The idea that Jimbo needs to let go of playcalling go and hire or allow someone else assume that responsibility, to me doesnt make sense for a coach that trying to develop a program and lay a concrete foundation. Jimbo doesnt want Florida State to become the next Clemson or Aurburn where you look at those programs, they rely so much on a good hire of a assistant that it makes or break their program year in and year out. Their great one season one season next season you've wondering what happen what to their program. A good assistants should be clamoring to come coach at your school not because you have good player (which you should have) but because they know that their going to be develop into great coordinators and potential head coaches. Florida State needs to become a football power again and you cant do that by hiring offensive coordinators like Chad Morris or the Gus Malzahans of the world, look at what they mean to those programs if Chad Morris left Clemson, their left searching for another offensive mind who may not fit with your staff or players, and you can see the state that Auburn is in, which is a total mess.Jimbo is trying develop James Coley into an offensive coordinator while developing others on the offensive staff and thats what big time programs do. Look at all the coaches Nick Saban has develop MIke Dantoni , Muschamp, and the Kirby Smart's of the world. To be a big time program you've got to attract potential great assistants. Big time programs have that next assisstant ready to step up after what one great coach leaves for a head coaching position. Jimbo knows this and it starts with developments of Coley, Craig, and Dawsey. Those guys have have all the tools you need to be great coordinators and hopefully head coaches. They all are hard workers on the recruiting trail and all are young guys working with a great offensive mind like Jimbo. We as Florida State fans shouldn't be scared when it comes to assistant coaches leaving, we should be like "next guy up." Does Jimbo need to delegate of course, maybe allow Mark Stoops do some speaking engagements or James Coley, instead of always being the face of the program. Maybe you allow a Mark Stoops run a couple practices or allow James Coley to run offensive practices a couple times a year. Nothing wrong with being hands-on because Jimbo has produced result in the two years he's been head coach. While some would say this year was a disappointment, I think FSU is on track to have another nice decade. We now have play-makers on this team who are becoming leaders such the Joyner and Werners of the world. Since Jimbo has taken over were now relevant with recruits and the media. Jimbo hands on approach does make it easy for us when it comes to recruiting, because he is the hardest worker on the satff when comes to evaluating talent and offering them first. To be an assistant coach under Jimbo should be a privilege not just another job and thats what a true program is.
Jimbo has shown that he is willing to develop a true team, not just one side of the ball unlike most offensive minded head coaches such as, Charlie Weis who left Notre Dame with very little when it came to the defensive side of the ball. There isn't an offensive coach who recruits defensive players like Jimbo and because of that reason, the defensive coordinator position for FSU will always be a very attractive job. Jimbo does needs to learn how to be more of a head football coach not so in gulfed with the offense during games. Maybe he should allow Coley to actually talk to the QB's or Craig instead of him yelling at the QB after every play. I would love to see Jimbo start talking to other players on the sideline instead of just the offensive players. I would like to see him become more head coach like, more of a manger of his players thats what attracts recruits. They understand they playing for thier head coach not just thier position coach. Les Miles and Nick Saban does this better than any coach in the country every player on thier roster is accountable to them during games and pretty sure during practices. Nick Saban always talking to his QB or RB, not just his defensive players. Jimbo has to get thier but hiring someone from the outside is crazy but developing the guys on your staff to do the things that will free him up to be more head coach like is the mark of a briliant head coach. The foundation has to be layed and I believe Jimbo is doing just that.
Sorry about the bad grammar, and sentence structure, hopefully this is better.
