Markuss Eligwe Commits To Florida State Seminoles
Markuss Eligwe, a linebacker from Stone Mountain High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia has committed to the Florida State Seminoles. Eligwe, whose real name is Ukeme, stands 6'3" and weighs 215 pounds. He has limited football experience, but brings plenty of athleticism to the field. Eligwe will play in the U.S. Army All-American Game after his senior season.
There is a fierce battle brewing between Eligwe and Dillon Lee for the honor of top linebacker in Georgia. FSU is also feverishly pursuing Lee. Eligwe is very quick in pursuit and has a long frame. He profiles as a 6'3" or 6'4" 235-245 pound outside backer by his third year in Tallahassee. Eligwe felt comfortable with Florida State's staff and really liked FSU's forensic criminology program. He is a smart kid and can quickly learn the game. Eligwe is a solid four-star player.
In a year in which FSU's need for linebackers is significant and the state of Florida's supply of linebackers is relatively poor, this is a big get for the Seminoles. Eligwe held offers from Florida, Georgia, Auburn, and Virginia Tech.
And here is some free video from yahoo that they offer through the "embed share" option:
Florida State signed the top class in the country in 2011 and is well on its way to signing an excellent 2012 class. Eligwe is the ninth commitment of the 2012 class. He joins Mario Edwards, Jr. (6'5" 280 DE & #1 player in Texas), Dalvon Stuckey (6'3" 295lb DT), Delmarick "Mario" Pender (elite RB), P.J. Williams (excellent DB), and Dante Fowler, Jr. (excellent defensive end), Chris Casher(excellent defensive end), Roberto Aguayo (kicker), and Alphonse Taylor (6'6" 330 pound OL). Florida State already has good talent. With the 2011 and 2012 classes, however, it is about to have great talent.

Great Get for the Noles!
What I like most about him is I don’t think he’s going to flip on us, and that gives us a solid recruiter in GA to work on some of those other targets like Lee.
Supposedly
he and Lee have gotten close and want to play together.

Hope you're right
Not only to add to our great LB class, but man, Telvin, Terrence Smith, Dillon Lee, and Eligwe, that’s a lot of Georgia talent (top GA talent) in just one unit! That’s incredible.
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
Pretty cool that they were paired up in the pursuit drills on that Yahoo/Rivals video above.

Unfortunately, I had the same thought.
I didn’t know If I was the only person that had, I guess I was not. Maybe this will be the year, and this will be the young man that will go the Army All-American game and pickup a commitment or two for us. I thought that with JWJ going there last year he would get us a couple of commitments from his time at the game. It didn’t work out that way though.

Close to half way done?
If we expect to take a small class this year of 22-25 as most on here seem to predict we are close to half way done with more than 9 months to go. Pretty amazing. I know we have been targeting players earlier since Jimbo has taken charge but this is well ahead of last years pace, no?

Thanks (to you, Osceola, etc.)
BTW, I’m down with a 2-power state. That would bode very well for FSU in the near future. I think we’d be quite competitive with uf and on a national level.
It's all up to FSU to make that happen.
If we can increase our resources to $90-100M in the next several years, we’ll have likely narrowed the gap some on Florida and distanced ourselves some from Miami. Currently at $75Mish, so with about $6M more a year from ESPN kicking in this upcoming season and the generated revenue from consistent ACC Championships and BCS Bowls (mainly through increased Booster membership, dues and donations), we better see that revenue go up.

what's revenue from ACC Championship?
I didn’t think we got any money from BCS, goes straight to the conference and is divvied out equally. Only way we get more bowl money than is expected is if we take a lower bowl game from a conference that couldn’t fill their spots (as BC did from the pac-10 this year) or field 2 BCS teams, which would only happen if us and VT were top 5ish heading into the ACCCG, which hasn’t happened yet.
unfortunately
Garnet and Gold cannot go to the BCS as two separate teams, seems each school can only field one team in competition.
AMFK beat me to it.
If we go the championship games, then Va Tech can go do their annual thing and get smoked in a different BCS game
Formerly known as Randall W. Spetman
I think this year has a legitimate chance
Va Tech plays nobody. Could go 12-0 and lose to us in the Conf Champ. 12-1 Va Tech gets an at-large bid.
Shot a Gator in Jean Shorts just to watch him die.
I was meaning by consistently winning (ie, winning ACC CG's and BCS Bowls), we will/should increase our Booster base and donor contributions.

You can do it this...
when you have a modernized approach to recruiting and are more system-specific to what you want because you know what you want and can do a better job of projecting classes.
That was a minimum. I am expecting 21-23

OK, I know this WAY EARLY, but do we expect to take a really big class in 2013?
If the 2011, and 2012 seasons go as well as expected. With this staff having been here in full force for 3 to 4 years to cultivate relationships wouldn’t the 2013 class be right about when they are hitting on all cylinders? Can we look forward to a really special season followed by a really special recruiting class? I know that is a lot of speculation, even more than we usual dabble in, but that is what we do here, and we do it so well. I think that you are the best of us at it, a pigskin prognosticator of the highest order, and with that in mind I believe you will be able to hit this one out of the park. (Pardon me) wrong sport. I think you can take this one to the house. So let me clarify what I am asking. You have said that we should not expect this class (2011) to be as good as last year, even if we took the top 23 or so from last year, we can’t expect this year’s players to be as good on average. I believe you called last year “a perfect storm.” If you take all the things I have stated above, do you think that 2013 would be a good possibility for another “perfect storm”?
PS. Thank you Bud for all you do for us Nole Fans. While I was typing this they were showing the damage in Tuscaloosa, AL. I read about your connection to that area, and TN’s connection to it as well. I will pray for all those people to pull through as quickly as possible. If there is anything I, and I feel comfortable in saying (We, as the Tomahawk Nation that you have brought together) can do to help, PLEASE LET US KNOW.

i think he was saying we wont get another top class not because of talent but because of how small the class will be
especially when compared to the big classes miami and florida are expected to take
Ya, that was part of what he was saying, and part of what I was trying to say.
Someone asked him if he thought that the players that we get this year will be on average as good as last year. The answer was something like, If you compare this year’s class to the corresponding number of players from last year he didn’t think that it would be as good. If you took the top 23 or so players and compared them to the class we will bring in this year, this year would come up short. Not that this year wont be really good, just last year was "a perfect storm". But I will let him speak for himself, because I may have it all wrong.

Very nice get
Putting together another very nice defensive class to go with the prospects we have already brought in. In another year or so the vast majority of ACC offenses will not stand a chance at moving the ball against us. Our success on the trail, and uf’s as well, really stands in stark contrast to what Miami is doing. I’m starting to feel bad for those guys.

D)Vince Naimoili(Initial Owner) signed a sweetheart deal that benefited St.Pete for long term lease. This was against the wishes of MLB and the commissioner. Vince took the stadium that was already built.
A)If stadium was in Tampa it would have 3x as many fans within 30 minutes to draw from.
2)Stadium is fine for the regular fan but for the Corporate sponsorship/Luxury Boxes(Which brings majority of revenue) It is horrible. In turn, minimal corporations buying boxes and numerous season tickets.
Dogrel’s comments are another VERY valid point. My mom & dad are still hardcore Mets & Yankees fans.
by BucsNolesRays on Apr 28, 2011 9:43 AM EDT up reply actions
Corporate issue is huge
Couldn’t find the exact numbers after a quick search but the discrepancy between Corporate season ticket holders for the Rays and more successful franchises is huge. A move across the bay would likely help that problem significantly. Improved economy wouldn’t hurt either.
Dorgel.You nailed it.
I know (TWSS). With that out of the way. My family started coming down here from New York, and Boston about 35 years ago. I pull for the Rays, but I’m 37 and I’m really not into baseball. Most of my family is though, but there all Yankees, and Redsox fans, and there is NOTHING the Rays can do about it.

My Parents came down from Detroit
All huge Tigers fans. I grew up just south of PSL before the Mets came to town. I went to a few of their spring training games, but I had already latched onto the Yankees by that point.
As for my own fanhood, the 1994-95 strike killed it for me. I could never get that excited about baseball again. I came to FSU that fall, discovered college football and didn’t look back.
Ain’t no labor disputes, player strikes or owner lockouts in CFB.

Maybe, but using a few isolated incidents to describe an entire city of fans is a pretty weak argument, as well.
Every fan base has it’s idiots, but the “loser” mentality is something the city as a whole has been trying to break for almost 30 years.

I can think of a few things....
One being 31-7, and the other being 45-17, but hey those were some good days.
I will say this...
I would have loved to select some FL teams as my favs growing up, however, in my day, FL didn’t have anything but football. I had already chosen my favorite teams by the time FL decided to play big boy sports and I’m not turning my back on them now!
That is what makes me feel bad for them
They were so excited about this “eye of the storm” garbage, Golden sending out hand written notes and whatever else. Guy is going to bring in a class that is only slightly better than USF’s at this pace. I feel bad for them the same way I feel bad for the inmate that has decided to represent himself.

Golden can charm a family like no other coach at a big-time program save Saban and maybe Richt. That’s not my subjective opinion. Anyone could see that if they listened to him speaking and understood his values, not to mention the fact that he’s been doing it longer than Fisher and Muschamp.
Agree completely. If we’re talking about “brands” than there’s no bigger brand in college football than Miami, regardless of who’s coaching, as opposed to a HC’s name being a brand like big bad Saban or Fisher. oooooooo Fisher he’s a legend I’m gonna bow down to his clout!

Oh, wait… maybe those words are better suited for Clemson? Storms, Hurricanes, Tigers… too many “eyes” around these days.
i dunno...
if all the big schools jumped ship from the NCAA and made their own setup, leaving Miami and the other crappy schools behind, they would have a good shot at winning the newly-irrelevant BCS title.

A funny story.
A friend of mine in school (who had NO game at all) told me he was going to ask this girl he had a crush on to go out with him. So we are at lunch and he goes over to her and pulls this note out of his his Kangaroos shoe. It must have been folded in half a hundred times, and sweaty as hell. Her friends just started laughing at him. She was a class act though, and told them to shut up, then told them it was just a note asking if he could barrow her math book after school. But me and another friend of his knew the truth. We gave him crap about that for years, but we kept it between us.

In 2007 when I was walking into Doak before the Miami game
I witnessed several, absolute, bottom of the barrel, tatted up, white trash scUM of the earth, dancing on one of the bronze statues outside our stadium taking their wife beaters off and waving them in the air, I knew from that day on how much I despised UM.

Thought the 31-0 UM beatdown was worse ...
After giving UM the game … and as it turned out the national championship … the year before. Everyone “knew” we would get our revenge … remember the seminole rap?
Worst beat down on the best team I can EVER remember. If we crossed the 50 yard line all game … we did it once.
Ugly and a huge letdown.
We were loaded.
And that was the best, but not the only, example of the Bowden staff’s failure to get the team ready for a game and for the season early on.
Tallahassee was like a ghost town. I never saw so much depression— until the ’91 game.
I have no sympathy for miami- it was a program built on thuggery that took advatnage of Bowden’s myopia. Thise days are gone and aren’t coming back.

I will never feel bad for the Canes.Ever
Moved from NY in 1991 when I was 12. Never a bug college fan up their in NY. Remember watching FSU vs Michigan., Was most exciting game I had ever seen to me. Loved FSU from that day. 8th grade in South Florida. 80% kids Miami fans. And my first ever FSU-Miami game that I cared about. Was Wide Right 1. It hurt so much. And for years had to hear about it from the Cane kiddies. I hated them 10 times more the Florida for a long time. About equal now. But I think Miami for me anyway is a school I still have extra hate for. Only reason I wish they might be better is so when we beat the piss out of them its worth more then beating up on a senior citizen thats long past its heyday

Yea something like that
But being from NY. I didn’t really have college football. All pro stuff. I would visit relatives in Florida a few times a year my whole life. But college just wasn’t big. When I came down here and finally watched a game. And it just had so much action. So fast it seemed compared to some 17-13 NFL football games. And I loved the garnet and gold. And the fact everyone around loved Maimi, who I just didn’t like for some reason. I was sold. I was also 12 and new to college sports on a major level.
A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt.

Yea. Weldon was the QB
And we had Buckley, Friar, Amp Lee, lol
A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt.
Pretty much sums up how I feel about them too
the 18 months I lived in south Florida was like a living hell in terms of dealing with the Miami fans. During college I travelled down to the Orange Bowl for the 31-0 smack down. One of the worst damn days of my life! Some idiot fan took my coke out of my hands and dumped it on my feet because I was wearing an FSU shirt. The SAE’s I was with promptly beat his ass (that was the best part of that day!)
Don't you know that any Southern Girl worth her salt is a football fan?
It was probably still in the plastic baggie.
I mean, that stuff will blow everywhere in the breeze if you just pour it in your hands.
I went to 3 FSU/Miami games in the 90's as a kid
First 2 Both losses. And at like 14 or 15 years old had some big ass UM college dude rip my hat off and knock me down and throw my hat off the second level. Lovely people.. My hatred was truly cemented. Why I loved when we smacked them the third time and the whole section while walking down at the Orange Bowl was doing the Chop in Miami’s face
A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt.
Nobody really gave a shit about CFB in NY in the 80's.....I actually liked ND & USC before I moved to FL in the summer of '89.
I used to think USC had awesome uniforms until I discovered FSU. The underdog Seminoles beating down UM in 1989 solidified it for me.
The obnoxious Mexicans working the kitchen at TGIFridays didn’t help any when UM won on back-to-back missed FG’s…..I’ve hated UM ever since. I SAVOR blowouts…I don’t EVER “miss the competition”. I’ll take 4-TD beatdowns EVERY GODDAMN YEAR.

Charlie Ward Jr., Deion Sanders II, and Reggie White II were all on the 2019 roster.
For some reason I don’t like starting as FSU in my dynast modes though. Me and a few buddies set it up where you have to start at a maximum 3 star program.

they were the worst ranked team i could find (D+). ended up with 3 losses the first year, 1 the next, and bowls both years. the next year, i was off to LSU (wanted to wait for FSU, but i couldnt stand the impossible recruiting for much longer). finally got my chance at FSU after about 5 years at LSU of winning NC’s every year. funny thing is, i tried it again, but upped it from AA to Heisman (hey, i started with FIfreakinU, i had to give myself some kind of chance) and the same thing happened (FIU→LSU→FSU), just ended up with less lopsided games and it took a little longer to get to LSU.
"I guess they have a reputation of being more of a tricky team and not being tough. You hit ‘em in the mouth, and they don’t like it. Other teams that have beat them just hit them in the mouth, so that’s what we started out with.’’ - Nick Moody
I start out @ FIU a lot as well
finished a 28 year dynasty with them last Dec. and just picked it up again a couple days ago, played 1 season @ Minn before I took the LSU team who went 5-7 in 2010 somehow.
I usually play with sliders that make AA pretty difficult. Hiesman starts to cheat. So generally if you can move the sliders around well enough AA tends to be the best. let me know if you want a tough game from AA and I;ll post them.

i have been pulling my hair out watching the ridiculousness of Heisman. my guys will drop a wide open INT, but the other team will pick one off because it bounced off my receivers hand and directly into theirs. its absurdity at its finest sometimes, and i would LOVE to finally have some semblance of realism in my game. you can shoot me an email if you dont want to post them all on here, my email is in my profile.

Knowing all the while what he was capable of. Have to believe he was confident in his abilities and what he could accomplish while he was sitting there as head coach in waiting. All while the program continued to reel. Had to take an incredible amount of patience. Sure am glad he stuck it out. Torrid ascent the Nole program is on right now. I think hes exceeded all but the biggest (we should be in the national title game every year) dreamers.

Interesting stat from early on: 4/9 recruits OOS, only 4/27 last year (excluding JUCO's)
For those curious, 3/4 last year were from GA and 1 was from Alabama. So far this year we’re looking at 2 from AL, 1 from GA and 1 from TX.
Bring on Dillon Lee next..
I am interested in OOR (region) not oos. And I don’t care where JUCOs come from.

Seems like Jimbo is content to stick regionally with some exceptions
Werner and Tye being at a boarding school is pretty comparable to being JUCO but they still fit the bill. This year, outside of Kelly who is apparently kind of a longshot, I don’t know of us involved with anyone outside the region… am I missing someone? I’d imagine that’ll come back in a few years once we’ve won another title..
Peat, Diggs
Both are 5* talents and we’ll take them if they want a spot.
I think there are a couple more guys, but I’ll let someone more familiar answer further.

What are you glorifying with your life?
good article.
Just curious, who is Dante Ferguson? His father? Doesn’t seem like he’s super happy with the FSU decision…his response sounded like a “I’m happy that he likes FSU, however there are other schools out there, like Florida that I’d like to see him go to and maybe a little harder recruiting by them now will change his mind” type response. Simply speculation, could be dead wrong though.
"We have to start over. We have to develop our own identity, our own chemistry, our own unity, our own vision of where we want to go...This is just the beginning. Because remember one thing – I tell you all the time: Boys do what they want to do. Champions do what they’ve got to do. " CJF
Sorta makes UF & UGA look desperate IMO

Roll Bass and War Ryno for me
there is a disconnect here, Bud in your thinking - you talk about how we will be a worse team after 2012 with the loss of upper classmen - but you readily state that the talent replacing the departing players is great - compared to the good talent that
is leaving. I am subscribing to the “reload” theory more than “rebuilding” after 2012
You don’t lose 13 starters and come back stronger. Experience and schedule matter and both will hurt FSU in 2013. There’s no disconnect.

I think we had a couple flurries last season, too. Flurries can generate some extra buzz/interest, and it might be more effective to have an occasional flurry than only a slow and steady trickle. Flurries + steady trickle = best of both worlds, maximum impact perhaps?

wasn’t expecting him to announce for a bit now.
He profiles as a 6’3" or 6’4" 235-245 pound outside backer by his third year in Tallahassee.
I thought from the highlights that he profiles better as a MLB (IMO). Just looks like a natural at diagnosing where a play is headed and meeting the ball carrier head on. Also looked good at shedding and more importantly at avoiding blocks.

Look the Noles have a great recruiting tool read this:
For those of you wondering the recruiting advantage of FAMU for FSU read this:
http://recruitocosm….eaking-it-down/
"Most importantly, Florida State sits next door to FAMU, a predominantly black college. In the realm of black colleges, FAMU is a premier party school, the FSU players’ social schedule is built around black sorority life at FAMU, and the reason you always hear about brawls, shootings, and stabbings at FAMU with FSU players is because the FSU players pretty much live there. They even have apartments in the FAMU part of town".
"FAMU has 8,500 females enrolled and the #1 status symbol for a FAMU girl is a FSU football player boyfriend. Do I need to spell it out for you? That’s not even counting the FSU girls".
As far as UF goes the kids that they got are not our top targets so let them pull our 2nd and 3rd choices as long as we get our top targets. Scholly numbers are tight this year and if we feel we can get out top targets over our 2nd and 3rd choice I’m fine with that.

How is it completely off base
Last year or the year before I remember Bud telling the story about a recruit who went to a bunch of FAM parties signed with us, and then was surprised by all the white people in his classes.
Bring back Peter Tom Willis— a true Nole! -FiestaNole
remember...you responded to a FAMU alumnus
i would assume he knows whats going on at FAMU better than we FSU alumni do.
"I guess they have a reputation of being more of a tricky team and not being tough. You hit ‘em in the mouth, and they don’t like it. Other teams that have beat them just hit them in the mouth, so that’s what we started out with.’’ - Nick Moody
Yuuuuuuuuup. I DO know that the abundance of white girls in town (FSU/TCC) helps FAMU recruiting...
…But they forget to tell us that 95% of those FSU girls are looking for someone who makes them look better in the eyes of their peers, and a FAMU football player just doesn’t do that.

I'm no culture expert
but I don’t know that there’s a single correct statement in that whole thing, besides the first sentence “FSU sits next door to FAMU, a predominantly black college.”
Premier party school? Perhaps, though besides homecoming weekend I doubt it has a bigger party base than FSU.
FSU players’ social schedule built around black sorority life? Brawls, shootings and stabbings at FAMU with FSU players??/? I honestly would have little idea what most athletes do with their little free time, besides hang around with themselves. Surely many of them are found at clubs and bars, but hanging out specifically with famu sororities? highly doubt it. racism alert: they can get all the fried chicken they want in their own dining hall. And the last time we heard about any players getting into fights, it was with an FSU frat, rumored to be over an incident involving an fsu girl, at floyd’s, not exactly a famu hot spot.
8,500 females at FAMU? I found 09 numbers of only 6,900 females enrolled. Numbers went up a little bit in 2010, but not that much.
- status symbol is an fsu football player boyfriend? Well sure, either Greg Reid or the drum major for the 100, that’s what I always say.

Whoa whoa whoa!
Jimbo Fisher will not let them eat all the fried chicken they want…. that was Bobby… we have a team nutritionist now and unless your name is Trickett I don’t think Fried Chicken is on the menu :)
"The worst kind of non-smokers are the ones that come up to you and cough. That's pretty f*^@ing cruel isn't it? Do you go up to cripples and dance too?"
- Bill Hicks (another dead hero)

At first, I wondered how in the hell a story about a commitment could have 400 comments...
…Then I realized—Pitbornagain happened.

Is that bad. His talking of commitment removed?
A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt.
LOL
Anyone notice the kid wearing the Gator shorts get blown out of the play in the blocking drills? The only kid to move backwards through the air lol.
