Very little FSU news going on right now. I suggest you enjoy reading up on other teams so that you'll better appreciate the entire football season.
The Past, The Present, And The Syracuse Orange - SBNation.com
It didn't take long for Doug Marrone to return a proud program to responsibility. What's next for Ryan Nassib, Chandler Jones and the Orange? Great preview.
SPORTSbyBROOKS " Did Vikes Swallow Purple Drank Served By Jimbo?
A comparison of what Jimbo said about Jamarcus Russel and Christian Ponder. Brooks, however, does not mention that Russel's uncle, Ray, passed away shortly after the draft. Ray was apparently Russel's only leadership figure and the only guy who was not a hanger-on to his career. Russel fell apart after that. Similar to Mike Tyson after Cus D' Amato died.
It's May and I'm ready for football. Ok it's too soon, but I do like starting to look at some of the games and players to get my football fix in. The NBA playoffs have been really good and that's tiding me over. When I look at the ACC this year, obviously every game counts but what I have here are the 10 games that I feel will decide the ACC this year.
These games are not necessarily the 10 best, but the 10 most pivotal, in not only who will win the divisions, but also in what could be the difference between a quality bowl and getting sent across the country. Therefore if you don’t see many Coastal vs Atlantic division games, it’s because they just aren’t as meaningful as inter-conference games to the ACC standings. If I were making a 10 best ACC games, then Clemson vs Georgia Tech and Florida State vs Miami would make the list, but not this one.
1) Florida State at Clemson September 24th
I consider the single most pivotal game in the game in the ACC for 2011. Here’s why: Florida State will be heavily favored to win the Atlantic Division. Clemson is the one of the few Atlantic teams that is capable of challenging the Noles. The Tigers are talented enough to beat the Seminoles, and the game is in Death Valley in what is always an electric atmosphere. This game would top my best ACC game of the year list too.
2) North Carolina at Virginia Tech November 17th
Virginia Tech never loses on Thursday night in Blacksburg . 2 years ago North Carolina went to Lane Stadium and beat the Hokies 20-17 in stunning fashion. Virginia Tech returned the favor by winning in Chapel Hill last season. The Hokies are always good, and the Heels still have a roster with a number of NFL prospects. This game might decide the Coastal Division.
Opportunities for Impact Freshmen: Losing several starters from the defense means there's always a chance for talented freshmen to step in a play. One freshman to watch is defensive tackle Elkino Watson out of Miami, FL. Watson was highly sought after by in-state powers Florida and Miami as well as by fellow Big East foe Louisville. Much like Todd Chandler in 2010, Watson surprised everyone on signing day by signing with South Florida and has a chance to step in and compete for playing time at defensive tackle right away. He and Chandler make for a very talented young defensive tackle tandem in Tampa. Excellent post-spring eval by Mark Ennis. I took this portion, however, because it shows just how far behind FSU & UF and even Miami that USF is in recruiting. Chandler and Watson were guys they just wouldn't offer. Not bad players, but if they are USF's stars, USF isn't going anywhere fast.
