If you happen to be just like me and just can't wait for 2012's recruiting extravaganza to begin than you must be wondering if we can produce another 2011 recruiting gem. Sadly, I don't think it is going to happen but it doesn't mean we can't have a memorable 2012. To understand what we should expect for 2012 we must go off current years past.
The simple reason why 2011 was ranked #1 was because of three reasons. The most important part is that Fisher & Company were A+ as far as effort and ability is concerned, outside of Steward what really went wrong? Next would be Meyer's decision to quit. The reason why it gave us such an upper hand was because it was so sudden. Imagine being a recruit and hearing the coach is quiting in the middle of the season! Fisher swept up a good share of UF's locks and thank Fisher for it. Meyer's decision handed us over the keys to many of UF locks such as Jernigan, Waisome, and even KB. Miami's decision to fire Randy Shannon did not have the same impact for FSUas did Meyers', simply because many of Miami's prospects were already fading away from the U. It was similar to FSU in the mid 2000's,so we weren't able to reel in the likes of Watkins, Bridgewater, & etc.
So why is this all imperative to 2012? We should expect to see some consistency in the product that is UF and UM. Luckly we have solidified ours and I'm proud to have Jimbo & co. However, we must expect to see UF and UM to get better. Sure there may be some bumps butthese two programs have been too good to just fade away like in 2011. I don't expect Muschamp to have much difficulty at Florida and once he learns how to handle Florida recruiting better and just let the school sell itself they will be back. FSU should not expect as many prospects from the Orlando and Jacksonville areas if this were to happen. Expect Florida to sign a top ten class and compete with FSU for the state's recruiting title. Just remember whoever coaches at Florida will have a lot of selling points for recruiting. Miami's road back to glory is a little bit more muddy of a situation. They have a lot of repairing to do withall the leaks that were created as far as their inroads are concerned, not to mention the actual football team itself. So expect Miami to be around the 15-20 mark. Golden has a similar task to Fisher did when he took over FSU so I strongly consider Golden's job to be much more difficult to fix. That being said I think Miami will work itself out with Golden at the task but this job is going to take a solid 2 to even 3 years to fix. If things work out the way cane fan's wish, than Golden will fix everything imediatley and lock up all of Miami's best and bring back the U. If so than watch out Nole's because we will be asked to beat the best possible competitors and I do remember when Shannon pulled in a #1 class in 2008..... thank god they never lived up to the billing.
FSU has the task in 2012 to sign a higher quailty of talent based on the sheer demand of incoming recruits. Not to say that 2011 wasn't loaded with quality talent but we signed 29 players for 2011! I am unaware of the exact numbers but I don't see the 2012 class being around 18 to 25. The best case scenario for FSU is that Fisher accurately picks the best prospects early while we have the momentum in recruiting and if seven early commits isn't aclue of the route FSU is taking than take your vitamins . As for the soon again national champion noles, I suggest the wave of momentum to push forward until we face off with OU, the game will have a early impact on recruiting and could even steal some potential gator and cane leans if FSU wins. I am confident though that if FSU loses to OU it won't have as large negative impact as a win would. If FSU lives up to it's early 2012 billing and wins the ACC championship they could get a top ten class. I don't think FSU would pull a top 3 class unless FSU has an exceptional year on the field and both Golden and Muschamp both struggle in their first year. If Muschamp learns "Florida Manner's" and Golden turns into "Joe the Plummer" and fixes all their leaks than FSU won't have the luxury of plucking the best talent in Florida like in 2011. So in the end expect FSU's class to rank between the 3rd to 20th class and my gut shot of the 9th best class.
