Ongoing/Off-Topic Discussion Thread #67

EDITOR'S NOTE: Many of you are worried that you are flagging a comment when you are trying to RECommend. That is not the case. When you Flag a comment a pop up box appears and asks for your reason for Flagging the comment. If a pop up box does not appear, you have not Flagged the comment, so disregard what appears to be a flag. Also, only Moderators can see the Flagged (turned pink) comment, so if you flag a comment, rest assured one of us will see it and take appropriate action if warranted.

You know the drill. If you have a off-topic comment, or want to start a off-topic thread, please do it here instead of in an existing thread on another subject. If you have a non-recruiting question, ask it here.

  • Please "recommend/REC" this post so it stays pinned.
  • New Members, please read through the Tomahawk Nation Welcome Guide! We put a lot of work into that and it should enhance your experience here.
  • New Members are also encouraged to read the Did You Know: A Guide to Better Using TN which contains some tips and shortcuts to make your experience here easier and more enjoyable.
  • For information on recruiting prospects, please refer to the Florida State Recruiting Board 2012. Our recruiting writers work hard and do a great job of keeping the recruiting information as current as possible.
  • We are asking our members to comment about recruiting on the current 2012 Recruiting Discussion Thread currently open in the Recommended Fanpost section on the right side of the page, instead of the recruiting board. There you can feel free to talk recruiting news, rumor, information, etc. Amateurs and experts are all welcome. No question is too simple. Have a projected class? That's fine as well.
  • The SPECIAL PAGES AND GREATEST HITS section is located on the left side of the front page for your convenience. Here you will find the links to some of the most referenced stories from Tomahawk Nation, the Current Roster Sorted by Eligibility Year, as well as other TN favorites.
  • If your fanpost is under 200 words or unlikely to inspire extended discussion, it will be deleted. It's not fair to have people take the time to write quality fanposts and have them pushed down by stuff that isn't fanpost quality.
  • Links to articles or quick blurbs belong in this thread or in the fanshot area. This also applies to links to articles with your opinion attached.
  • REMINDER: To recommend a comment, please click on the red actions button FIRST, THEN click on the red REC button.
  • REMINDER: If you get lost following a long thread, you can click on the "UP" button on the comment you are wondering about, and it will take you up to the original comment that the member was replying to.
  • REMINDER: When replying to a comment, please click on the red reply button FIRST, THEN type your reply.
  • REMINDER: Comments such as "First" or "Second" (etc.) posted to start a thread will be deleted and you may face a 1 day ban (or more). If you can't think of something substantial to post, either don't post anything or please go comment on another site.
  • WARNING: We don't allow profanity in non-game threads. Please don't do it.

UGA loses 33-30

WOW! I don’t even know where to begin. Richt needs to find a new job, he is not cut out for coaching. You let Sparty drive 84 yards in one minute to tie the game. There was one third down on that drive too. Pitiful! Then you run ONE play in OT and decide to kick a FG? How about going for the kill instead of playing conservative. You see that didn’t work out for you in regulation. Just don’t get it.Honestly. They pay him millions to do that? Seriously? What a joke. That guy is a bum.

no worries

You’ll start on a board that is buoyant enough that as long as you can do a pushup you should be able to get up. You can always prep by doing pushups on a bosu ball help prep for the combination upper body and balance demands.

They have lost and were embarrassed last night, but

VT went toe to toe with Michigan, and Gatech also dominated their game until giving it away at the end. I really dont care about ACC wins and losses in bowls as long as we win anyway. I hate Clemson, and I have little respect for VT as they play a weak schedule throughout the year only to blow it when they actually play a real team. I’m looking fwd to Blacksburg next year.

People around here admire Va Tech’s schedule. Did it ever occur to anyone that playing better competition it prepares you better for these situations. Kind of like we praise recruits who play higher class football. Probably why the SEC dominates and why we do better than these other hosers.

It does mask but eventually colors get brought to light

Yeah it got them there, but what good is being there if you stand no shot of winning. I know Boise disproves this, but I feel like you play the best you’re prepared and not shell shocked. Its kind of like the second time you faced a stud pitcher in baseball you had more confidence. You get familarity, etc.

I get the sense in scheduling similar, but don’t discount the fact that there are some advantages to tougher schedules. Might not be more, but they’re valid.

Tougher competition breeds tougher and consistent teams.

Jamil, Jamil, Jamil,

Tell NorFla_Nole and the other haters above that you forgot you’re double parked and, though you’re sorry, you simply have to go. Then get up from the hater table and walk out. What separates Tim Tebow from Trent Dilfer? Besides a worse defense? Oh and he’s so bad at throwing that the Steelers didn’t even think it necessary to cover players more than 20 yards downfield?

by RollNole5 on Jan 10, 2012 9:51 PM EST up reply actions

Uh huh.

Doug Williams was derided in Tampa for years, but got it done and won a Super Bowl for Washington when the situation was right. With Tebow it’s a matter of perspective just the same. Even if your hyperbole about coverage 20 yards down field were true, he took what they gave him and he exploited it. I’ve read a lot on this site about what a fake he is, etc. Seriously? Folks can’t find sports figures with actual character deficiencies to knock instead? Who gives a darn if the guy ever wins an AFC Championship (except Denver fans) or if Pittsburgh had injuries? He’s a clean act in the public spotlight who, by the way, has taken advantage of whatever holes have been yielded this year and won, baby.

by SolidNole on Jan 10, 2012 10:56 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t care if he’s fake or not. Personally, I dont think he is, although his act is ostentatious and annoying. He’s a bad QB who has a good defense and good luck.

This is similar to many arguments I hear about the guy!

So, how can you not think he’s fake, but believe he has an “act”? Simply put, the dude has shown only good character so far in his public life and has a ton of media attention on him. That’s it.

I just said he’s not fake, but I find how he presents his faith to be obnoxious and a put off. See CornNole’s scripture above. Also whatever the verse is about pharisees praying in public. After the TD catch by Thomas, you could see him run to the endzone making sure the camera was following and THEN get down on one knee to pray.

Matthew 6:5

What were they seeking to gain by their street corner praying and what’s Tebow seeking to gain? To me, that’s the diff. I actually do question this about the guy myself, for what it’s worth. That is, how is this to be judged?

by SolidNole on Jan 11, 2012 4:34 PM EST up reply actions

Seeking to have people see how pious they are? I don’t think I have the right to judge his actions, without knowing his intentions. I just know I wouldn’t go about it the way he does. There is a great article on Grantland about him and his beliefs.

I think he meant 5:5 alone. And if we’re drawing from Matthew, Chapter 7 seems to apply here, too. Ultimately, perhaps you’re seeing something in the man that I’ve missed. From what I see, he doesn’t deserve the vast amounts of ridicule he’s received. I don’t think someone has to be as quiet about their interests as, say, Cal Ripken Jr. to simply be accepted for being squeaky clean. The person Matthew is quoting in that verse is pretty stinkin’ high profile, and is yet more humble than any. CornNole seems like a smart person. Perhaps he understands making a Hermeneutical use of verses. Otherwise, it may be just a one-liner for the audience… I will leave it for you guys to follow up and then I’ll drop the thread. Pee South.

If you are going to put your faith out there as a public figure, you are asking for ridicule and for it to be scrutinized, such is our culture. And as CornNole posted above, most people (myself included) despise him because of how the media covers him. I enjoy watching him QB in the NFL because he is no longer beating the piss out of FSU and he is shaking up the establishment.

If you think that win makes Tebow great or proves he has a future leading team as QB to multiple SB wins, what is Mark Sanchez?

What’s even more disturbing is that saying he had a great game isn’t enough for Tebowphiles. You have to worship at his feet or you’re hating (I’m not saying you’re one of these extremists but this is a great place to address this).

I know I came on strong in my initial post — part of the fun of the site (see my silly wording). I WAS addressing those around here who denigrate the dude at the drop of a hat and ATTACK HIS CHARACTER! To me that’s cheesy, given what we know of him. What was it Colin Cowherd said yesterday that, I thought, summed this up well? If you hate someone, it’s because 1) they’ve hurt you, 2) you’re afraid of them, 3) you’re jealous of them and want to be like them. That’s coffee shop psychiatry that hits pretty close to the mark in this matter, I’d say. So, no, I wasn’t addressing the ambivalent masses with regards to Tebow. Only the haters who are catagory-3ers above.

Right. I compare it to SEC fatigue. People are just tired of hearing about it (Pro & Con) from news media.

The kid helps a team win games, ok…we get it. But by that rationale so did Alex Smith with the 49ers and you would think ESPN hasn’t heard of him in comparison. Its the overkill that drives people nuts.

It's funny.

Drew Brees has given thousands and thousands of his dollars away to a very poor city ravaged by hurricanes.

He recently made history by breaking Dan Marino’s single season passing mark, and his team has a much better shot at winning the super bowl than Tim Tebow.

However, on the day he broke the record, I heard Tim Tebow more than Drew Brees on sportscenter the next day.

Unbelievable.

His continuity with the WR corp has been ridiculous. Him, Rodgers, and Brady each had great continuity.

As a random aside, I think a much overlooked impact of the contact rules that has just recently been exploited is the effect it has on TEs. Obviously it has been a boon for slot receivers, but it has been just big for TEs.

If you can’t get a good jam off the line, an LB can’t keep up with guys like Gronk, Hernandez, Finley, Witten, Graham, etc and their big bodies have always been an obvious advantage over DBs. I don’t think this is an obvious revelation, but I figured this would be a good place to float it.

Tebow reminds me of that movie “Being There” with Peter Sellers. Chauncey was the gardner and had about a 10 I.Q. After a car wreck he was taken in by a wealthy D.C. family. They thought he was brilliant. When they asked him about the economy he said, water it and it will grow. They then ran him for president.

The movie Forest Gump also comes to mind. It is my considered opinion that many people equate a religious person as someone who goes around talking about it all the time. Tim strikes me as one of millions of Christians who think they have all the answers and all anybody needs to do is listen to them. It is all so simple. Unfortunately with religious or philosophical understanding it is something that is constantly growing and changing. I think most people would agree with that anyway. Tim like many of them to me seems almost like arrested development.

Plato himself equated philosophy with one who loves the truth. In other words a philosopher according to him was a lover of truth, which is to me the highest of religions as the easterners say, there is no religion higher than the truth. I think there is a lot to be said for that. In fact the Greek translation for religion translates roughly as pathway to truth.

I am convinced Tebow will eventually be traded to a team in the Philippines.

The whole situation reminds me of my first job out of college.

I worked as a scientific observer onboard fishing vessels in the North Pacific and Bering Sea. On one side was the NMFS and ADF&G (government entities, fed and state, respectively), on the other was the fishing community. NEITHER really bought into the other’s side, could feel the other’s pain, when it came to quota setting and conservation. Cu-raziness. Both thought they were right and couldn’t hear the other. What a cluster that was and the resources got hammered. I think the same holds true for believers and non-believers. They don’t listen or consider the other, actively, all the time. They simply categorize the other as wrong and dismiss them. In this believer’s opinion, a true Christian doesn’t think they have all the answers. Just the opposite. So, the one unknown I have with Tebow, as I mentioned in a post above, is that I do not know his true intentions. Nor will I. However, on the face of it, as is the most I have to go on with anyone, he is a dude who appears to live his credo, and that credo is a positive one. And he does that in spite of people hating him or, at the least, attacking him. Most excellent. I do totally get the saturation thing with him and am tired of seeing him everywhere. So, I turn the channel.

No I had not heard of this instructor but wish that I had. My advisors told me to major in philosophy or psychology but being young I decided business was the way to get a job. Big mistake, I hated it. One of the instructors (Rahn) became advisor to Reagan or something along those lines. He used to refer to protesters as (philosophy majors).

The philosophy instructors cannot teach what they believe anyway due to tenure and peer pressure. I would equate it to a similar situation Galileo (Michelangelo’s older brother, they don’t tell you that) must have faced when he insisted it was really the earth that revolved around the sun and not vice versa as the Jesuits insisted or Socrates insisting the world was not flat. Interestingly the Jesuits based this belief on Ecclesiates which stated the earth remained in it’s place.

A Christian I know once tried to tell me that Jesus’ last name was Christ or Nazareth. No his last name was Bar-Abbas and he was related to the so called Barabbas that was sentenced to death as a thief when Jesus offered to take his place. The Christo is the light force that animates all matter similar to what we see in a nuclear explosion. Jesus was the son of the Christos (Greek for one anointed with light) as we all are to one extent or the other, but I agree with easterners that some end up here from various levels of consciousness or the 12 heavens. Jesus appears to be even beyond those 12 levels or as the Tibetan monk Lobsong Rampa would say (beyond the tenth.)

It seems to be little understood that the council of Nicea led by the British warlord Constantine took various religious tracks including the dead sea scrolls and fashioned them into the current construct system called the bible. It was to hold a declining Roman empire intact and place all religious discussion under the control of the priests. It also fills the coffers and allows the priests to keep track of the locals through confessions. At the time it was even debated if Alexander would receive the same divinity as Jesus.

The Essene Gospel of Truth from the dead sea scrolls to my way of thinking anyway more describe what Jesus was all about. His original words sound more like native american philosophy than anything and exalt nature and the life force above all mentioning living in accordance with the heavenly father and the earthly mother to avoid ills and live in accordance with the divine. This seems to be a message severely distorted by the suits and ties.

http://essene.com/GospelOfPeace/peace1.html

I have come to the conclusion that one is taking a chance when they trust anyone wearing a tie or lipstick!

I suppose we all like to feel we are fairly well read

Then again if you are reading the wrong thing it is worse than not reading at all. I have found that what I actually know was not a result of the few books I read at FSU.

krishnamurti
“There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.

Belief is merely an escape from a monotonous, stupid and cruel life. krishnamurti goes on to say in effect that religion is something you should know, not believe. You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems and suffer and understand, for all that is life."

Religion is the frozen thought of man out of which they build temples."

Are you familiar with Diogenes, the Greek philosopher?

He is one of my favorites. Some of his better quotes:

Diogenes stood outside a brothel, shouting, "A beautiful whore is like poisoned honey! A beautiful whore is like poisoned honey! A beautiful whore . . . ". Men entering the house threw him a coin or two to shut him up. Eventually Diogenes had collected enough money and he too went into the brothel.

Diogenes was asked why he always begged. “To teach people,” replied Diogenes. “Oh yes, and what do you teach?” people would ask him scornfully. “Generosity”, he replied.

On one bright, clear day, Diogenes was walking up and down the market place, holding a lighted lantern high in front of him and peering around as if searching for something. When people gaped and asked him what he was doing, he replied, “I am looking for an honest man.”

I really dig that.

Reminds me of the first lecture of a philosophy professor (Merrill Hintikka, anybody know her) I had at…FSU! Don’t think she was a Christian, but she advised something similar that day. Big picture. Beyond the classroom. Not sure how it comes to mind with Tebow, but I love the quote.

Matthew 6:1

Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

And the biggest one of all

Matthew 6:5

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

We've been there -- see above. (Is Matthew 7 less than "the biggest one of all"?)

I don’t believe verses are meant to be zingers, but rather truths to be understood in the context of the rest of scripture. If this is not done, misunderstanding and use for OUR purposes is prone to occur. Additionally, we could go back and forth ALL day long without understanding His will. The archetype for this, in my opinion, is the “eye for an eye” verse.

You know I was considering bringing those up myself.

Be aware however there is little talk in the churches on exactly who wrote the bible. The council of Nicea wrote it from various religious tracts as I state above, under Constantine. Before he sacked the Vatica (Vatican) and killed the Vedic priests. it was Hindu, the largest religion and largest population in the world. The vatican, Taj Mahal, Kaaba at Mecca (a temple dedicated to Shiva) and many other places were Hindu temples. Constantine had them killed in order to bring the glory of Christianity to the world. In fact the word Christos is Hindi and comes from Krishna, one who came early in Vedic history bearing the light.

There is a lot of misconception concerning Hindi, it simply means the search for truth. Most people can get on board with that.

Papacy was "a Vedic priesthood" until Constantine the Great killed the Vedic pope to replace him with the head of the hitherto unimportant Christian sect. This instantly ensured the Europe-wide triumph of Christianity because of the "sacred sway of the holy hoary Vedic priest known as the Shankaracharya" There has been debate over the veracity of his faith because he was baptized only on his death bed.See article on the Constantinian shift. He was British born.

The chief priest (the Pontifex Maximus) was from the time of Constantine forced to call himself a Christian priest. Maximus is the Sanskrit term Mahattamas, i.e. "the topmost".

The emperer Constantine convened the council of Nicaea around 369. He called all the "holy men" of the day who were "under divine guidance" to meet in Turkey as it was convenient for all. Eusebius was the only deacon invited due to his recent war record where brought the sword of the Lord against Arianism. The idea of the trinity was decided by a council vote where Constantine convened the assembly in purple robes and glittering precious stones. It was to be decided immediately to bring stability to a beaten down empire under the glory of Christ. All references to reincarnation were dispensed with as such an idea did not lead to control construct.
The council decided in favour of celebrating the resurrection on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox. Many things were ironed out including whether Jesus and God were made of the same substance, if Arianism would be included in the new book of essays and short stories they were working with, whether or not Alexander of Alexandria would also be equal with the son of God. It was decided he would not be included and then from there all books concerning Arianism were burned and anybody caught with them would be executed.
This edict was one to take lightly either as Joan of Arc, Mother Shipton and hundreds of thousands thereafter found out when they were burned at the stake.

Doc,

You have done a lot of writing here and obviously believe what you’ve written. So does someone else, apparently. I won’t accuse you of rampant sophistry if you don’t begin posts with stuff like, “Be aware however there is little talk in the churches on exactly who wrote the bible”. After all, the missing commas offend me.

It is something that is rarely spoken of by pastors

That being who wrote the bible. Not trying to stir up a big argument but there are other views than the established mainline viewpoint. This man points out a few things he refers to as sophistry. I happen to agree with him.

I don’t know that I would call the Mahabharata
sophistry. It was written 2300 years ago and took 600 years to write it and it contains a working diagram of a sophisticated flying craft.

It is written in Sanskrit which was once the universal language. The Shaman of Russia still speak it and the Navajo language is still pure Sanskrit or Sumerian if you will.

A straight up trade

If Bama gets Schotty, any QB that goes there would be a fool. He can’t develop them, and when they leave, they flourish. Brees, Pennington, Favre for examples. He sucks at calling run plays (which is a major strength of the Alabama offense) and has had 1 offense in 6 years cracks the top 15 in the NFL with the Jets (4 of those 6 years we were in the 20s, the other year was, I believe good for a 19th place ranking).
Perhaps, play-calling would be easier for him in college (if he goes). He’d probably be a hell of a recruiter though.

Simple solution, Corn:

You know those paint shakers you see at Home Depot? Just get yourself a very large refrigerator (perhaps a walk in) and a five gallon bucket of the all natural stuff and place the entire contraption, shaking all day long, within the fridge. Then, whenever you want a PB&J, simple! Just break out a butter knife, stop the machine, pop off the lid using a slotted screw driver and git you some. Incidentally, it warms my bowels that you think of us as the ones to turn to when you have such anguish in your life.

The female pres at Berkeley who is under pressure for handling student protests with pepper spray and batons is also connected to this outfit. There are more allegations that second mile people were pimping out young boys to rich donors. The fact that his lawyer impregnated an under age female some years ago is not a feather in his cap either.

by duvalnole on Jan 14, 2012 8:19 PM EST up reply actions

Organization, attention to detail, intensity, techinical knowledge of the game – The boiler plate stuff. But IMHO what sets him apart are:
A) He can see the game as a coach and a player simultaneously. So he understands how to relate what he wants on the field and what the pitfalls the players (especially at the QB position). For example, he eliminated a lot of the sight adjustment by QB/WR on blitzes because he understood system needed to be simplified because of no training camp and he was dealing with a QB with a lack of confidence.
2) He’s been around coaching culture growing up so he has some firm beliefs of knowing exactly what he wants (TEs, Running Game, Power Football) and so has a lot of confidence
D) He cares about W.I.N. stats (What’s Important Now) rather than overall stats of guady yardage, etc. So it doesn’t matter what you think of how he does it – He’s looking for the best way to move the football and stop you from moving it.
Plaid) He’s a good looking guy. Studies show attractive people tend to have more success in convincing people in their message

Shows how well Urban’s system prepares QBs for the league when sight adjustments confuse them 5-6 years into their career.

My photo appeared in the Nightlife photo collage of the FSView for six weeks in-a-row. That’s who I am.

by RollNole5 on Jan 15, 2012 12:17 PM EST up reply actions

Now, now..

It’s not always on the QB. Receivers and QB both have to “see” the same thing. Receivers while running their routes and the QB pre-during-post snap while they organize their body to make a throw. There are a lot of moving parts, meaning there’s a larger chances for error, when more people having to see the same stuff exactly the same way.

Some coaches use multiple formations. Some coaches uses multiple personnel. Some coaches use motion. All use a combination of the three. But once the ball is snapped you can only attack the defense in so many ways – Its why the QB finding the safeties & understanding where the MLB are important. Eliminating some of the machinations while reduces diversity allows for less mistakes.

I wouldn’t put it all on Urban (Although I’ve not been a fan of taking so many snaps from the shotgun and its a endless debate here at the casa). Because you can make the argument that Jeff Tedford’s QBs have struggled (save Rodgers) in the NFL to some degree.

Success in the NFL (IMHO) is so system based. It has to be a marriage of both the right system (packages of plays and conceptual approach to attacking the defenses initially AND once it adapts) the QB’s skills (physical – running/passing, processing and emotional make up) and talent that surrounds them (OL, receivers & running game). A QB is one situation may struggle in another because they aren’t the right fit.

by FSU on Jan 15, 2012 12:59 PM EST up reply actions

It is mostly on the QB to call the sight adjustments presnap, no? I don’t think that sight adjustments fall under the same category as option routes and the like, so maybe its just a semantics thing.

I don’t think shotgun snaps are the issue, (see NE, GB) I think that Urban gets his players in trouble by having such simple play action, one read plays. It’s obviously very effective in college, but doesn’t prepare receivers or QBs for the league (not that that matters, or should matter, to him). Thats why Tebow’s only throws are the skinny post over the middle after he has sucked the LBs up with a play fake, or deep balls in man coverage.

Completely agree with your point in the last paragraph, and I think you could apply all of that to NCAA football as well.

My photo appeared in the Nightlife photo collage of the FSView for six weeks in-a-row. That’s who I am.

by RollNole5 on Jan 15, 2012 1:33 PM EST up reply actions

Both and both when dealing with the blitz.

My premise it that with heavy, heavy shotgun is more getting used to having to turn your back that you don’t get out of shotgun. You have to “trust your eyes” initially (You know what you saw and you anticipated correctly what’s suppose to happen next happened next when you’re not looking when you turn your back) and that’s hard to get over do if you’re not used to it.

Tebow’s issue are less Urban IMHO and more his limitations. I think a lot of people don’t feel as though he can hurt you at all three levels (short, intermediate & deep) throwing the ball accurately and on schedule. Part of that is mechanics. Part of it is that to succeed in the past, he really hasn’t HAD to do that. Being able to do that creates indecision in the defense and that’s what moves the chains.

So to create the indecision part the Broncos used some option. Defenses weren’t sure at what they were seeing and what they wanted to specifically do – No defined concepts of “If we see this, then we do this” by DCs. With Tebow, the indecision by defense is will he run or not.

With Tebow it’s all about will the ball be delivered on time. Not going to into why I think e’s surer going to his left and hitting a post. My point with Smith was more attacking the biltz. Overall I think they’re asking Smith to do a lot on offense. It’s the blitz part where Harbaugh said, we don’t need all this stuff. Keep it simple – Get the ball out, don’t take a sack, don’t get hit.

I’ll be curious to see what defense decide to try to deal with Newton next year once they’ve had a year to study what he “likes” and also how he grows as a QB in the offseason to expand what he can do. Same with Smith (As an aside, I believe Newton would of destroyed the record books at UF and would be better than Tim) Same with Tebow.

Ugh. I just realized you got me to write a Tebow post.

by FSU on Jan 15, 2012 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

So you were referring to shotgun heavy offenses in college affecting NFL progression? I agree on that.

Tebow’s biggest limitations, as you alluded to, are that with his wind up, he needs to have otherworldly anticipation. And to be nice, with his mental “limitations” make that impossible for him to do no matter how hard he works.

Additonally, you can play Tebow like you play a triple option FB, sending a DE or a LB down to tackle him, whether it is run or pass. And then force him to make throws outside the hashes and consistently.

Newton would have been sick at UF, way better than TT. Newton has better mechanics, athleticism, accuracy, and deep ball throwing ability. He’s gonna be a beast in the NFL. Although you may be right about him having a sophomore slump due to how easily everything has come so far. Not sure he will work to improve as hard as he needs to to combat the Def adjustments you are alluding to. Although he has that Mike Vick type ability where no matter what the defense tries, he can just beat it.

My photo appeared in the Nightlife photo collage of the FSView for six weeks in-a-row. That’s who I am.

by RollNole5 on Jan 15, 2012 2:45 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know if Tebow has a high functioning football intelligence or not. It does appear that he has hesitation – Which is my idea of his limitation. It’s as though he’s not sure and being uncertain will eat you alive in sports when dealing with the best of the best.

by FSU on Jan 15, 2012 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think the guy is going to be successful long term in the NFL and can’t believe he’s gotten this far. I think what he’s done this year is more fluky than anything, but we do have to recognize he’s only played 16 games, or something like that. That’s the time to expect hesitation. No?

by SolidNole on Jan 15, 2012 6:16 PM EST up reply actions

im more annoyed with ESPN shoving him down our throat. Alex Smith/SF turnaround is a GREAT story but you would think that they never existed watching ESPN.

It’s like the Brett Farve thing. The say, “Well people watch it.” We watch it because you’re shoving it down our throat and there’s no alternative — You’re SportsCenter you dominate the market, duh. There isn’t counterprogramming.

Sorry…just on an annoyed rant with media produced Tebowmania

Even today we are getting Tebowmania retrospectives…SMH. Even ignoring the SF/Smith angle, the SF/NO game was an all time classic.

One of the best games I’ve seen in forever. That run my Smith was BIG time. If TT had done it they would singing HIS praises. Smith does it and the praise is “It was a good call by the OC”… SMH

I think it was a great call and perfectly executed. Smith did tightrope quite nicely.

Right. It’s both. The player and the play call design. Not just one guy that Media types would make it out to be.

We scold Jimbo for taking risks with players in garbage time

(and rightly so I think).

And then you see no less a football mind than Bill Belichick with his star QB still in the game in deep garbage time, and even worse he lets him PUNT the ball!

Just doesn’t add up.

Quick punting isn’t going to get anyone injured. And with how good NE’s line is at protecting Brady, his chance of injury is nil. Not to mention Tom doesn’t get run like EJ does.

NEWBERRY AND O-LINE

Any chance he moves to O-Line?? We are so deep on the D-Line and if we get L. Williams that’s 4 DE in this class. I know he played OT in the UA game last year??

Not sure if this was on here before. If it was sorry.

Was at the Patriots-Broncos game and saw a kid in all Tebow UF stuff coming out of the bathroom. Everyone was razzing him and his response? “I went to school with him. I was getting my PhD when he was getting his Bachelor’s.” Yeah buddy, I’m sure Tebow was in all of your classes and you guys hung out all time. He earned his Tomahawk Chop and “Go Noles!” taunt.

UF Offensive Coordinator

Maybe I missed the discussion, but what is the general consensus on the new hire for the UF offensive coordinaor?

RWHUGHESJR

Annoyed Sports Radio Host: I'm looking for one brave Gators fan to call, just one. Oh so Gators fans talk trash all the time but when they play a game and lose nobody has the guts to call in?
Leonard: What are Gators?
Henry Desalvo: Football. College.
Confused Sports Radio Call In: I'm a Gators fan.
Annoyed Sports Radio Host: And what do you have to say?
Confused Sports Radio Call In: You said that Gators fans don't have the guts to call in.
Annoyed Sports Radio Host: Your point?
Confused Sports Radio Call In: My point is that I'm calling you now.
Leonard: [notices Snake and Eddie escorting Arthur wearing dark-colored pantyhose on their head] Is that him?
Henry Desalvo: I think we got Gator fans.

wait and see.

honestly I think Bama was correct in letting UF have him. Guy was an OC for 1 year with an established offense. I mean, even Larry Coker couldn’t mess that up.
