2012 Recruiting Discussion Thread #42 [CLOSED]

Welcome to the recruiting discussion thread. Please refer to the Recruiting Board for information on prospects. We are asking readers comment here instead of the recruiting board so that the recruiting board will load quicker. Feel free to talk recruiting news, rumor, information, etc. Amateurs and experts are all welcome. No question is too simple. Have a projected class? That's fine as well.

Once this thread fills up, we will start a new one.

If you post information from another site, please indicate from where you read it.

Specific Player Questions (Check here before asking)

  • Mario Edwards Jr.- Edwards Jr has Official Visit Florida State. The only other school in the running is Texas. Most question though if he could insult his father's school at this point. He looks to be solid in his commitment to Florida State.
  • Dante Fowler- His recruitment has been very interesting. He's grown up a Florida State fan, but still has ties to Florida. He's taken multiple visit to Florida, including this summer when he was rumored to be leaning toward Florida. He also took in the beating Florida received from Alabama in early October. He's remained a Florida State commitment, but is scheduled to take official visits to University of Southern California, as well as Louisiana State. Those schools should not matter though, as he's been quoted as saying it's down to Florida and Florida State. His recruitment should be something interesting to watch. Dante Fowler looks to be solid to Florida State; Leonard Williams is the only wildcard that may change things.
  • Dorial Green-Beckham- FSU is not in the race for this receiver from Missouri. His brother is very sick and he wants to stay closer to Arkansas. That means Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, etc. Not FSU.
  • Leonard Williams- Many people thought Florida State was done at DE. Perhaps not. Leonard showed out at the Under Armour game, and looks to be an Auburn-Florida-Florida State battle. Experts are saying Auburn at this point.
  • Andrus Peat- One of the more intriguing players in this class. Although at first glance you question why a kid from Arizona with a brother at Nebraska would go to FSU, there is some interest here. Peat's grandparents surprisingly live in Tallahassee. FSU still isn't the favorite to get Peat, that's probably Nebraska, but it's not impossible for Peat to be a Nole come signing day. And there is no question that FSU would take him if he wants in. 1/4/12 update: Corey Long of ESPN.com is reporting he plans to visit FSU the weekend of January 20th. Most believe Nebraska leads at this point.
  • Jameis Winston- is a Nole. There's no talk of him switching to hometown Alabama. There's no visits scheduled to Florida State yet (that are known of), but there are none to Alabama either. No need to worry about this point. As mentioned below, he will official visit January 20th.
  • Mario Pender - from all our sources, he's enrolled and attending classes. There is no need to worry about Tennessee.
  • Ronald Darby- Five star Notre Dame decommitment from Maryland. Should be a FSU-Clemson battle. Rumor has it that Florida State leads because of their track program, and he wants to play with WR Marvin Bracy (fastest high school runner ever).
  • AJ Leggett- will enroll at Marshall. He's not coming to Florida State, where he would've been a sign and place.
  • Early Enrollees- JUCO OL Daniel Glauser, RB Mario Pender, P Cason Beatty

If it's not to much trouble.

Can we get a recap of the last thread in the first post of the new threads? I find when I wake up in the morning that I’m 200 comments behind and a new thread has already started. Or I could just be complaining.

Noteable recaps are updated by DA-2 in the body of the thread text at the top.

Even if UF gets Howard, Agholor and Diggs..

Are we sure they will be able to develop them.. I’m not confident Agholor will be successful at UF all i keep thinking about is how hyped Andre Debose’ was coming out of high school.. He hasn’t lived up to it so far.. Howard probably will be a good CB There, I’m not sure Diggs ends up there either.

Blake – TA&M
Agholor – USC
Howard – FSU ?? if UF then Leggett is FSU
Darby – FSU
Louis – FSU
Northrup – FSU
Goldman – FSU
Watson – FSU
Peat – ? Nebraska ?

Those are the final 6 guys in this class. That puts us at 21. Either Howard is a Nole or Leggett is. Peat is a possibility and we would make room for him. We can easily sign 22. I dont think we lose anyone at this point. A month ago I was worried our class could fall apart. Now I’m thinking we could close like a freight train.

I dont really think Fowler decommits is Williams comes aboard.

The only thing I’ve read is Fowler saying “3 DE’s is enough”. I know he’s seemed shaky at times but I’ve read nothing saying he’ll decommit if we add Williams. Maybe I missed a comment somewhere but I haven’t seen it. Wouldn’t they play on opposite sides of the line anyways?

Fowler seems like

the kind of kid that would feel disrespected. He’s an attention hound and signing Williams may be percieved by DF as FSU not showing enough love/respect for him. Agree/Disagree???

I was a little surprised

that given DF’s issues with his coach that CJF stuck with him. Maybe Jimbo knows that DF’s feelings are easily hurt and wanted to show him some love in an attempt to gain DF’s trust and loyalty. In any case, I’m just surprised that Jimbo would accept that. I also think that DF’s maturity issues will catch up with him at the next level. Getting Williams and losing Fowler could be a blessing

I’m convinced that as crazy as some of these paid site predictions are, they are made for a singular purpose (ir)regardless of the outcome.

They aren’t worried about looking stupid. All they care about is intriguing the next customer.

Now, even with saying that, some of the sites out there are way, way, way, way better than others.

And it varies from school site to school site. Most nationals are interested in the almighty dollar

One of the writers tweeted that he doesn’t control headlines, national editors do, after a particularly misleading headline.

Typically the individual contributors are what matter. IE J. Newberg for 247 seems to be pretty good typically. His e-fights with a certain contributor for another certain site are funny.

You’re looking at it in total time to total distance. Gotta break it down into seconds per yard. 10.3 seconds in the 100 meter is faster than 10.0 seconds in the 100 yard

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry Steadfast. Just tring to throw some info in

the Bracy discussion. He’s more than fast enough for me as well.
Makes rabbits look slow but thought I throw the following in this discussion as well…………"On March 26, 2011, Bracy won the men’s open 100-meter dash title at FSU Relays in Tallahassee. He clocked a 10.28-second time, a new career best. Bracy also tied for No. 4 on the Florida all-time list with 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Walter Dix, who clocked a 10.28 time as a Coral Springs High School senior in 2004.

In June 2011, Bracy ran away with the 100-meter dash title at the 2011 USA Track and Field Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon, clocking the second-fastest time in Florida high school history, 10.05 seconds. Only Jeff Demps, co-holder of the junior world record (10.01 sec), sits atop of Bracy in the all-time list. If it had not been for the wind-assistance (+2.2 m/s), Bracy’s time would be placed sixth on the IAAF all-time junior toplist, behind only Demps, Darrel Brown, Marcus Rowland, D’Angelo Cherry and Christophe Lemaitre."

For what it’s worth, Demps is devoting himself to making the US Olympic track team.

you can't do it that way.

It’s not linear, Also, where in the longer race the 100 yarsd fall makes a difference too. For example, Bob Hayes ran 100 yards in 8.9 seconds in the ‘64 Olympics— the fasest human ever clocked over that distance. But it wasn’t from a static start; it was part of a relay leg

by PeachTreeNole on Jan 20, 2012 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

Comparing 100 to 110 isn’t exactly linear either

Guy on a Buffalo

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

yard/second, I mean.

Not a straight comparison when the races are for different total distances. That’s why the statement “fastest HS runner ever” has to be modified by stating the particular type of race.

Dude, speed is all relative.

It really only matters if the players can “SEPERATE” themselves from everyone else on the field, in their peer group.

I recall Homer Jones doing that. Bob Hayes also did.

Numbers are nice, but as the smart guys point out…..everyone seems to be to “Shoot an angle” to make the number seem faster than it is, in this world of hype, in which we live.

Now that would make me smile.

If the kid has world class speed and could be ready for the Olympics by his senior year, then playing football, taking a pounding on his legs, and developing football musculature would not be in his best interest for that purpose. But likely more money in the long run.

15 going on 22?

If we don’t have any silents, then I don’t see how we are going to sign 7 of the top non-committed. This appears unrealistic, however, if we do crown JIMBO as KING.

Also, I’m sure that a lot of teams don’t have much room, Alabama trying to get people to come in January instead of September. I don’t think that works with the very top recruits.

The only recruits we are mentioning are the very best. If we drop down, what position do we take?

I dont think it fits in to Jimbo’s philosophy to “take, just to take”. IIRC prior to the 2011 recruiting cycle both Bud and Michael consistantly made points that Jimbo would only sign players that met the caliber of a top rated team and would wait until a new cycle rather than signing a kid that couldn’t compete at the highest level

Here is what we bring back

7 Christian Jones LB Jr.
48 Jeff Luc LB Jr.
57 Holmes Onwukaife LB So. RS
22 Telvin Smith LB Jr.
24 Terrance Smith LB So.
28 Nigel Terrell LB So. RS
11 Vince Williams LB Sr.
46 Vincent Zann LB Sr. RS

Losing Arrington Jenkins because of that idiot who left his motorcycle out for someone to steal really hurt here.

Moving Moody to OLB will help and hopefully we bring in Northrup.

We need to pick up 1 or 2 at least next year and totally reload in ’13, but we look solid for a good 2 deep in all 3 spots next year and “alright” for ’13 as long as a few chips fall our way and we can keep a few guys from going NFL. (Praying we can somehow hold on to Christian Jones for his SR year)

The Moody situation brings up a good point in regards to “how” we recruit. It is no secret that this staff prefers the “hybrid” athlete. i.e a LB or can play safety or vice vesa; a CB who can play Safety or vice versa.

Why do we even care all year round who we think is going to sign with us? Why not just wait till signing day and see who eventually does sign and evaluate them then? Aren’t we just contributing to these kids ego’s and the behaviors and games that they have been playing in recent years?

TE Christo Kourtzidis
OL Daniel Glauser (EE)
OL Melenik Watson
DE Dante Fowler, Jr.
DE Chris Casher
DE Mario Edwards, Jr.
DT Dalvon Stuckey (sign and place)
DT Justin Shanks
DT Eddie Goldman
LB Markuss Eligwe
LB Reggie Northrup
DB P. J. Williams
DB Ronald Darby
DB Colin Blake
K Roberto Aguayo
P Cason Beatty (EE)

I viewed him as the most important recruit in this class in the biggest area of need as we really only have one true HB in Freeman. Outside that we have a bunch of FB type guys in Beverly, Pryor, and JWJ. Without Pender, an injury to Freeman wouldve been devastating to the versatility of our backfield. * I dont mention Thompson due to the severity of his injury.

Is it possible Louis committed during his visit and the coaches asked for him to hold off until today

so that his public announcement would generate a little buzz amongst the recruits coming in this weekend?

Also, wasn’t it Louis that caught Jamies Winston’s 71 yard TD in the UA Game or was that someone else?

It does bother me when people start spouting off that FSU is a large player for kids they really aren’t. Peat for instance. I and others told people a longtime ago that dude is Nebraska bound and that’s basically been confirmed today.

It bothers me when people post BS rumors as facts because someone who follows recruiting casually might take it as fact. I just want FSU fans to have the most accurate info possible in the very inaccurate science of recruiting.

For 2013

QB
6 Skill guys (RB/WR/TE)
4 HS OL
5 DL
3 LB
4 DB

That’s a minimum of 23. But I think they could go higher at some spots

by Bud Elliott on Jan 21, 2012 9:28 AM EST up reply actions

OL recruiting

by rspknole1 on Jan 21, 2012 9:53 AM EST up reply actions

Not sure what you mean. What would you want to see done early.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 21, 2012 9:57 AM EST up reply actions

Ol

IMO, we should recruit a year earlier than we need them, like to have added three this year, all could be redshirted and had some playing time before we have to have them

by rspknole1 on Jan 21, 2012 9:59 AM EST up reply actions

The guys recruited in 2013 won’t be needed if my math is correct. I’d anticipate three of the four to redshirt.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 21, 2012 10:02 AM EST up reply actions

OL

Are you referring to the fact that the 2010 OL class consisted of Dan Foose and nothing else and now the 2012 class appears to be 2 JUCOs and 0 HS?

For 2013

At the minimum:
1 RB
1 TE
4-5 OL
3-4 DL
3 LB
3-4 DB
2-3 WR

Jimbo wants to take one every year. If Clint gets beat out by Coker, Winston or Maguire, he will not be on the roster as a scholarship player.

Plus, Winston cold always go pro in baseball after two years if things don’t work out.

The only way I can see not taking one is if Clint is way out in front of everyone else going into 2013.

Why would Clint not be on the roste in 2013 if he got beat out by 1 guy?

He would still be the back up in 2013 if that is the case. I would imagine it would take more then just one of those guys eating Clint out for him to not be on the roster in 2013

by Nole300 on Jan 21, 2012 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

Because they probably don’t feel like carrying five QBs?

by Bud Elliott on Jan 21, 2012 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

Don't see them getting rid of the guy at #2 just to keep from carrying 5.

Not a huge difference between 4 and 5 and the #2 guy will almost certainly be needed judging by resent history

FSU isn’t going to be winning anything big in 2013 anyways, so unless the difference is enormous, I think they’ll use the spot elsewehre.

Not to drag this on too long

by Nole300 on Jan 21, 2012 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

FSU won’t be the favorite to win the ACC in 2013, IMO. I’d pick CU in 2013. Loaded and lose very little off the 2012 squad.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 21, 2012 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

FSU wins it in 2012 and 2014. That would be three division titles and two conf titles in FSU’s first five years

I know you know this, but I'd just say it's way early to speculate either way.

FSU will be more talented than CU, we’ll just lose a lot of experience from ’12. But the guys replacing them will be just as talented and will see a lot of time this year.

As i said above

If Coker wins the starting job in 2013 then how comfortable can the coaching staff be with 2 RS frosh then they would be with an RS Junior with starting experience. I don’t think he has to blow them away. Just beat them out.

by Nole300 on Jan 21, 2012 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

Hard to imagine that Clint would be affected by the same roster churning policy considering

His dad is the Associate Head Coach. He isn’t going to be shown the door, unless RT isn’t here by the time CT is a junior.

He could stick around and help out the young guys while he learns about coaching from Jimbo and pops. Then one day he could be part of the noles staff. Grad Assistant QB coach etc. Anyway, I see him on the team in 2013 is some fashion.

Who is this chick. I believe this has to do with a specific female. And supposedly he is having a good time. Although I am sure he has a good time on all his visits. And knowing MEJ he will have fun, but I think he would need a visit that absolutely blew him away(no oun intended) and us simply collapse. He has spent tons of time actually in film seeing how he will be used and LSU doesnt have the time to get all that. If he falls for LSU after 1 weekend 10 days before NSD after his most recent visit and again not decommiting which he would do out of respect. Then I am as confident as I could be. Which still makes me nervous. But feel good about it.

back on point. Whos this chick?

Dalvon Stuckey

Unconquerednole1022 in his year end piece had some unflattering things to say about Stuckey with, perhaps, the most resonating being that he won’t qualify. I wouldn’t be upset if we lost this recruit, but am curious about the differing opinions (from a poster who’s a “neighbor” to him and from our coaches). I actually put him in a category with Northrup re not worried if we don’t get him. Does it look like he’ll get in and/or has this already been addressed in a previous thread?

Same with Northrup (lose him, I mean. I know I’m the only one around here who thinks that about Northrup.) Both are below our average player rating and apparent recruited skill level these days, from what I can see.

by NoleThruandThru on Jan 21, 2012 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

I admit I'm not a good judge of talent on film.

Half of what’s said about recruits to me is so dependent upon who they’re playing and how good the talent on their team is, I just don’t always see what everyone else claims to see. Going off of the ratings for Northrup and Stuckey across the four services, their rating numbers and stars are below the average for the rest of our class (Northrup: ESPN 79 which would only have three recruits below him on our board [including Ks], 247 unranked nationally, Rivals 5.8, [big time linebackers supposedly in next year’s recruiting cycle]; Stuckey: ESPN 79, 247 Ranked 222 with 10 or 11 of our recruits ranked equally or above and only 3 or 4 below [kickers included], Rivals 5.7 with only 3 of our recruits below him [K included], DLine arguably being our strongest area for the future following NSD). Just seems to me that these guys may not deserve the scholarships. Not seeing why Northrup is taking up so much time on these boards, anyway. I don’t want him if we are trending towards the kind of talent that Bud’s post on quality recruiting suggests.

Bud what do you think the chances Goldman redshirts? Erving could become a beast by next year and the fact that we have NLS and D. mitchell.

by seminole4 on Jan 21, 2012 11:09 AM EST reply actions

Excellent question. Probably depends on Jacobbi. When he went down last year he was playing great.

J. McDaniel (DT)
E. Dawkins* (DT)
M. McCray* (DT)
A. McCloud* (DT)
D. McAllister* (DT)
C. Erving* (DT)
T. Jernigan (DT)
D. Cummings* (DT)
N. Lawrence (DT)*
D. Mitchell (DT)*

That’s 10 defensive tackles. Ten. How many will be on the roster come fall and still at DT? I’ll say 7-8.

DTs

I dont think Jacobbi’s ankle will take it. He dislocated his ankle, that is not going to recover for him to play D1 football. It stretches everything out. If it was a lateral dislocation his only 2 supporting ligaments are done (ATFL, CFL) – I dont know his specific injury but don’t hold your breath. I think McCray’s knee is in similiar condition-tendon micro-tears and capsule stretched-making him too unstable to play D1 ball. I sell Sports Medicine orthopedic implants so have some pretty good experience with these injuries.

makes me sick for these two guys, they gave their all.

I sustained a total dislocation of my left ankle.

I was done after that. 3 years later I still cant run and I get unbelieveabley stiff and sore. When I asked the doctor if it would ever be the same, his reply was a simple no. He also said that everyday, for the rest of my life I would feel the effects of the dislocation

McCray has gotta be done

Possibly Cummings too if he gets passed by NLS and Mitchell. McCallister is interesting in that he actually played a good amount after Jacobbi went down but otherwise he’s no higher than 4th at any position (DT or NG). Would be weird to Redshirt the #1 DT in America but at that position FSU has more depth than anywhere else.

It's possible to come back after a dislocation.

I would say it would be smarter to sit out a year though. I dislocated mine in college and actually came back the very next year. In hindsight it wasn’t really smart to come back that soon (should have taken a medical). I run and train on my ankle all the time now with no problems at all. It may bother me a little every now and then, but it’s not really an issue. The only thing is my calf doesn’t look the same and it never will. It doesn’t help that I already had bird legs anyway!

Body, mind and spirit all need exercise. It'll take more than a day for your weaknesses to be revealed from the lack thereof but as time passes by the lack of strength will become more obvious!

Silent Commit

Long time reader, but first post.

I have been following recruiting for many years but do not understand the reasoning for a silent comit. Is it to keep other targets from knowing how many we are taking at their position? Could someone help me out here? Thanks.

by midtn-nole on Jan 21, 2012 11:54 AM EST reply actions

If you believe in silent commits…

A) To create “headlines” & media momentum
2) To not alert other programs & allow them to do the math on how many scholarships your program has left – To figure out where they will allocate resources or need to try to “flip”
D) To be able to sign and place quietly at JCs
Plaid) Some are conditional offers – If so and so doesn’t make it you’re in

by FSU on Jan 21, 2012 12:01 PM EST up reply actions

Silent

Thanks.

Would you not also be making it easier for a recruit to silently decommit since there would not be any backlash?

by midtn-nole on Jan 21, 2012 12:06 PM EST up reply actions

Personally....

I think "silent " commits are an internet phenomenon. If a kid commits on a trip, it would get out into the news cycles. It seems like silent commits are just kids who have given a strong indication of leaning toward one program but haven’t formally committed (some seem to think Northrup is a “silent”).

I think conditional (as FSU pointed out)l/“not commitable” offers are real (especially at summer camps) but silent commits I think are sketchy reports at best.

Part of that goes to slow playing a kid and not giving an hard offer… You plan for attrition of sorts every year. IMO 2-3. I thought we’d be higher this year w/ a incoming 23 new players (yes high) because of that. A bit still depends on APR as you roster flip. EEing is big with some of these guys because it helps them get done sooner and you can fudge with when you count them as coming in too.

2013 instate should be very good, but Bud & Michael could speak better about that than I.

Great outline FSU.

{ } To allow a commit who is going out of state, example from AL or LA, to FL, to commit without the commit becoming the object of vitriolic comments and pressure during his senior year until he announces on NSD or shortly before.

Questions about Northrup

What do you guys think of him? Would he ever crack the lineup at FSU or is he more of a depth chart filler with potential to play if he gets his work ethic up. Looks like he needs to develope his body and game, especially shedding blocks and reacting faster and moving to the ball rather than it coming to him.

by aznole85 on Jan 21, 2012 12:00 PM EST reply actions

I think many people were surprised with him this year.

He had over 160 tackles in something like 12 games. He has grown tremendously as a player since his junior year, and is the best linebacker in Florida.

Short answer: not a chart filler.

Trying to think of the phrasing here…

You can be concerned with the offensive line this fall and not be concerned with the 2012 class of oline recruiting.

Why? No HS OL brought in in 2012 would be an impact guy in 2012.

should we be concerned about the 2012 OL class 2-3 years down the road when none of them are left b/c they are jucos? Wont it hurt depth?

Apparently

a lot of opinions were formed during UA practices. I read a report where Fowler looked noticably more explosive off the line in drills than did Casher (No way was Casher in true game shape and he’s still moves better than Fowler laterally and is more agile overall IMO). Seems like you saw some things during practices that have you now convinced LW is better. Granted they are difference type of players to me (Fowler DE/OLB type while LW is SDE/3 Tech type).

by westcoastnolefan on Jan 21, 2012 3:04 PM EST up reply actions

I think LW and Fowler are different types of players

Fowler being more a DE/OLB type while Williams is more of SDE/3 tech hybrid. Lotsof opinions were formed during UA practices. They mentioned during drills that Fowler get off the ball much better than did Casher (Casher couldn’t have been close to in game shape though). So was this opinion formed after viewing both Fowler and LW is practice or just re-enforced?

Well said

Day by day I’m beginning to endorse this line of thinking. I think Fowler’s pass rush potentionial exceeds that of MEJ and Casher (Casher is a better all around player though) but I’ve worried about Dante’s “football character” and his capacity to put forth maximum effort in practice as well as games. Williams is totally different type of player than Fowler but if DF has issues with another kid being recruited at his position (And he does, trust me) then maybe just maybe LW doe indeed deserve a spot in the class over him. Like someone said, “there’s a public side of this and a private side of this. We’ll see which is true” in regards to Fowler. But all in all I think things will eventually sort themselves out and we’ll end up with a quality class. Fowler or not

Yeah they got Lane before Taylor!

Probably will get both. I want Green
I know a lot of people do not like D Henry (I personally like he as an ATH a lot)

Who doesn't like Henry?

The only question I heard is about position.

by Nole2005 on Jan 21, 2012 8:05 PM EST up reply actions

I was meaning at RB mostly, but...

I’ve heard some say they don’t want him for various reasons….not sure why.
I like him as an ATH first and foremost, but I would still take him as a RB

He lacks toughness. Not a good trait considering he will have to move to another position, probably on defense.

DR summed it up well

He is not a RB. Period. But he seems set on playing it. Now if he agreed to play on defense I’d love to see FSU land him, but for now we already have a big back in JWJ, no need for another one who is less skilled at the position than JWJ is.

Tcu has a ton to offer, I will say that

They could give him a lot to think about and he’d play sooner at TCU. Their CBs aren’t good.

New info on Fowler?

I’ve been reading this thread about Folwer not being in this class. Is there something new going on? New info besides his longtime flirtation with UF? I’m a little confused.

"In the Roman Missal of Saint Pius V, as in several Eastern liturgies, there are very beautiful prayers through which the priest expresses the most profound sense of humility and reverence before the Sacred Mysteries: they reveal the very substance of the Liturgy." -- Pope John Paul II

by TridentineNole on Jan 21, 2012 8:33 PM EST reply actions

Most believe that its Fowler or Williams

that Fowler wont stick around if Williams commits. And that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad trade.

by harper.rb on Jan 21, 2012 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks...

With the way this thread was going, I thought I had missed something specific regarding Fowler and UF. I personally like Fowler a little better than Williams, but I’m praying for both! I would rather land Fowler and have Williams end up at Auburn than us land Williams and have Fowler in Gainesville.

true, but

trading Fowler for Williams is a GREAT trade for whoever gets Williams…

General consensus

of some people tired of the flirtation with UF, tired of his headlines. Love to have him, but I’d take Leonard in a heartbeat too.

Tomahawk Nation- Great FSU football and English lessons!

by Ocalanole on Jan 21, 2012 8:59 PM EST up reply actions

If the coaches did decide that's the path they wanted to take, how sure are they that Williams would want in?

I don’t mind losing Fowler if we pick up a player of similar caliber. Losing Fowler and not landing Williams…eeek.

by Nole2005 on Jan 21, 2012 9:42 PM EST up reply actions

the real concern is that we don’t get either, which seems to not be mentioned by that many

Williams has many options and Fowler loves the game and he is playing hard

by matticoti on Jan 21, 2012 10:00 PM EST up reply actions

I should clarify

I’m not advocating for FSU to drop Fowler. I’m saying I hope our coaches tell him to cut the crap.

You're thinking of the "simulating a game day experience".

I believe if they were to go on the field in jerseys that it would be against the rules. In the locker room is fine though.

He needs # 17

That would be sick to see 17 out there making people miss and torching defenses. Winston might be the man to do it!

by imissrix on Jan 22, 2012 10:48 AM EST up reply actions

Correct it's retired, he can't wear it without Charlie's OK.

We used to retire numbers, but now we only retire the jerseys.

The numbers we retired before the change was made [#‘s 2 (Sanders), 17 (Ward), 25 (Biletnikoff), 34 (Sellers), and 50 (Simmons)] can’t be worn without permission from the former player, but those jersey’s retired [#’s 16 (Weinke), 28 (Dunn), and 55 (Brooks)] can be worn without the former players approval if the coaches agree.

That said, I don’t think Charlie would not allow Winston to wear #17.

If the rumor was true

and that was one of the reasons he was not interested in FSU. it would be smart to put him with these guys so he can get to know them. If they can befriend him that would be our best chance at landing him. That is assuming rumors were true and that was affecting his decision
