Just how close was FSU to losing coach Mark Stoops to the Akron Zips? You wouldn't believe it if we told you.

"The groundwork was there. It's no secret that Mark was impressed with the offer that Akron laid on the table, but in the end, FSU won the bidding war. Auburn was never really in this thing to be honest."
When asked about how lucky FSU fans should feel about Mark's decision, the same source went on to say:
"Stoops was LITERALLY seconds away from packing his bags and heading to Ohio if FSU had not come through with the counter-offer in the end."

Akron.....Really?
What in the world would possess Stoops to leave FSU for Akron? Makes zero sense. More money does not replace the exposure and opportunity to advance his career that FSU provides. I would certainly believe that he would leave to another high profile program, but Akron would be an incredibly dumb career move even at twice the salary.
