Can't Spell "Scum" Without UM-2011 Edition
A Ponzi scheme that bilked people out of close to $1 billion sent Nevin Shapiro to prison for 20 years. He wanted to cut a deal; prosecutors wanted him to spill about ALL of his shady dealings. So now he's talking to the NCAA about how he provided improper benefits to UM players since 2001. He's naming names, and the NCAA is very interested in what he's got to say.
Incidentally, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of UM's gargantuan Pell Grant scandal that caused SI to call for the school to abandon it's football program.
Happy anniversary Miami!
Edit: Yahoo! Sports broke out the rubber gloves and went full-body-cavity on this scandal. The story was frontpaged, but is added here to keep continuity.

Nice.
The Golden Era might be the End of Days, instead.
I'm not in full on panic mode, yet.
The University has known about this for about a year now and is prepared ofr it. This wasn’t a suprise visit from the NCAA, and this is the situation where Shalala is actually the perfect President.
That said, it’s never good to have the NCAA snooping aroud campus.

You can't prepare for this.
The guy has claims, credit card and phone statements, pictures and corroborating accounts from other witnesses. How do you prepare for that? Besides, your president claims he didn’t give UM any information on what he might be telling the NCAA so how could you prepare for what you did not know?
MiNDSET? SWAG-ER-ISM!!!

Wherever you are, Trick, you are wise, indeed.
Correct, Sir Trick.
You truly are one of God's treasures, Trick
You’re right.
Happy anniversary.
It’s also the 10th anniversary of out last National title. When was the last one for you?

I'd only put money on one thing:
we’ll win one before Miami does. While I get a bit of shadenfreudistic glee seeing a major rival (and one that has been such a collection of giant jackasses for so long, above poster excluded) get nailed, it gives me NO pleasure that the words “death penalty” are being discussed legitimately for said program. We need a decent Miami program in the ACC, and we certainly don’t need it being terminated.
12 years.

I'm not so sure this Jimbo fella is the right man for the job.
Say what?
From a Rivals article:

Golden said the NCAA won’t let him query his student-athletes on whether any improper gifts were received from Nevin Shapiro, a former booster who was convicted in connection with a massive Ponzi scheme and is now pointing his fingers at UM. . . . “They’re not going to include me in this process, and to be honest with you what we’ve learned from some of the other incidents that have occurred recently is that (players are) not permitted to discuss it with me,” Golden said. “So if they do contact a student-athlete, they’re going to talk to them specifically and not include me in the situation.”
Sure Golden wasn’t there when this supposedly went down, but shouldn’t he be able to talk to his players about this (if for nothing else, maybe try to figure out who might need to sit for a while? If this drags out and some players are later deemed ineligible due to impermissible benefits or whatever, will Golden have to vacate any wins those players participated in – without being able to determine which players might have been involved in stuff warranting suspension or dismissal?).
It’s because the NCAA is concerned about “prepping/influencing” the kid’s answers when questioning about the issue. The kids all sign paperwork that say they have no knowledge of violating NCAA rules. So as far as the NCAA is concerned that information is truthful. Basically it’s the schools call on whether or not they want to risk playing the kids. Now, a kid can voluntarily ask not to play on their own – but rarely happens.
