Rivals released its Rivals 100 today and Florida State did very well, placing 5 current commitments in the top 100. The Seminoles trail only Texas, which placed seven in the Rivals 100. Considering, however, that Texas has double the commitments right now, FSU's recruiting haul is clearly the most impressive in the nation at this early juncture.
Rivals Florida (1) and Miami (0) lagged behind, though UF has several prospects right outside the top 100.
Florida State's five in the top 100 are (national rank overall): DE Mario Edwards, Jr. (#2), DE Dante Fowler, Jr. (#11), LB Markuss Eligwe (#42), RB Mario Pender (#53) and DE Chris Casher (#83).
Remember that this is very early in the recruiting cycle. The Rivals100 will certainly change as the year goes on, and verbal commitments are non-binding. Further, Fowler and Casher are far from locks to qualify. A prospect is obviously of no value if he doesn't make it into school.
There is also some question as to the worth of Rivals' rankings. Last year, there were notable errors and the rankings were considered to be rather poor by many observers as Rivals didn't have the same manpower devoted to scouting that was found with other services.
