UF gets a D1-AA school before playing FSU. Smart scheduling!
Since 2006. But I don’t think it’s going to last too much longer due to expansion. Probably just go with playing South Carolina before y’all or something like that. This schedule is just a one-year stop gap until the SEC can figure out what to do for the long haul.
Editor at Alligator Army.
Maybe when yall start playing USCe before us we can get a D1-AA before yall.
by Blake Davis on Dec 27, 2011 12:30 PM EST up reply actions
We played Carolina for years before y’all. That changed in 2006, but yeah, it would be smart (though I realize that the ACC does no favors for FSU when it comes to the schedules) to schedule a game like that.
Though Furman gave us a run for our money in the 1st half this year. I wasn’t really concerned or nervous at any point, but I was cautions for a moment or two.
Editor at Alligator Army.
FSU can cry me a river.
Tougher the schedule, the more deserving they are of a national championship.
We are going to have to start flagging for crying next year.
This play is under further review.

I think y’all did it right this year, though I’d have put the game (Oklahoma) in a different spot in the schedule.
Editor at Alligator Army.
We can't play Thursday games at home
and we are obligated to play a certain amount, or something. I assume our schedules reflect on having to choose schedules that have us playing our Thursday game on the road.
It’s an assumption, and in no way am I claiming that’s an actual reason we had to play OU and Clumpson back to back.
We have to cancel classes if we do home Thursday games, which is a problem.
http://floridastate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1286202 was a front page fan shot at the beginning of the year, and explains it. It’s kind of long, but the first part pretty much explains the issue.
I would've put Clemson in a different spot...
The Oklahoma game was a good spot because we were able to play them with a healthy team even though we didn’t have a run game established at the time… If we would’ve had the Clemson game switched w/ either the Duke or Boston College game (since it was an away game) we would’ve won and would be looking at the ACCCG in which we’d beat VaTech…. Not allowing our team to get the emotions from the Oklahoma game pass them set us back early in the season….
Well, yeah, either of those games. I just assumed that the Clemson game, since it was an ACC game, was set in stone so to speak, so FSU filled in Oklahoma at a later date. But yeah, that back-to-back, shouldn’t have been like that. It’s okay to schedule the teams, but just separate them a bit.
Editor at Alligator Army.
Nope
Unlike the SEC, we don’t play each conference game the same time every year because that would make too much sense
Yeah, generally the safe thing with the ACC when it comes to football is think about whatever logically makes the most sense, and then do the exact opposite of that
Haha, that’s just so pathetic. I mean, I get that it is a basketball conference, but you’d think that they’d just look at other conferences and copy it. It would take 10 seconds.
Editor at Alligator Army.

And question.
Do you know how the SEC schedule is working next year with 14 teams? Still 8 conference games?
by Blake Davis on Dec 27, 2011 12:30 PM EST up reply actions
It might be 9 games. At least that’s what the school presidents (mainly Carolina’s) are saying publicly.
But there is some opposition to that 9th game. Loss of a home game, loss of a cup-cake … etc., so I don’t really know. I wouldn’t be surprised either way. That’s why this year’s schedule will not set a precedent (according to the SEC) because after this year, it’ll more than likely be all shaken up except for the end-of-the-year out of conference rivalry games. And a few games here and there that are in the schedule as well.
Editor at Alligator Army.
SEC has several non-conf rivalry games thanksgiving weekend. They’re smart enough to keep the cupcakes the week before.
by FredGarvin...NoleProstitute on Dec 27, 2011 7:03 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Most of them, yeah. Some play an easy SEC team before the final game. I believe that is what UGA does. Think it was Kentucky this year.
Editor at Alligator Army.
Who needs smart scheduling?
The ACC likes to schedule teams like Oklahoma right before our biggest inter-divisional conference foe. It’s worked out great for them.
On that same note, I think they also favor the lower-tier bowls because of the ambiance. $$$ is pretty irrelivant to the ACC since they get a few million from the basketball squads each year.
All that ruckus in the bigger bowls hurts their sensitive ears. If only they could have powerhouse matchups like that good ole GT vs. Wake Forest game in 2006 more often, they would just be tickled pink.

I liked your post enough to tickle it green.
I’m still confused on why the ACC treats us like a red-headed stepchild. Football brings in around twice the revenue of what basketball does, if not more. And yet the ACC continues to make basketball the priority over football.
The conferences realign in a cash-grab for football TV Revenue and the ACC goes out and get Pitt and Syracuse and pat themselves on the back while sticking us in the ribs with Clemson the week after Oklahoma and that Thurs night trip up to BC on a short week.

Realignment
If we are going to 14 teams, we should become a North South format. Really Clemson would be the only threat to a ACC South Division Title. Just put North Carolina in the ACC North and the rest of the NC schools are in the ACC.

My buddy in the ACC office said this will not happen
To back up this position, he told me they did some study, and found that the difference in travel time over the course of the season would change by a few hours – in other words, if you spent a total of 50 hours traveling in current format, realignment would only reduce it to 45 hours. I think there are way more factors that should be considered here, but ultimately I was told realignment is not going to happen.

FSU strength training during the season
Last year I read that coach Vic made it a point to lift heavy at least one day per week during the season to keep their size and strength up.
I assume that is still the case but does anyone know how big and strong the current OL really is? Jimbo has a way of exaggerating the team size.
Can these 4 freshmen really get the push they need?

I like how we match up in the trenches vs Clemson next year
Inexperienced Clemson OL vs FSU DL, inexperience FSU OL vs inexperienced Clemson DL.
Put that game early in the year in a non-trap situation, with a healthy EJ and corners, and we smoke Clemson.

Notre Dame has no chance in this game.
They have a 1000 yard and a 700 yard rusher. They will be shut down by the FSU defense and will have to go to the air. This also will not be effective against the FSU defensive backs. FSU is 2nd against the run, the only way Notre Dame could win this game.

I’m a huge Fan of Bjoern the “WernerNator”…I really liked seeing him get in there and help block on the goal line, kind of wish Jimbo would have done that a lot more this season on 3rd and short and 4th and short situations..do you guys think we will see more of this Thursday and maybe even next year?
by thornole on Dec 27, 2011 10:55 PM EST via mobile reply actions
we may need it 2 win this 1 but definitely not next year
We may need all the help we can get on the Oline for this 1. But I would like to see G5 get his touches because I don’t think they r dumb or bold enough 2 punt 2 him. We should be ok though but I hope jimbo doesn’t go with the double tights too much. He needs 2 spread it out to give those young guys a better chance of identifying their assignments. I hope he has installed a few hot reads and some checks for ej at the line 2 get us in more high percentage plays. If we don’t turn tha ball over and get a few 1st downs, then we should win this one easily!! IMO
Noles4Life!!
Yeah I hope
He Keeps O’Leary only out there, let’s G5 come in for a reverse or a pitch play here and there, and has EJ looking for the short Quick pass all game so that we get rid of the ball quickly and keep it moving, doing that and geting a few good runs will open up the deeper passes when its time for em and yes I thin Shotgun and spreading em out like you said is very important with these young guys up front

Scheduling
How is it that the SEC can come out with next year’s schedule before the new year and it takes the ACC until sometime in late Janaury to complete the task? Now, I dont’ want any smart-ass answers liek the ACC is a second tier organization unless that is really the reason. We have computers and software just like the SEC has.

Complaining about the scheduling
This bothers me. I’ve read folks complaining ad nauseum about our scheduling, yet it seems to me that the ACC made it tougher for Clemson than they did us.
Yeah, we had to play OU the week before we went up there. OTOH, Clemson had to play the defending national champs. Sure, OU was better than AU, but really, by how much, knowing what we know now? And behind the CU/FSU game, they went to VPI, while we took the week off.
Folks are free to complain about what they want to complain about but knowing what Clemson’s schedule was, in comparison with ours, just makes it sound like whining from my seat. That’s one element that I never want associated with our program. Complaining.
Just my $.02.

Glad we didn't have to play Okie State then ;-)
I agree that OU was/is better than Auburn. Far as that goes, I think they were probably better than them last year, too.
All that said, how much really changes though, in terms of both teams had a huge emotional matchup the week before FSU played Clemson?
I think that when you add to it, that CU had to go to Blacksburg the next week…that made their stretch tougher, didn’t it? Or, at least as tough? Somehow, they got off the mat and held VPI to a field goal.
Regardless though, of what you think of the relative difficulty of the schedule, complaining about it, at some point, begins to sound like complaining. Doesn’t it?
