Quick Question

New to following signing day as it happens. Why have the above players been broken down to specific times? Is that just luck of the draw or was there some sort of method behind it? Do they pick their own times?

by GOW11 on Feb 2, 2011 6:59 AM EST reply actions

I dont know but seeing as they will be doing it Im sure ESPN has a hand in that. If they want to they could wait tell 11:59

But I think they have to get the paper work faxed and signed by then.

Maybe this is sexist...

How is it that Auburn and Bama get cute reporters on ESPNU, but we get someone’s mom in a Walmart turtleneck?

Holly Rowe is pretty on par with the female population in Gainesville, though. Makes sense.

You know, it's too bad Versus isn't doing NSD recruiting coverage.

We could probably get Jenn Sterger if we asked her nicely.

Is she still under contract there?

I thought once the show (The Daily Line) got cancelled she was no longer employed by Versus? Not sure though, has anyone seen her on any other Versus programming?

I don't think there's anything wrong with him being a bit biased....

so long as he is somewhat objective & not blind to reality. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a douche!

by Dangerous Dave! on Feb 2, 2011 9:39 AM EST reply actions

I disagree. He shouldn't show any bias in his analysis/commentary.

He’s partially still pitching uf to recruits, partially reminding everyone of how great he was (since that wasn’t obvious last season).

by Invictus13 on Feb 2, 2011 9:41 AM EST up reply actions

it is not humanly possible to be completely unbiased

LIstening to Urban is absolute murder

All he talks about is what they did at Florida. He can never give an opinion without bringing UF into it. Just the conv on NOL pissed me off when he just couldn’t comment on NOL without bringing up AC Leonard and how the Gators got him. Such a douce!

i respect the kid for going with his own choice

His momma liked garnet and he liked green …I mean orange. only a few months until Jacob F tests that acl…just kidding…but seriously he better get his head around when he chases that screen down

So once again, Jones, what was briefly yours is now mine.

by Ponder This on Feb 2, 2011 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

How is it that, other than Antone Smith, we almost always come out on the wrong end of the mommas in recent years?

Either we have a momma that is all for us and the recruit bolts anyway, or we have a momma pushing the kid elsewhere whose heart is w/ us…and seems like other than Antone, we don’t get them either…

At least we don't have mothers forging their sons signatures on an LOI like the kid going to Texas A&M

Mom signed an LOI to Ole Miss. I can see Houston Nutt now: “look momma, you signed an LOI, now you gotta come play. You’re kid is uber-talented – he must have got it from somewhere.”

who got the money?

my money (no pun intended) is on the HS coach, in the form of job opportunity as opposed to cold hard cash.

SO...

Chickillo signed today, but the rest of the Miami class whiffed. Any indications on who the “big gets” he was supposed to bring in were supposed to be?

And is it true what I am reading? Has Miami seriously not signed a QB yet?

Defeat Miami, 45-17. End Florida's win streak, 31-7. Win the ACC Atlantic. 10 win season. Chick-fil-A Bowl Champs, 26-17. Two wins over the top two teams in the SEC East. Nation's top recruiting class? The only thing that could make this year any better.

by DutchFSU on Feb 2, 2011 3:16 PM EST reply actions

As of right now ESPN still has us #1, with AU making big moves

Does anyone know if either AU or Bama (anybody else) has enough left out there to overtake us?

Sort of anticlimactic today

With all the hype and buzz going in today it actually IMHO turned to be anticlimactic. I am in no way downing this class. I think we did very good and am happy. But TS going to Clemson was the biggest surpise. Many thought we would get Jernigan. No real last minute surprise recruits or any oh my moments.

Not so bad when you have dominant DTs.

I think it was during the Steelers vs. Ravens game when Phil Simms said something to the effect of “It’s easier for a Quarterback to deal with outside pressure, than it is with pressure from the inside.” I would agree with that. Would rather force the QB out of the pocket with dominant DTs, if I had the choice.

Who you confident in 2nd string?

could look like this

Starters Carradine, Jenkins
2nd: Werner, Hicks
3rd: Jackson, Stevens

I think Carradine beats out Werner but that is only 3 true DEs that we know can play. There are a lot of other bodies that can be plugged in but are unknowns at the position. Like the Oline, the DE postion has plenty of questions that will need to be addressed.

More likely that Jeff Luc would...or Holmes.

CJ too good in pass coverage. Probably could put his hand in the ground if needed, but I think there are other options at LB better suited for it.

that could play 10 snaps a game as a freshman. Either one of those probably could have.

fun post, no doubt.

unfortunately Steward is as good a LB as any of those are RBs. I can’t wish the kid unwell, he was torn.

It comes down to this:

We wanted Steward
We needed Jernigan

We got what we needed. I was bummed when he chose Clemson, no doubt, but we got Jernigan so I’m good. We have a ton of great young LB talent.

completely agree!

but you cannot be blind from all the press that Clemson has got from landing Steward. 1 year from now, we wont’ even remember this moment. just right now it sucks.

I'm not blind to anything

But Clemson is still going to be Clemson in the end. They’ll have Steward and the other 3 elite players for 3 seasons. I’ll take our guys over theirs frankly, so like I said I’m good. Tony will get some great PT and Steele will coach him up, I’m happy for him.

your right

it wasnt a bad choice for the kid and Clemson/Dabo has yet to put it all together. As long as Steele is coaching him, he has a great shot of NFL bound. Just unfortunate that it didn’t work out.

biggest downer for me was it was a place like Clemson

Bama, LSU somewhere like that I can understand but Clemson? When we were pulling in high ranked classes with a poor record we had 14 top 5 finishes and 2 NC to sell and the kids were usually instate.

Dabo must’ve been one hell of an insurance sells man. What can they sell? Earyl PT, tons of schools the caliber of Clemson can sell that, they can’t sell conference like some marginal SEC teams can sell, they can’t sell a glorious and rich traditon because they have none and they can’t sell proximity to home there are a ton of big time schools between FL and SC. They can’t sell academic prowess like a ND, they had a losing record this year and their coach has probably one more year tops to turn the team around.

For them to pull a kid like TS this year still blows my mind when you consider are record vs their record, were instate, his whole family appeared to want him at FSU and he was a self describe Noles fan. The woman at Death Valley must have some primo “crown molding”

Loving UM's Fish comments (via Dinich)

I think I forgot how important the time you spend with the seniors in high school, how important it is to some of these guys and their parents that you almost feel like you walk in there and you feel like you can walk off an NFL playoff field and sell them on football, on what they’re going to gain on what they’re going to come from the U and the University of Miami," he said. "And you forget that some of their responses might be, ‘Well, I’ve known the quarterbacks coach at another school for seven months.’ It’s so critical to keep moving forward and talking about how we have a chance to change the future. We can never change the past.

Did the U just rehire Whipple?

Steward

IMO Tim Jernigan was by and large the best pick up of the day. Another dominant DT on a team that led the nation in sacks last year…..wow! As much pub as clowney got in the Army game Jernigan dominated as much from the DT position against two guys at most times.

Couple him with DT’s that are now starting to come on and LB that are big, fast, and young…..this class is going to go off quicker than most think.

Their spin is FSU always signs a good class, doesn’t mean anything. Other spin is FSU really did not bring in any game changers! Now that is good. Also talking about what a great offensive line Auburn brought in. By the way is it in writing somewhere that FSU signed the best offensive line class in the country?
