trickett could very well aspire to that same role.
Would just need an offensive line that kept him off the turf for about 2.5 straight seasons.
He very well could be.
Trickett hasn’t had a chance to develop yet, though. Trickett in 2 years should look alot different than Trickett today. I’m talking about Trickett right now.
If Trickett starts after E.J. is gone, it’s because Winston is swinging a bat or is a complete bust.

I dont think will...
Not with Coker/Maguire/Winston on deck.
I am very interested in how Tricketts presence influences Jimbo when the time comes. Things we know
-He will know the playbook better than any other QB
-He will probably give us that “coach on the field” presence that CP7 gave us, which means getting the offense into the right play
-He can throw it around a ton…

on designed runs, the O
has a 1-man advantage that doesn’t exist when a RB runs.
Also, I want my QB to be able to do the following (which Trickett can’t):
1. avoid sacks & scramble while planting a stiff-arm, throwing off a defender off, etc.
2. take/deliver a hit
p.s. Coker has a stronger arm than Trick
Championship!
I understand how designed QB runs work. Everyone wants a QB that can do those things you listed. A mobile QB gives you advantages a guy like Trickett doesn’t, but we weren’t not running the ball against Wake because EJ wasn’t back there. Our Oline was garbage in that game.
p.s. And I think Coker will be our starting QB in 2013.

I want Tebow to start
Against a slate of teams. I like that Ponder got his start on the same day, but hate that ol teblow gets to go against a bottom-3 team and Ponder faces the best in the league.
I’ve wanted the Denver fans to get what they want so he can finally show what a crap release, inability to read a defense, and happy feet actually look like

I do not understand, could you be more specific?
There are several Caucasian analysts who also critique Tebow and do not think he can make in the NFL as a QB. These same analysts also break down film of Cam and feel his skill set will lead him to be successful in the league.
Hodge disagrees.
I already gave you two examples, just watch First Take, every black person on that show defends Cam and Vick but attacks Tebow, yet when they describe Tebow, the description could fit for any of the 3.

Well, I disagree with Skip because he thinks Tebow’s good. I don’t, but it makes me mad to see people who make the same mistakes that Tebow does, and don’t win football games get hyped up while Tebow gets crtitiqued to death. Gruden never has anything bad to say anyway, which gets annoying.

You should read that Barnwell article....
Tebow did help in the win but in terms of increasing their chance of winning the Strip-sack-fumble by DJ Williams changed that game.
Not to mention Tebow had little to do with recovering an onside kick.

So then why defend Vick and Cam?
Vick is on one of the most talented teams in the league and can’t even get to .500. I think he threw 3 INT’s against the freakin Bills. He’s never got to a Super Bowl, isn’t accurate at all and he’s considered by many to be one of the top 10 QB’s in the league??
"Nothing like a tight one." -Heather Cox
Vick
had an incredible seaons last yr. he deserves the top 10 ranking. THIS year his line is GARBAGE and he has been rushed and beat up. but he has been crticized for his pics this year?? and honestly…the answer to your question why? because they are both BETTER than t.jackson. the panthers added 2 tight ends ( who have been good but havent set the world on fire in NC) in the offseason, other wise the team was exactly the same as the one jimmy clausen led…that sucked last year. Cam has put up good numbers and played well with essentially the same team. compare completion percentage and yrds to tebow’s?? there’s no comparison. tebow, is a bad nfl qb. it just is what it is.

Btw Tom Brady threw 4 INTs vs those same Bills....
Using one game to make your point isn’t a good idea.
Ok
Brady and Vick each have 8 INT’s but Brady has 7 more TD’s, has a higher completion %, almost 600 more yards. And Vick has better weapons.

Not sure what your trying to argue here.
Im not saying Vick is better than Brady, I was objecting to your use of one game to talk about a players overall performance.
And by every measurement (statistically and mechanically) Cam Newton is a better QB than Tebow and projects as a better QB in the future. Its not a race based opinion. You’ll find MANY MANY NFL writers and analysts who do not think Tebow will be a good NFL QB. I disagree wholeheartedly that ESPNs black analysts are against Tebow because hes white. However I myself have noticed that many Tebow defenders are asking teams and analysts to do things for him that were never done for many QB with his same…..ummm “skillset”. “Change the entire offense for Tebow”, “run the option”, hell Skip Bayless thinks the Broncos should run a “spread no-huddle” (which is laughable for a QB with a 40% completion percentage).
I do not hate Tebow, I think hes a great person. But I dont think Cam Newton is a bad person either, but in the NFL its not about who the better person, its about who is a better player. Ben Rothlisberger is sleezy, but Tim Tebow will never be as good a player as him.
I never said Tebow was good.
Maybe they defend Cam and Vick because they are black? My original point is that you can’t say Tebow sucks because he does this that and the other, but then defend other QB’s who do the exact same thing.

This isn’t about Cam v. Tebow at all. It’s the talking heads that talk out of both sides of their necks. I feel your frustration. It’s why I hated the hard on they had for Favre. He was called a gunslinger for doing things other QBs were trashed for.

Favre had a rocket arm. Thus, the difference.
If all sports fandom is a form of emotional gambling, football is poker and hockey is Russian roulette.
Biggest difference between Favre & Romo
was Favre had Holmgren in his life for a period of time who when he was with him stopped all the tom-foolery and wasn’t afraid to chew him out.
In Atlanta, Farve had the side-show of Jerry Glanville & the smith family and post-Holmgren, no one was brave enough to call him out on "gunslinger’ stuff and poor footwork.
Holmgren was a offensive minded task master who was GREAT for his career and cleaned up a lot of his bad habits.
Seminole Game Day -- "All the trash talkin' stops, when the spear drops."
It wasn't just longevity.
If we want to talk about magic for one game, just go back to college when Favre beat the Noles like a red headed step child when our team should have crushed Southern Misissippi. That was not the only time when he made the difference, but it should bear more weight on this site. I still hate that game. When he was on, he was special. IMO it was not just that he was gratuitously offered enough chances to play so that he eventually put up great numbers over time.
I didnt mention Cam at all in my last post.....
I was just asking you to name these QBs “who do the same things”. Because you wont find any.
And in terms of accuracy (only since you brought it up). Newton has attempted 252 passes and completed 60.3% of his passes as a rookie. Tebow in 2 years has 117 attempts and completed 48.7% of his passes (45% completion pct this year).
Cam is accurate, Tebow is not.
Again.
My problem is Tim Tebow for WHATEVER reasons gets afforded opportunities that others do not. I dont even think its race based I just dont know what it is.
But at this point Tebow is what he his; an inaccurate scrambling QB who has shown no ability to consistently read defense, make good decisions, step into throws under pressure or make the correct checks at the line. QBs that have been drafted that have done all of these things have NEVER been given the leeway that Tebow seems to have.
Its odd, I dont get it and it frankly annoys me, that his character is brought up time and time again rather than his in game performance.
Deep down, you know what it is.......
My problem is Tim Tebow for WHATEVER reasons gets afforded opportunities that others do not. I dont even think its race based I just dont know what it is.
Tebow sells jerseys and tickets for a horrible team who invested too much money into him as a first round pick. They’re trying to get some of their money back.

You'd get a chance to start too if the choice were between you and Kyle Orton
I wouldn’t worry. The NFL’s favorite game with new QBs is “He’s not a bust, but…” and Tebow’s career is going right according to script.
Look at it:
The year to “learn the system while working on his mechanics”,
the pressure-free mop up duty,
the early struggles,
the encouraging win against the league’s worst team.
Now here’s the next step, the promising first bit of ESPN coverage.
Next will come a couple of starts against better teams where he will struggle and Orton will have to come to the rescue. The verdict will be “he’s still got some things to work on”, and back to the bench he’ll go.
Pretty soon, the Broncos will pick up another veteran QB in a trade and, ala Matt Leinart, start him over Tebow. That’s when you’ll know that his career is officially over.

I just get annoyed that on a football show, or when discussing Tim Tebow the FIRST thing mentioned is “Ya know, hes such a great guy…..”. That maybe true but thats not what were talking about.
Lets talk about him missing wide open guys, not stepping into throws, having AWFUL mechanics, not be able to read defenses, etc. Maybe Cam Newton isnt a good person (he very will could be since NONE of us actually know him) but he has shown the ability to do all of those things I just mentioned in the NFL. Good story on JR in Sports Illustrated. Seems he suffers from sleep apnea and this caused most of his problems.

I've honestly stopped reading ESPN's ACC blog.
And I hate myself much much less than I use to since I stopped reading it. It provides no analysis or interesting/unique takes on anything of substance. To add injury to insult, I use to even post and interact with mouth breathers in the comment section. It just isn’t worth it. I’ll take a peek if something is linked on this site (like today), but even then the chances of me clicking the link is 50/50.

It sucks
to have a front-loaded schedule. NC State will only give us trouble if we play stupid football. If I remember correctly, this a team that has been forced to play walk-ons on the defensive line. We should be 6-3 heading into the Miami game and 8-3 heading into the UF game. I think we have a solid chance of winning out the rest of the way.

Another team that schemes all year to beat us to get their marquee win. I was fine with losing to OU and Clemson considering the circumstances, but the Wake loss still makes me sick to my stomach. I hate the stupid effing look on Tom OBrien’s face every year when we lose. If I have to look at it again, I’m going to break my tv and just listen to radio broadcasts from now on.

I think she's clearly ranking us low
Because we have no shot at winning our division. Every team above us can still win its division, but we have two losses and I believe Clemson only has two more ACC games including Wake Forest. This precludes us correct?
Three games left for Clemson, but essentially yes.
If all sports fandom is a form of emotional gambling, football is poker and hockey is Russian roulette.
Is there any real chance we end up in the Chick-Fil-A bowl?
The other division is a mess right now. So much so they could send a 2 loss team to the title game. Assuming Clemson wins out and Wake loses a couple more, we could be the second best (at least by looks/record) team in the ACC if we win out.
hmmmm interesting question.
FSU would travel well there…….but I’m not sure they would take a 3 loss team, but I think if we win the rest of our games by a larger margin I could see it happening.
by NOLEisticscience on Oct 25, 2011 1:18 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
That's true.
If we win out (I know that is far from a given) I think we would be a pretty attractive selection. And since it is verse an SEC team our fans would be pretty excited. I know I would travel to see us play any SEC team.
My thoughts exactly
Saw the projection of VT vs. Auburn and got excited thinking about a matchup with them.
by SteelerNole21 on Oct 25, 2011 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Ditto, would love to play Auburn.
If their QB situation remains the same, our defense would eat their lunch. UF’s D is clearly a level down from ours thus far and they even had Auburn stymied on their home field for the majority of the game, and if it weren’t for horrific special teams, they might have fought to the death to a zero-zero tie.
Whether Wake actually finishes ahead of us is mostly irrelevant
As long as FSU finishes strong (9-3, maybe even 8-4), they should be on the table for the CFA bowl. The only real competition for that bowl will be Clem and VT. Best case scenario for making this bowl is Clem winning out and losing ACCCG to VT. That would theoretically give ACC 2 BCS teams and almost assure an 8-4+ FSU of the CFA Bowl.
The other best hope for that bowl is FSU winning out and not making the ACCCG with a record of 8-4 or worse.

Maybe the odds wouldn’t be in my favor. Then the ACC would get two BCS bowls, right? Most likely. At that point I hope Clemson loses again. And if it’s to Boise State or someone like Rutgers (whoever is the Big East Champ) then GREAT.

Are you crapping me?
I will admit I never saw a lot of film on the guy, but I remembered him being like a 4.8 guy or so on most of the scouting stuff I saw in h.s. on Coker and he’s a big guy, like 6-5, 225 or so if I recall.
So are you being sarcastic, or is he really a mobile guy? I assumed he was a prototypical pocket passer, i.e. Trickett with NFL size.
They ran an option system.
That’s why he was under the radar. He ran more than he threw. I may recall that they shifted towards a pass-oriented offense last year, though.
Also think he was a fairly high-level basketball player. Good athlete.
He is capable of being much more than a pocket passer.
FSU will not be scared to run option and zone reads with him. He’s not fast, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t mobile…
