Based on the Football Outsiders FEI (Fremeau Efficiency Index), FSU's remaining schedule appears to support us finishing out at 7-1. This would gives FSU a regular season record of 9-3. Using the same index, Clemson appears to be heading to the ACC championship game and will be undefeated at that point. Virginia Tech will lose to Ga. Tech and Clemson and will not be in the ACC championship game with their two conference losses.
Instead, Clemson will face Ga. Tech in a rematch of their regular season game and Tech will be trying to avenge the only conference blemish on their record. I have been impressed with the FEI and therefore selected it as the most reliable method of ranking teams. Also, now that most teams have played 4 games, the "indexes" have more reliability than they did at the start of the season.
The following table shows the remaining games of FSU, Clemson, Va Tech and Ga Tech. The number to the right of each team is the current ranking by FEI.
One thing to keep in mind about the "indicated" final, regular season records is the home field advantage factor. Clemson will not be able to capitalize on their very strong home crowd as they travel to the two ACC teams that have the best chance of beating them...Va Tech and Ga Tech. We should all become Hokies and Yellow Jackets on the weekends those games are played. It should also be noted that Va. Tech travels to Atlanta. Even if Va Tech beats Clemson on their home turf, they still have to beat Ga Tech on the road in order to make it to the big game againjst a one loss (conference) Ga Tech team.
Taking home field into account, FSU may very well end up playing Ga. Tech for the right to go to a BCS Bowl.
