Beamer ball
hasn’t been special for a number of years, those graphs just prove that it has been more reputation than output for VT.
Al we heard as far back as the 99 Championship was how great their special teams were and we out specialteamed them in the bowl with Jano and PW.
It's difficult to maintain excellence over an extended period.
Which is why FSU’s run in the 90’s is so impressive.
Wasn't part of its "specialness" that he spent as much time on punt blocking/returns/fg blocking
compared to other coaches, and that by and large coaches have now devoted more time to it?
If all sports fandom is a form of emotional gambling, football is poker and hockey is Russian roulette.
Amazing how long media stereotypes can persist.
Give it a trite name (“Beamer Ball”) and it is almost impossible to de-bunkbc.
A current one is “Tim Tebow has been overcoming odds his entire life…he’s ALWAYS been told he’d never play QB.” Ridiculous. He was fawned over as a high school QB and one of the most highly recruited players after high school. We all know what he did in college. The only time there’s been doubts about his ability to play QB is now—and rightly so.
I didn’t read Tebow’s book, but I think the ghostwriter even tucked the myth into it. I know it was a featured element in one of his commercials. Like “Beamer Ball,” it’s a good story, it’s just not true.
He had awesome punt block/kick block teams
He didn’t have special punters or kickers. He just was one of the first to put starters on special teams and they blocked a ton of kicks.
