Urban Meyer early favorite to coach at Ohio State in 2012
Interesting...the main reason why I linked this is because of the #2 guy on the list.

I know we wont keep him forever
But I certainly don’t wanna lose him this soon. I think coach Hudson will do fine once it happens but I was optimistic we’d keep him for 4yrs.

Wishful thinking. More of hoping he would than truely thinking so. Most people thought 2yrs as well.

Yeah
I was hoping he’d serve out his 3-year contract, but I thought he might leave after two seasons.
Considering some of the other names on that list these odds really dont mean a thing for Stoops getting offered
That being said, IF (see that big IF?) He gets offered he’s gone. Best job in the country imo.

Going by pay
AL is
'see da broad ta get tha booty yackum, layem down smackum yackum...ho got ta be.... shiiiiiit!' 'early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise'
Ok.
But Pay is not the only factor. Support, Finances, and Recruiting are other biggies.
My list:
Texas
Alabama
Florida
Ohio State
USC (when not on probation)
agreed
dont forget about expectations. Bama has great support (financial and otherwise), but they expect a coach that can produce like Bear Bryant. i would pass on Bama to take a job at FSU because my work would be appreciated by reasonable fans, not cut short when the impossible doesnt happen.
Texas’ weak schedule means expectations are easier to meet, and they arent even as high as Bama.
"I guess they have a reputation of being more of a tricky team and not being tough. You hit ‘em in the mouth, and they don’t like it. Other teams that have beat them just hit them in the mouth, so that’s what we started out with.’’ - Nick Moody
I would take the Bama job
Because I’ve always wanted to know what it would be like to be treated like a god.
Bama is a meat grinder though
Between Saben and Bryant the second longest tenure was 3 years. And the quality of the coaches they where hiring where not exactly of the Saben quality either.
Pay?
Mack Brown is making over $5M/year at Texas and gets a $100K raise each additional year he’s there.

Nick Saban $5,997,349 (total), $700,000 (maximum bonus)

Hmm, wonder how much of his "total" is incentive-based due to the national title season, if any (yes, I see the "bonuse" section).
But I didn’t realize Saban was in the $5+M range. He and Brown are the only two.

i think that chart has potential totals, not actual
meaning that number is what each would earn if he reached every incentive, meaning Saban has the potential to make the most (and likely did that year).

Agreed
Texas is by far the best job in the country. I dont think its even close either.

Texas has to play OU every year
The big 10 is a joke. All OSU has to do is win 8 conference games then the big 10 ccg and theyre in the NC every year. Theyre not going to schedule an OOC they wont be favored in.
Nebraska could pose a problem for tosu hc but Texas’ path to the NC is much tougher.

Nebraska is in the Big Ten now and eventually Michigan will get back on track and Paterno will retire.
The Big Ten is a better conference than the Big XII and it’s not really close, imo.

The big 10 as a whole may be better but OSU doesn't play the entire conference
It’s harder to determine OSU’s conference schedule than UT’s but every single year UT plays all 9 conference teams while OSU plays 6. Some years they’ll draw a tougher schedule but others will be easier.
Oklahoma > Wisconsin
Okie St.> PSU
aTm > Michigan
Missoui > Illinois
Texas Tech > Northwestern
Baylor > Purdue
That's hilarious.
Tier 1
Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Nebraska >> Texas, Oklahoma
Tier 2
Missouri, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State > Wisconsin and Iowa
Tier 3
Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan State, Northwestern > Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State
Tier 4
Indiana = Iowa State
Regardless, the Big Ten’s path is tougher because one of the big 4 will have to face another intradivisionally and then will have to play a 13th game in the Big Ten Championship which the Big XII no longer has.

im confused
Are you saying Penn State and Michigan are far better than Texas and Oklahoma?

I'm saying the Big Ten has 4 elite programs compared to the Big XII's two.

OSU has been the most aggressive OOC scheduler this decade
OSU has played home and homes with USC, Texas and Miami this last decade. They left a lot of money on the table to do this.
As to the Big 12 versus Big 10. The Big 12 has Oklahoma sure but it also has Baylor and Kansas. The Big 10 has several teams that are good to very good. Or think of this way .5 to win against OU and .55 against A&M and at least .6 for everyone else including a couple above .75 versus .50 against Nebraska, .55 against Wisconsin, .60 against Penn St, .6 against Michigan, .6 against Iowa, .55 against Michigan St and only one over .75.
OSU had to schedule a tough OOC slate because of the weaker conference games
That could change now that they added Nebraska and a CCG. The future schedules at the moment are not much tougher for OSU than UT.
I think Texas is as well.
Good administration and great recruiting grounds. Really sets a coach up to win.

I think UF is the best job in the country. But hey…there is a slight chance that there might be a little bias in the reasoning.
When Spurrier left UF, coaches from around the country (26 to be exact) were polled at UF was voted top job. Texas was #2. FSU was #3. http://static.espn.go.com/ncf/s/spurrier/floridajob.html
I don’t think all that much as change. But if someone doesn’t have UF in the Top 3…they are retarded.

Really odd list
Utah above Auburn (actually can understand that one at the time with what went down with Bowden) and tOSU. Really wonder what todays list would look like.
Yeah, I’m kind of surprised they don’t compile a more recent one.

I guess I don't get why UF would've been above FSU at that point in time.
Is that saying Utah had 2 first place votes?

They are close IMO
But what makes Texas (and to a lesser extent Alabama) better is lack of competition in recruiting. Texas gets basically a top 5 class with no work every year.
Saves you some serious money as well.

Right.
In terms of Program, Prestige, and Money, I think TX, AL, and UF are all about equal. You can toss in OK and USC and tOSU too. I just think Texas has that one big advantage of recruiting.
Yeah, that makes sense. I agree to that.

Yeah, Foley has admitted that he handled the whole process wrong. Even going as far as saying the tracking of the UAA plane was a distraction. The hiring of Zook was Foley pushing his luck by trying to hire a hidden gem.
But it worked out in the end. 22 of the 24 starters on the 2006 National Championship team were recruited to UF by the Zooker.
