2013 lineman Maquedius Bain commits to Florida State
6'5" 280+, moves well, could play offensive or defensive tackle at the next level. Plays more defense now and that is likely where he will end up. Also a teammate at University School (Davie, FL) of 2013 stud WR Jordan Cunningham. Bain is FSU's third commitment for the 2013 class.
Photos here show he is a well-built kid.
He's also the cousin of FSU OT Bobby Hart (or this might just be slang).

was he on the radar?
not that there has been a lot of 2013 talk yet, but i dont recall his name ever being mentioned
Just got done talking to a guy who watches a lot of SoFla ball and said Bain emerged this year more.

I'd seen the name before somewhere as a DT of interest.

FSU already has Austin Golson (very good OT prospect) and is heavily involved with Laremy Tunsil (Timmy Jernigan’s HS)— the #1 OT in the country, both of the 2013 class.

Tunsil is my biggest want/need for the 2013 (dependent upon Winston staying at FSU)

Good point
If Tunsil does not commit to FSU after his former teammate plays here and his HC played here, I will be extremely disappointed.

I know this.
But DT is probably the least of our worries right now and OL recruiting (2012) isn’t so hot. Another body on the OL sounds better then another DT.

True
But I’ll add this point…..within the community there is a long history with FSU….. Reinard Wilson, Kendell Pope, Jerome Carter, Brian Allen and Timmy Jernigan.
Kendell pope was a bad little man......
Loved him and Michael Boulware back then.

This is why I read these posts.
Thanks for the information. However, I bet those turkeys down in G’ville could also name a few from the area that turned south on us.
Not Bud
but he named us his leader a few months ago. I think his mom likes the Gators though. You have to think our subpar OL recruiting this year (so far) and the Gators’ strong OL class has to help us.
by newdynastynole on Nov 9, 2011 2:48 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
Is it just me
Or does anyone else believe that this “subpar” year in O line recruiting isn’t as much of Trick’s fault as some would like to attribute? I mean we pulled in either the nations best (or 2nd best, if you’re a Texas homer) o-line class last year, then had a rash of injuries and the Prestwood transfer. Seems to me that o-line wasn’t going to be the focus of the class which is why we were putting most of our eggs in just a couple of baskets. Just my 2 cents.
I do not blame Trickett for recruiting. All the coaches have an input in the process. The position coaches do not recruit for their position specifically, but rather a geographic territory. He has developed the players we have brought in tremendously. We just needed more numbers the years prior to this most recent class.
by newdynastynole on Nov 9, 2011 5:31 PM EST up reply actions
yes but
position coaches do assist the coaches with geographic responsibility (so each prospect is targetted by both the coach with geographic responsibility AND to a lesser extent the position coach when that’s different) PLUS the position coaches aid in scouting potential targets (which may just involve reviewing film). While I tend to agree on not putting so much blame on Trickett, let’s not swing the pendulum so far the other way as to be misleading.
But I would assume the coach responsible for a geography bears a big brunt of the responsiblity in aiding the character evaluation process, as well as gauging the likelihood of a prospect getting homesick or likely to transfer (like Prestwood).
by Wild@Heart Nole on Nov 9, 2011 5:51 PM EST up reply actions
Wild
This sums things up excellently, I believe, with regards to Trickett and how we’re recruiting the O-Line. Your summary and my belief go out the window if we continue to whiff (last year aside) on O-Line classes. An aside: North Carolina was another school, if I recall correctly, that had an O-Line class comparable to ours or at least in the same sphere.
Um, but 3 of the last 4 OL classes have been subpar.
Last year’s good class doesn’t explain the other 3 away.

Are you typing from prison
because Steve Austin bested you, sending you to the slammer where you belong? It’s the only explanation for your feelings that makes sense.
Nope, I hated Steven Austin and so did everyone in my family.
He was so effin lame. He was just a dude with jorts and a leather…a leather…vest? Lame.
Anyway, guys like Steve Austin KILLED the type of wrestler that I used to like. The gimmick heavy types like Ultimate Warrior, Undertaker, Tatanka, Kamala. Steve Austin spelled the end of that awesome era and I will hate him forever for it. Besides, let’s face it…if the fights weren’t scripted, Steve Austin would’ve got his but handed to him by most of the guys he “fought.”
I referred to Steve Austin,
the $6 Million Man. Perhaps that is not who Noles 2012 was referring to…
yeah, I realized that after finally noticing that no one referred to him as stone cold...
Oh well. It was a good excuse for me to rant about one of my least favorite wrestlers of all time.
The Ultimate Warrior was the greatest. Pure crazy, but the greatest.
And Tatanka was bad-ass in his time too. Man this brings me back…

I remember Miami signed a huge kid by the name of Bain several years back...
Maybe even early 2000s…. any relation to this guy?
None that I know of, but I had read a little bit about him earlier.
We’ll have to see how he develops. Glad FSU’s getting ahead in 2013.

he was in the class of 2003. He was a teammate of RB Tyrone Moss. I believe Bain had a cup of coffee in the NFL.

I like to read "great kid". Jimbo has recruited so few jerks, which is refreshing after our early-mid 2000's recruiting gambles.
Wow
Kid’s got some good weight on him. Not much for our strength and conditioning coach to mold. Speaking of; What is the name of the S&C coach who jumps up and down with papers in his hands almost every down?

Kid is a beast!
Love the bloodlines with bobby hart, hopefully we can start a family tradition. This kid will keep getting better and become this year’s NLS.
I find it interesting that he and jordan cunningham are teammates… Has anyone heard where we stand with cunningham? He is near the top of my 2013 WR wish list.
Also, i could be wrong, but i believe maquedius bain is a fairly successful basketball player. I could be mixing that up with someone else, but its not like thats a very common name lol.

He could be a Round Mound of Rebound...?
Or, how tall was that wide-body that played for Pitt (memory lapse) a couple seasons back?
6'7" (Dujuan Blair)
and he’s tall enough to be in the regular rotation for the Spurs.
"The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary." Vince Lombardi

That's him, for sure... but I doubted that height and looked it up.
http://www.nbadraft.net/node/6151
Says he was 6’5-1/4 without shoes.. which seems a little more accurate based on seeing him at the TLCCC (which, by the way, was the most physical basketball game I’ve ever witnessed).
Bain is truthfully only like 6’4, I’d guess, but that’s close enough to suggest he could still be effective with all that bulk. Not to mention he could still be growing.
Of course, all of this is irrelevant because I doubt he’ll play both ways. But fun to speculate.
If he had Blair's game it wouldn't matter if he was 6'2,
he’d be a big time hoops prospect.

U school plays with just a turrible, turrible class of competition.
Just something to keep in mind.
Nevertheless, I’m very pleased that Jimbo is getting recruits to commit so early! It’s one of the things I’ve envied about what Mack Brown can do at Texas, lock down players at a young age and then reel in monster recruiting classes consistently. The earlier and earlier we can get to these guys, the better.
Video of Bain
IMO.. not very impressive. he just looks bigger than everyone he plays against. Plays way too high (obviously coaching can fix this). But, you cannot teach size/athleticism he he seems to have those
