Florida State heavily pursued Jernigan throughout the process. A lot of credit goes to Coah Odell Haggins with securing the commitment. Jernigan who lives only 40 miles from University of Florida campus, was considered a Gator lean early in the recruiting process. He started visiting Florida State in the summer of his 8th grade year for Seminoles Football camps. Haggins coached Jernigan during that football camp years ago and Haggins and Jernigan developed a close bond.

Jernigan stands 6'2 and weighs in at 280lbs. He is so lean and athletic that Jernigan looks more like a linebacker than a defensive tackle. Jernigan has all the tools you look for in an elite defensive lineman that can play the 3 technique. Jernigan is very quick off the ball and a serious pass-rushing threat. He is very active and violent with his hands. One weakness in Jernigan's game is he has been known to take plays off. This is something that can easily be corrected with proper coaching and the attitude of the player. Jernigan has a chance for early playing time next year due to his pass rushing skill and overall athleticism. The sky is the limit for Jernigan, this is a player who can be multiple 1st team All-ACC type player with the right work ethic.
