Tomahawk Nation's Preseason Poll
This afternoon Tomahawk Nation brings your way too early, completely meaningless, preseason top 25 BlogPoll. Really what we have here is a discussion starter. For certain, when the championship game ends in 2013, the 2012 rankings won't look anything like this. A promising team will lose 6 heart-breakers (Texas A&M), an undeserving team that doesn't play anyone (Houston, Southern Miss, etc.) will take their place, and a juggernaut will stumble...hard (Oklahoma).
Until all of that transpires, jump in and let us know what you think. Keep in mind this poll is not like the blogpoll during the season. Season blogpolls are based on body of work. Since we are months away from not only from the football season but also spring games, we decided a simple power poll would work the best. Someone left off the list that shouldn't be? Someone should be top 10 that isn't? There are still questions to be answered about the 2012 'Noles, but when looking at the teams around them, FSU just makes it into the top 10.

Seems particularly funny. Sure they have some talent coming back and Lattimore but they lose quite a bit to the NFL Draft and I considered them a highly overrated team at the end of this season. Connor Shaw???
I'd say put FSU at 6, and moe the rest down 1

they played LSU tough for 1 half
just ignore the fact they ended up losing 42-10… & lost to Boise, SCAR & MSU.
Championship!
They really don’t lose much off a football team that was very solid. I guess alot of it depends on where you come down on Aaron Murray but if you consider him an upper echelon SEC QB you have him coming back with their top RB in Crowell, top WR in Mitchell, five star TE Jay Rome stepping in for Charles and a top 15 defense in the weak side of the SEC. They are also bringing in a top notch recruting class.
Power poll, so division plays no roll
Crowell wasn’t very good at the end of the year. Already murmurs he won’t last. Don’t think I’d take them over 3 or 4 of tge teams behind them.

The OC was not a huge loss imo, he was only handling that job for a year and they produced better number the years prior.
But yes, they lose a bunch on D&O

I expect a massive regression from them
The “just throw it up, Shoelace” Offense won’t work forever. D is great though.

I wonder if Michigan fans realize
just how much DRob is responsible for their successes in the past few years… the guy is basically impossible to sack and as a result has scrambled on broken plays for 1,000+ yards. Plus Michigan loses some valuable players, esp. on the OL (see below) and some of the true frosh OL (e.g., Kalis, Magnusen) will be part of the OL rotation immediately—but again, this may not affect Michigan’s O b/c of DRob’s scrambling.

RB-Shaw
WR-Odoms
WR-Hemingway
TE-Koger
C-Molk
OT-Huyge

Championship!
to be honest, the B1G is down right now
(think PSU, tOSU) and Michigan doesn’t have Whisky on the schedule (again). Bama is a loss, @ND is the next toughest game, then Sparty, @Nebraska & @tOSU, which is the last game of the season.
Championship!
Agree
I think I’d slot ND & WV ahead of them.
Michigan definitely headed in right direction though.

the D is
but no one knows whether the O is b/c the current O w/ DRob (RichRod-like) bears no resemblance to the O that Borges will eventually run (West Coast O). Also there’s no clear QB in waiting to run the O in 2013 when DRob is gone, which will almost certainly result in a(nother) regression on O.
Championship!
Gardner is the QB in waiting, no?
My photo appeared in the Nightlife photo collage of the FSView for six weeks in-a-row. That’s who I am.
Garnder is the most senior QB after DRob but he wasn't recruited by Hoke/Borges
he was recruited by RichRod… to run RichRod’s O. Still there’s a chance Gardner can develop into a QB for a West Coast O (read: pure passing), he is tall and has a strong arm.
Championship!
True.
Right now, I think that you HAVE to have a guy lile DR at QB if you’re lucky enough to have him. If you cant run exactly what you want, oh well…adapt.
Plus, Hoke has done a good job of taking advantage of OSU & PSU’s troubles. Did a good job nabbing talent & gaining positive momentum. Personally he’s done much better than I thought he would

Last year
last year, they lose almost every receiver that you know on that team. I don’t know if they will even be close to as good. They also lose half of a defense that wasn’t that great.
While UGA is going to be much improved with tons of players returning and a pretty darn good defense. I never bet any money towards a steve spurrier team, he ruins more than he turns good.

No idea how people have Alabama at 2 already
considering everything they lose this year
Easy answer.
Because people are too stupid to disconnect what happened last year from what to expect next year.

Ditto
They are losing three games minimum next year. They will be very similar to Bama 2010-alot of talent but very young at key positions.
Do they also play a team coming off its bye week.....5 times?
Oh no, that’s right. The SEC is smart enough to learn from stupidity.

Duke v UNC at a bad spot for either school in basketball, do you? Seems like that game always comes at a very dramatic and profitable time. So the ACC’s got it down in buckets, in the hood, no?

Arguably the best coach ever, ridiculous talent, they oversign like crazy so they reload faster than anyone not names LDU…
2012 Bama will be like 2010 Bama, loaded with a ton of talent that will keep them top 10 in F/+ but lose them 2-3 games.
Then 2013 Bama… watch out.
2013 will be a new starter QB for FSU, veteran OL, and young defenders. Rebuilding year with Clemson peaking.
Then after a great 2013, Clemson will likely be rebuilding in 2014 as FSU is on it’s second year with a starting QB, veteran OL, and defenders who have matured.
A 6 loss uf team in the top 20? Nosah! They're not worthy of that ranking at all....

Does Foley lose his reputation as one of the greatest ADs around? His hires would include zook and mushamp bookending the uber-successful but meltdown-prone meyer (who was allowed to return after resigning).
Bama loses quite a bit
I’ve got them third in the SEC West. My top 5 are USC, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Arkansas. Georgia rode a soft conference schedule and a win against an overrated GT team to a respectable record. Don’t have them in the top 10, maybe not even top 15. I also think Stanford still has some success, maybe ranked around 20 or so.

They are turning loads of 3 star caliber athletes to play behind a very good OLine. As long as the defense never touches the field, they’ll win 7 games.

But, but...preseason polls are absolutely useless, and we all know it.
We can all attest to the general uselessness and futility of preseason polls. And yet here we are, making conjectures about conditions no school can control based on absolutely no reliable evidence whatsoever.
If we are going to do something useless and futile, let’s at least have some self-respect and base our polls on things which the schools can control-their OOC scheduling. Besides, what better way to stick a rhetorical thumb in the eye of preseason polling than to have East Carolina, Tulsa, and FAU in your top 5?

Everyone knows preseason polls are dumb.
I really prefer it when you list your top teams by tier to accompany the poll. Since there isn’t a specific order to nitpick about, I think it makes everything a lot easier to discuss.
In my own opinion, I think the top tier is limited to the same two schools that played in the national championship for the 2011 season.
After that I’d say it’s all about USC and OU.
Then you have the contenders with a shot in it. This includes our boys in G&G, as well as USCe, Arky, Notre Dame, UGA, and maybe Wisconsin.
When that’s all said and done, I’d say the remaining teams from the top 25 out there could fill out a final tier of “top” teams that most likely will not be contending for the ’ship, but that could very well knock off contenders.

I can't hear you..
I have devised a powerful ranking poll based on
uniform color and mascot ferocity. so far, historical correlation with on field success looks extremely accurate!
Notes:
1. “Puke Powder Blue” and “Tar Heels” have doomed UNC for life.
2. To solidify algorithm accuracy, athletic department budget had to be factored in and ultimately weighted at 96%

Oregon Ducks?
I’m curious why they are ranked so high. With the loss of Darron Thomas and LaMichael James I would expect their offense to take a step or two back. I was thinking a rank of 15 would be a better fit.
Hows their back up QB?
Supposedly he was gonna give Thomas a run for the starting job

I'd drop Michigan State down about 7-8
around where Virginia Tech/Oklahoma State are. They’re losing their top RB and their 3/4 year starting QB. Even with all of Boise’s losses, they might blow that opening game to the Broncos.
I’d give thought to Washington over Louisiana Tech, but that’s pretty much quibbling.
