Michael.
What’s the skinny with Sanders? Will he leave the state? Looks like he still has several schools in the running. Thanks.
He just named a top 4 of FSU/Bama/OKState/Stanford to Justin Hopkins(247sports)
I think it will be very hard to turn down OK State with how effective they are at running the ball and team success. FSU is def in the race though. His last school that he visited was Alabama.

c'mon now, he's a cowboy, if we think he is going anywhere else we're crazy.
no to mention…take a look at that facility….. thanks T Boone!

It’s this new thing going around campus lately-I think it’s known by the term…"winning". I hear it’s really addictive and the real hardcore victory junkies can smell it from all the way across the nation."

He’s definitely faster than most of his competition. His double foot cuts aren’t bad

I'll take Pender all day.
BSJ would just be a bonus.

IMO
those highlights exemplify what people have been saying about him all along. Decent player, but very poor competition. Some awful tackling in those clips and the poor competition makes it hard to evaluate his game speed. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him in an All star game.
Yeah I have to say that I am less of a fan
than I was this time last year. He is a decent player for sure, but definitely not elite. He doesn’t seem to have top end speed that would make him a true home run threat in college (you can tell by how he is looking back on a few long runs. He should think: once I have passed them, they have no shot) He definitely is not a power back, though I really did like what he could do in the red zone. He does pretty well in the open field, which he manages to get into a lot. I liked his blocks a few times, he is trying to make the right play, going after multiple blocks on long runs for other players, plus a nice crack-back block on a punt return (p.s. can someone tell me if I used crack-back correctly here) and a decent punt return himself. His cutback ability and vision were about the same, which is pretty good. There were a couple intangible good character qualities I saw even on the highlight tape: He blocked hard for other teammates on their plays (certainly better than his other teammates), he high-fived with literally every teammate on a couple of plays, he always tossed the ball to the referee, didn’t really celebrate too hard. He seems like a team player, which is nice. He had a similar number of plays that I did not expect him to make and a similar number that were simply not really highlights.
Here is what it boils down to for me, if you are not a power back and you lack top end speed, you probably shouldn’t be playing for FSU, though if I had to make an exception for that rule, Barry Sanders Jr. would be tough to pass up. He is a pretty good, decently well rounded back, but he doesn’t do anything at an elite level, in my opinion. He is a 1C back so I wouldn’t be surprised if we took him if he wanted in.
I pretty much agree with your thoughts, but your conclusion seems flawed
Here is what it boils down to for me, if you are not a power back and you lack top end speed, you probably shouldn’t be playing for FSU
This couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, the offense is more predicated on having someone who is a little bit of both and not exclusively one or the other. But the most important factor is vision and understanding the constant evolution of plays.
For instance, Antone Smith was speedy, with very little power. He was terrible.
Debrale Smiley is power only, yet hasn’t really played much at all. Remember he was a legendary running back in Georgia before college.
JWJ is pretty much power only, yet has yet to play much.
Jermaine Thomas lacks top end speed and is not a power back, but has started most of his career at FSU.
Devonte Freeman is not a power back nor does he have great speed, but he may be the best RB FSU has had in many years.
Basically, it should boil down to whether or not he has the burst and vision to play in a zone offense, not whether he has elite speed or elite power.

He probably wants to be the man wherever he goes
He would be behind Wilder and Freeman for at least two years (does he graduate in 2012 or 2013?), plus our other RBs who may beat him out. It may be in his best interest to go somewhere else.
Not sure Wilder would be in that conversation anymore.
With Freeman entrenched, and Pender and Sanders Jr. coming in, it’d be difficult for the coaches not to move Wilder over to LB. I know he’s a different sort of back, but I just don’t think he’d be satisfied only getting goalline and short yardage carries, nor would the coaches want to squander that sort of talent.
he's not going to be a feature back at Bama either and probably not at Stanfrod
both of those teams pound the football in pro sets and bama rotates backs as much as anybody not named LSU.
I would love to sign Pender and Sanders Jr.
Not sure how the future RB recruiting stacks up (2013, 2014 etc.). If it’s not good, you get 2 big time backs to go along with Freeman and Wilder being blocked for by Beverley. Not bad!
