Charlie Weis might be overrated
But I think Muschamp is the real deal. He’ll have them competing at a high level again by at least 2013 (UF fans don’t wanna hear that though). That’s assuming he can continue to recruit like Meyer’s UF. If they take a dive for another year and their recruiting suffers that may open things up a bit for Miami, as unlikely as that seems.
Several factors
Partially a brutal October schedule, where the most winnable game they played was a road game against the defending national champs. Partially a result of key injuries at already thin positions. They’re also a young team that hasn’t had a home game since Alabama.
But the biggest reason is that the talent just isn’t up to normal UF standards. And the talent they do have is completely mismatched. Their backs and linemen are build for a spread attack, but their QBs are pure pro-style guys. The receivers are average (at best) for a BCS conference team. And while Jordan Reed is a major threat, they sometimes struggle to get him the ball. Defensively they’re actually pretty solid, though by no means great. The question that gets me: how does a program like Florida consistently fail to find a decent kicker?
