Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

"Few major programs are pursuing him. His father said Florida A&M and Division II Florida Tech are the only schools to offer a scholarship."

Seriously? Either Pease is the greatest discoverer of hidden talent ever or Florida is now employing the Miami recruiting plan. Offer ALL the scholarships!

Either way, I'll stick with Jameis Winston, THANKS JIMBO!

Why not recruit like Miami?

They’ve already started hiring like Miami.

Probably better than Florida's.

It just amazes me that, with all their money, that Musky and the Black Eyed Pease is the best UF can come up with.

Paxton Lynch

I have never heard of him, but if UF makes an offer-WOULDN’T YOU COMITT RIGHT NOW?

Hmmm, let me think, florida or Florida Tech?

Though FAMU may put up a battle. Tallahassee > Gainseville

The sad part is, thats completely true. Especially if you aren’t a highly sought after QB, you’d probably think you’d get more playing time at FAMU, and especially experience a better college life in Tallahassee. FAMU might win that recruiting battle

Wow, FIT

My good friend went there, except he graduated two years ago and they didn’t even have a football team at that point. Pretty sure their best sport was hockey, and their rival is Embry-Riddle. I’m surprised FAMU would be looking at a guy whose other best offer was FIT…

As much as I hate Boise St.,

I wouldn’t call Moore so so. He’s as good as it get between the ears.

True, and this kid could be lights out in the film room too. But the collective total of smarts and athletic ability make him not a top choice

That's what they said about Drew Brees, too.

Of course, Moore reminds me more of a Ken Dorsey, and we know how that NFL career panned out.

I didn't say he'd be the next Brees.

I think if he goes somewhere and sits for 2 or 3 years,

puts on some weight, and gets eased into role, he could be starting QB. More realistically, he’ll be a serviceable backup.

I’d be okay if the Gators found the next Kellen Moore.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

So would I.

Guy on a Buffalo

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

I’d love it if for the next three years the Gators’ starting QB went:

3,500 yards 39 TD’s 3 INT’s
3,800 yards 35 TD’s 6 INT’s
3,800 yards 43TD’s 9 INT’s

I’d take that in a heartbeat.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 3:58 PM EST up reply actions

Yes because obviously his success would translate exactly like that playing in the SEC and against FSU every year.

What was I thinking.

Guy on a Buffalo

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 3:59 PM EST up reply actions

Hey, you said that Kellen Moore was so-so (which he isn’t) and I said I’d take a QB like Kellen Moore (thus implying that those stats would transfer, because that’s what me saying that, means).

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

No it doesn't.

It means the person transfers over. So you get Kellen Moore, with his good football IQ, but also his awful physical ability.

Guy on a Buffalo

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

Okay. If we want it to go that way, I’d have taken Kellen Moore the last two years instead of Brantley.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 4:07 PM EST up reply actions

I think Moore would have looked a lot like Brantley the last two years. At least Brantley could threaten with the deep ball.

Guy on a Buffalo

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

From a decision making standpoint, Moore is a lot better.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

Right because throwing a flare pass to either demps or rainey took a lot of cognitive ability

Guy on a Buffalo

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

Which is all Brantley seemed to do (short passes) in 2010. At least Weis got him to spread the ball around.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

I just thought they were drawn up that way

Guy on a Buffalo

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

Brantley checked down way too much in 2010. It was ridiculous.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 4:32 PM EST up reply actions

Brantley has been completely screwed

by UF’s coaching staff and all the changes that have taken place during his time. The only decision he made that would be fair for us to question is staying in Gainesville. He’s never had the personnel or scheme to be successful. If we were starting from freshman year with Brantley or Moore, I’d take Brantley in the right system …. IMHO

by RRnole28 on Jan 21, 2012 4:08 PM EST up reply actions

maybe I should say

the only decision he’s made that I question … y’all know more than I do, so I won’t speak for you

by RRnole28 on Jan 21, 2012 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

This is why I keep asking "why do these highly rated players keep going to uf?"

For the past what two – three years now the coaching staffs look like a roller coaster. Don’t get me wrong here, uf is uf but, they’re not winning shyte with the all world talent they’ve been bringing in the past three years.

by mobaynole on Jan 21, 2012 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

Two bad years aren't enough to really hurt recruiting

at least not at a major program like UF. If they’re still sitting at or near .500 after the 2013 season, you’ll start to see a significant drop. I don’t see them struggling for that long though.

by BobLoblaw113 on Jan 22, 2012 11:36 AM EST up reply actions

I don't know about that

A senior should know better than to throw back across the field, deep, and into quadruple coverage like he did against us. Scheme had nothing to do with that. Brantley had most of the physical tools, I’ll agree with you there. In that aspect he actually reminded me of Kyle Wright from UM.

by BobLoblaw113 on Jan 22, 2012 11:40 AM EST up reply actions

He was never not going to be a Florida Gator. His entire family is all Gator. It’s tough to be the one that breaks the streak.

This is the point where Bud comes in with his "Why Stars Matter" link.

At which point you try to justify your new OC’s decision to chase a guy nobody wants, predicting that he’s “just that good” at evaluating players…

by lawdy15 on Jan 20, 2012 8:18 PM EST up reply actions

I’m not saying that it’s everything, but there is something to be said about filling a few holes with players that fit your system. Maybe he’s thinking further down the road, that this guy could be a stop-gap for a game or two (maybe a season) if needed.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

I'm sure he could be

just not sure I’d want to waste 4 years worth of scholarships on a stop-gap, game or two player. I’d rather teach my tight end to throw a few passes if I need an emergency back-up.

by NoleFrenzy on Jan 21, 2012 11:53 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I don’t think it’ll be a four-year waste. Especially with the “new” scholarships.

Why even take a QB

when they already have Brissett (So), Murphy, (RS So) and Driskel (So)? I wonder if any other the 3 have indicated they may transfer? 3 sophomores means someone won’t be getting any playing time.

by supadav1 on Jan 20, 2012 1:31 PM EST reply actions

That’s all it is. Muschamp wants another QB on the roster. Best case for Lynch, is that he is 3rd on the depth chart at this time next year. Behind the winner of the Brissett – Driskel derby (yes, I think the loser will transfer) and Murphy.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 3:36 PM EST up reply actions

Y’all haven’t been having much luck with QB’s living up to the hype lately. Brantley was supposed to win 5 heismans by the time he was a junior, and Driskel was supposed to be a QB version of Tebow

Guy on a Buffalo

by SteadfastNole on Jan 20, 2012 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

Nah. Brantley was never supposed to be the next Xavier Lee. Mostly because by the time Brantley was a Junior, you know, Tebow was there in his way. Nothing was expected from Brantley during that time. Then Meyer promised all these changes, but since he (Meyer) checked out … Brantley got screwed. He actually was having a good year until he got hurt against Alabama, couldn’t take snaps under center…etc.

Driskel, he’s still got time.

have to agree

I hated (though was resigned to) Brantley to Florida; and when I saw him just starting out, the kid was impressive. Later he did not look like the same guy. From what I am learning about Urban, he’s only as good as his staff and he knows how to leave town quickly when the going gets rough.

The kid has to be reasonably bright to even be considering FIT

Not something to underestimate in a QB.

As a side note, who do you think comes out ahead between Brissett and Driskel?

by BobLoblaw113 on Jan 20, 2012 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

When Weis was there, I was 100% sure it was going to be Brissett.

Now, with a new OC, it’s 50/50. I hope it’s Driskel though. Though to be honest, I don’t care which one it is, I just want one of them to set up and take the job this spring.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 6:35 PM EST up reply actions

Brissett is the one that just throws the ball for the sake of just throwing it.

by FlaGators on Jan 21, 2012 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

worked OK for him one out of two times

in our game. Both wild throws went for TDs!

Yeah. He tried that against LSU as well. It was an interception in that game.

by FlaGators on Jan 21, 2012 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

I kind of hope it's Driskel too to be honest (different reasons obviously)

though I guess I could regret that statement later on. From what I’ve seen though, he looks terrified to even be on the field.

by BobLoblaw113 on Jan 20, 2012 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

With our OL last year, I would be as well. Brissett instead of taking a sack or trying to scramble, just throws the ball up hoping for the best.

by FlaGators on Jan 21, 2012 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

Wasn't Sean Maguire not rated or 2* when FSU offered?

Now he is a solid 4* right? If UF offers all the recuiting services will probably make him a 3* by signing day.

by dwhitman32 on Jan 20, 2012 3:33 PM EST reply actions

Kind of how it was like back in the day for Notre Dame and just a few years ago with USC. Any time those schools offered, kid was automatically a 3-4 star player no matter what.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

We're not even talking a 2* here

He wasn’t even evaluated by the major sites. We’re not talking about a kid who has only been offered by UAB and FAU, we’re talking about a kid who only has offers from FAMU, and Florida Tech, who didn’t even have a football team 2 years ago and plays their games at a local high school stadium, and we’re what, 2 weeks from Signing Day?

I mean, maybe the kid’s the sleeper of all sleepers, but that seems like a looooong shot.

He's a 3* most places

He was a 4* by one service when we offered.

Stop

The kid is from Deltona. He might be good? Grew up in Deltona, Deland, and Orange City. Never seen his name. Wish him well. Go to FAMU. The school has 20 seniors every year.

by Fsu3211 on Jan 21, 2012 9:44 AM EST up reply actions

And i mean for him to go to FAMU

UF isn’t doing to good with DeLand talent.

by Fsu3211 on Jan 20, 2012 8:03 PM EST reply actions

Not if we have a bunch of talent from there, but one player here and there won’t hurt anything.

by FlaGators on Jan 20, 2012 9:38 PM EST up reply actions

I wonder if the measurables given here are anywhere near accurate

A kid who’s 6’6 220lbs (that can easily add bulk), with 4.7 speed, and can throw the ball 80 yards is ignored by everyone but FAMU and a D-2 school (at least until now). I just find that a little hard to believe. Even if these numbers were just exaggerated to a semi-believable degree, UCF should have offered him long ago. Either he’s nowhere near that good or UF found the biggest sleeper I’ve ever seen.

by BobLoblaw113 on Jan 20, 2012 10:13 PM EST reply actions

Not just a sleeper but one in Florida. I could almost beloved this if the kid was from Vermont or something but not Florida.

Not buying that

So what QBs would definitely beat him out?

by BobLoblaw113 on Jan 21, 2012 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

I think the only question mark is could he take the hits and what team he was on. You put him on Bama’s team … I think you’d get same result. Put him on Ole Miss’s same result as Ole Miss got this year.

by FSU on Jan 22, 2012 2:34 PM EST up reply actions

I think you’re forgetting just how bad the QB situation in the SEC is right now.

UF has spent two seasons playing everyone from Freshman to converted TEs. LSU is one of the top programs in the country, in the midst of a great run,and still can’t even get serviceable QB play.

I think the only SEC schools where there would be any competition for Moore at all are Georgia and Arkansas. Imagine what Spurrier could do with an accurate soft tosser like that. He definitely wouldn’t have kept wasting time with Stephen Garcia.
