Welcome to game week! Florida State football is back! The Seminoles welcome Louisiana Monroe to Doak Campbell Stadium. Unfortunately, the announcing crew is Pam Ward and Dan Hawkins (ESPNU, 3:30). Still, football is back.

A depth chart is expected today, though the first two weeks will be used as time for continued evaluation. We do not expect many big changes from the July 20 edition.

Fisher was quite complimentary of ULM:

"I am telling you, ULM's got 18 starters back guys and they are predicted to win the Sun Belt Conference and that league always, every year Middle Tennessee, Troy , FIU all those teams, they're good football teams. We got our hands full because on defense they are very unorthodox and they are all over the place. Blitzing, crazy packages. I mean not crazy, it is sound but different looks than you see all the time."

The Warhawks deploy a 3-3-5 defensive scheme, while the spread-based offense leans heavily on the ground game.

"On offense they are spread out, multiple formations, empties, runs, all the motions, all the gadgets," Fisher said. "They still run that football with great power and things. I mean they are a challenge to prepare for. They really are."

Fisher is talking up ULM quite a bit, and of course much is hyperbole, but they are a bit unorthodox on both offense and defense. They are also picked to win the Sun Belt over teams like Troy and FIU.

ULM sent out its game notes, and here are a few choice bits:

Luther Ambrose finished third in the 100m dash at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships; he needs two touchdown receptions, two catches and 497 receiving yards to move into the top 10 in ULM history in each category
Sports Illustrated picked the Warhawks to finish 8-4 overall and 7-1 in the Sun Belt Conference; SI prognosticated a three-way tie for the Belt crown with ULM, FIU and Troy

Rivals

Miami is starting Joel Figueroa at left tackle. I don't know for sure, but I doubt that he has greatly improved his lateral quickness from the previous two years. The Canes should also know today if the NCAA needs more time or more information in deciding how log to suspend the Shapiro 12.

Gator beat writer Jason Leisser says Brantley has not looked good in Gator camp and has been throwing a lot of interceptions.

The drawback to an easy slate
Very interesting article here on a possible year-end scenario.
