Around SBN: FSU To Big 12 'Inevitable,' According To Report

6'5" 280+, moves well, could play offensive or defensive tackle at the next level. Plays more defense now and that is likely where he will end up. Also a teammate at University School (Davie, FL) of 2013 stud WR Jordan Cunningham. Bain is FSU's third commitment for the 2013 class.

Photos here show he is a well-built kid.

He's also the cousin of FSU OT Bobby Hart (or this might just be slang).

Tunsil is my biggest want/need for the 2013 (dependent upon Winston staying at FSU)

by newdynastynole on Nov 9, 2011 2:06 PM EST up reply actions

Good point

If Tunsil does not commit to FSU after his former teammate plays here and his HC played here, I will be extremely disappointed.

I know this.

But DT is probably the least of our worries right now and OL recruiting (2012) isn’t so hot. Another body on the OL sounds better then another DT.

True

But I’ll add this point…..within the community there is a long history with FSU….. Reinard Wilson, Kendell Pope, Jerome Carter, Brian Allen and Timmy Jernigan.

Kendell pope was a bad little man......

Loved him and Michael Boulware back then.

but he named us his leader a few months ago. I think his mom likes the Gators though. You have to think our subpar OL recruiting this year (so far) and the Gators’ strong OL class has to help us.

Yep

Tomahawk Nation Nole-Holds-Barred Analysis of FSU Sports!

by Bud Elliott on Nov 9, 2011 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

Is it just me

Or does anyone else believe that this “subpar” year in O line recruiting isn’t as much of Trick’s fault as some would like to attribute? I mean we pulled in either the nations best (or 2nd best, if you’re a Texas homer) o-line class last year, then had a rash of injuries and the Prestwood transfer. Seems to me that o-line wasn’t going to be the focus of the class which is why we were putting most of our eggs in just a couple of baskets. Just my 2 cents.

by GranMarino on Nov 9, 2011 5:29 PM EST up reply actions

I do not blame Trickett for recruiting. All the coaches have an input in the process. The position coaches do not recruit for their position specifically, but rather a geographic territory. He has developed the players we have brought in tremendously. We just needed more numbers the years prior to this most recent class.

by newdynastynole on Nov 9, 2011 5:31 PM EST up reply actions

yes but

position coaches do assist the coaches with geographic responsibility (so each prospect is targetted by both the coach with geographic responsibility AND to a lesser extent the position coach when that’s different) PLUS the position coaches aid in scouting potential targets (which may just involve reviewing film). While I tend to agree on not putting so much blame on Trickett, let’s not swing the pendulum so far the other way as to be misleading.

But I would assume the coach responsible for a geography bears a big brunt of the responsiblity in aiding the character evaluation process, as well as gauging the likelihood of a prospect getting homesick or likely to transfer (like Prestwood).

by Wild@Heart Nole on Nov 9, 2011 5:51 PM EST up reply actions

Wild

This sums things up excellently, I believe, with regards to Trickett and how we’re recruiting the O-Line. Your summary and my belief go out the window if we continue to whiff (last year aside) on O-Line classes. An aside: North Carolina was another school, if I recall correctly, that had an O-Line class comparable to ours or at least in the same sphere.

by SolidNole on Nov 9, 2011 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

Um, but 3 of the last 4 OL classes have been subpar.

Last year’s good class doesn’t explain the other 3 away.

That's him, for sure... but I doubted that height and looked it up.

http://www.nbadraft.net/node/6151

Says he was 6’5-1/4 without shoes.. which seems a little more accurate based on seeing him at the TLCCC (which, by the way, was the most physical basketball game I’ve ever witnessed).

Bain is truthfully only like 6’4, I’d guess, but that’s close enough to suggest he could still be effective with all that bulk. Not to mention he could still be growing.

Of course, all of this is irrelevant because I doubt he’ll play both ways. But fun to speculate.

Nevertheless, I’m very pleased that Jimbo is getting recruits to commit so early! The earlier and earlier we can get to these guys, the better.
