Nothing new on FSU's injury report. Rashad Greene is "probable." If he's iffy, I bet they hold him out.
What did BC coach Frank Spaziani have to say about Florida State?
What jumps out at you about Florida State? "When you look at them, they look like the team that people were touting as national champions. That’s what they look like. I don’t see a weakness on them. They’re big, fast, athletic, well-coached, play great defense, offensively are excellent and have a great kicking game. They have it all."
And Tom O'Brien? After a 34-0 whipping?
"They’re better than advertised. They’re back to where they were. That’s the best Florida State defense I’ve seen since eight or nine years ago. They’re back to that type of defense. You could sense it looking at tape, but certainly in person. It’s because they play a lot of people. They rotate four or five linebackers. They rotate eight or nine down guys. They’ve got all kinds of guys in the secondary that play. That was certainly a different defense than we’ve played, or I’ve played, in the last five or six years."

Love the quotes from BC and NCSU coaches.
Too bad about the breaks early in the season. Could have been a very different year.
I was thinking the same thing.
They kinda make me sick though. I always start thinking what could of been.
but the future is bright - and I have to agree - attending the last two games its was Deja Vu all over again from the the 90s
the way the D played
in some ways, injuries have aided FSU's chances to be really great in 2012
For example:
If Datko and Spurlock had not gotten hurt, FSU’s OL was looking at replacing 3 starters next spring. Instead, Hart is getting starting experience along with Faircloth and if he gets a medical hardship, Datko returns in 2012. Instead of replacing three starters, FSU gets five back.
The rash of injuries at WR has allowed a great deal of depth to develop there
CT’s back injury opened up more reps this season for Freeman and WIlder (though tempered a bit with JT’s resurgance coinciding).
McDaniels getting knocked out permitted more playing time for Jernigan, experience that can only help him learn and be even more of a factor next season.

Good points here
Combine this with the rumored subpar health of the corners and there’s a potential to bring XR back along with Reid, although he should never have considered leaving in the first place.
>>---l>
Definitely a blessing in disguise....
Especially at the O-line and WR position. It’s great to see that we are finally getting back to recruiting young guys that already know how to play football and compete atleast on a basic level.
you can add:
Both QB’s getting experience and Los getting some time at kickoff returns.
Good stuff all around. Just sucks now….what could have been?

That is why I am hoping for a good bowl game matchup....to get a bit of a second chance at a first impression.
Bud was talking about how if there were 30 + teams better than FSU then this must be a fantastic year of college football. This got me looking at each of the teams and how we would probably fair against them. I only see about 6 that could be sure losses but maybe I am back on the kool aid. If we match up against a good ND team or UGA or someone who is considered “good team with bad circumstances”, and beat them, it will at least make this year a great building year for next year.
you're right...
There aren’t 10 teams in College Football that could hang with us when we are 100%…
My list in no particular order:
1) Alabama
2) LSU
3) Oklahoma
4) Oklahoma State
5) Stanford
6) Boise State
1-3 would be brutal slug fests. I think 4-6 would be more of a shoot-out but we could definitely win because our defense is ridiculously good.
I actually would like for us to play Boise State one of these days.
Our Defense would absolutely destroy boise

Wait till you see next years defence.
I already had a dream about playing ND in the bowl. I have a problem.
I really wish we could sneak into the Chik Bowl again against a SEC team (UGA Please!)
Everybody relax, I'm here.

I couldn't see the game. Thus, a nightmare.
I was in some chinese restaurant and did not know what was going in the game.
Everybody relax, I'm here.
Hey do you think we could see more of Prior and JWJ
in the UF game because of how bad their D is against a power back. Then again our Oline isn’t much either but I just thought it might be a good idea especially after watching Georgia’s running back, Richardson, LSU’s, etc.
I personally love to see the attitude from JWJ
Everythime he gets the ball he powers out extra yards and pops right back up almost running back to say “gimme the ball again”
ya i agree...
the same with Karlos Williams. He is so hungry to hit somebody. Those two are going to be awesome.

Yeah, some of the combined rankings are puzzling.
the two are done on different numerical scales, so I’m not sure exactly how they combine them.

The presumption would be that when you're good at one aspect, you're not as good as the other.
So a “balanced” attack would be over the individual rankings, while a less-balanced one would fall between…
Miami has the #1 offense?
I’ve been watching some of their games, but I guess I just didnt pay that much attention.
Yeah.
They’re at #6 offense in the combined ranking (F/+).

Also unmentioned is that Harris's pick numbers are WAY down from last year.
That’s the primary reason why Miami’s gotten the boost they have.
Fewer picks means fewer offensive drives end prematurely, which improves the drive-based FEI score drastically. It also means many more successful scoring drives on offense, which also improves FEI drastically.

Read the Big East Expansion article if you haven't yet
It’s pure comedy gold. They believe that they will keep their automatic BCS bid after 2013 because the NCAA will be afraid to take it away from the service academies after they have a shot to get it for two years. I spit water out of my nose after reading that. The comments are also quite fantastic.
I hate all the Expansion crap.. I agree NoleOrNever
see Boise is taking another easy road. If they wanted to be respected and think they are so good why don’t the join a power conference. They move from the WAC to the Mtn West who has …….um nobody.now trying the Big East who is trying to bring teams like Air Force. They are a joke. They should have tried to join the PAC 12 if they wanted to get some type of repectable schedule. Hell even the Big 12 when they did all of their switching around. For them to try to join the Big East with the compition that is there now I’m like NoleOrNever I spit all my water out. Tell them to join a conference with at least SOME big boys football teams.
by NOLEisticscience on Nov 2, 2011 11:42 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
At least in the PAC 12 they would not have to travel as far as they do trying to join the Big East
I am sure the PAC 12 would have at least listened to their bid to join another conference. Not unless I missed a few weeks of something had Boise tried to join the PAC 12 when they anounced they were going to expand…………. At this rate there will always be a switching of conference merry-go-round going on. Its getting to the point its like a bunch of highschool girl gossip.
by NOLEisticscience on Nov 2, 2011 11:50 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Boise's stadium only holds 33,500.
They also are ranked relatively poorly academically, if I’m not mistaken. I don’t think many school presidents seriously considered Boise St in the PAC 12
Poor academics and only good in football
Boise St can’t offer a complete package to attract the PAC 12 or Big XII. There best bet would be to keep the MWC intact, convince BYU and Houston to join the conference and argue for a AQ status for the MWC.
If they can, Utah could return to the MWC since they can’t compete in the PAC 12. PAC 12 could go after Fresno State to keep their conference whole.

They won't be invited to join a power conference
They don’t bring anything to the table except recent success and a good team. That doesn’t cut it.
Shot a Gator in Jean Shorts just to watch him die.
I don't so much hate the expansion stuff
I just don’t know how inviting a teams from the west coast helps the Big East or those teams. As someone said below, Boise needs to stick with the MWC and try to strengthen it. It seems really dumb to me to fly all the way across the U.S. for a bunch of games in a conference that SHOULD NOT have a BCS auto-bid any longer after just a couple more years.
Boise will never join a big boy conference
The academic standards of said conferences would cut off their little pipeline to the kids who couldn’t get into the CA or TX schools.
Their 6-year graduation rate is 28%.

AND who knows how much they are going to be willing to invest in football from here on out after this embarrassment. They like to believe they are above that kind of thing in Chapel Hill. They are wrong, but they like to believe it.

Back-sass, I like it!
It cracks me up how many TarHeel fans I’ve talked to who think Petersen is going to be a sure thing for them. Delusional at best and you can tell they know absolutely nothing about the guy… he’s just a big name to them.
I think Petersen will be at Boise for a looooong time. The only thing I can see dislodging him is if it becomes impossible for Boise to be in the MNC discussion due to conference realignment or potentially a playoff system down the line. Then I could see him leaving. Otherwise, dude is dug into Boise like a tick.

Thanks for posting the UNC coach search link
The wine and cheese crowd is always good for a laugh. They are planning to replace Withers who will finish the season at 8-4 or maybe even 9-3, a guy who took chicken you know what and turned into chicken salad, with the likes of Skip “I’m finishing last in the conference” Holtz or the sweaty guy from Miami? Really?
And the dream candidate is Chris Peterson? They do know that his secret to luring talent to Boise, Idaho is the fact that many of the recruits are partial qualifers, who weren’t able to get into major conference schools, right?
I was almost worried they would actually get someone in who would keep them competitive. Looks like we dodge a bullet regardless of the outcome.
So I guess this probably benefits the Tech teams and teams in the Carolinas the most?
No, the best part is that Golden would want to leave Miami for UNC since the NCAA is about to hammer Miami.
Naive much?
