Florida state receiver commitment Marvin Bracy sets the 55-meter indoor high school record with a time of 6.08. From the author:

"At first I thought he had false started while I was filming this and just wasn't called on it with the jump he got on the field. After replaying my video at the meet in slow mo and frame by frame it can clearly be seen that Bracy begins to move the 3rd frame after the puff of smoke from the gun. Since my camera shoots at 30 frames a second, I would estimate around a .1 reaction(or anticipation) to the gun."

Amazing to blow away the feild in such a short race

He definitely anticipated that gun. A reaction time like that is something that means the sound has not even reached you yet. Thats amazing. Fast is to slow a word to describe this kid

If I am correct, at the international level, isn't any reaction time less than one-tenth of a

second automatically considered a false start?

Last I checked

If you leave before the go its a false start, don’t look to deep into it, just enjoy the fact that Marvin plays/runs for FSU

by NYcityNole on Jan 30, 2012 5:25 PM EST up reply actions

However, if you leave less than one-tenth of a second after "go," that is,

one-tenth of a second after the gun goes off, then you have a false start. Takes that long for the athletes to react to the sound of the starting gun. Thus, caine115 is correct in the initial post, this race was as much about Marvin’s reaction time as it was about his speed.

If his reaction time is that good on off the hike on his “Go” routes, then no one will catch him, thats for sure.

Come and see the violence inherent in the system!!!

In track and field you are trained to time the gun

everybody is different but for the most part its always “one-one second, two”

by NYcityNole on Jan 30, 2012 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

He blew those other guys away which I am sure are pretty fast in their own right.

On the football field he will be lined up against CBs that will start out backpedaling and then flip their hips and then…….Bracy will be by them by 20 yards catching a TD pass.

Our DBs like to line up 10 yards off the WR at times. Does anyone think opposing DBs will start the play in full sprint away from him in hopes of keeping up?

Dont Worry, about a thing. Every little thing, is gonna be alright.

Unbelievable - he gets a boost from his quick start, but he cleared field maybe 3-4 yards from the start, and jetted away another 5-6 yards from his speed.

He is THAT fast. He opened it up the whole way. He gets up to speed fast, has a top speed, and it translates pretty well to the field.

The football potential is just disgusting.

I wonder why they dont put little red, yellow and green LEDs in the track to give the runners better reaction times

Like they have for drag racing. The race should be about the players speed not reaction time, though it will always play some part.

It is all technique

Running the hurdles well is all about technique. In the high hurdles, you take 7 steps to the first hurdle and 3 steps the rest of the way. Screw up your steps or lose correct form going over the hurdle ( chest touches knee on lead leg and rotate hips to get trail leg over) and you lose seconds. This becomes even more true in college since the hurdle height goes up from 39" to 42". This running discipline should translate well to WR.

by chemenole on Jan 30, 2012 8:31 PM EST reply actions

My Bad

I thought he was running hurdles. Still, sprints are about correct running form and the discipline still applies.

Think Leonardio Decaprio in that silly gunslinger movie with Sharon Stone.

“Boy was that fast.” I saw it above in this thread. It was said that he can catch. If that is true, with the other complementary receivers that will be lined with him, then everyone else better get ready to jump back if most of the other kids sign with the noles on NSD.

The Quick and the Dead...

It’s funny, while reading the story I was actually thinking about how Bracy might have been one of the fastest guns in the Old West with such a fast reaction time, even if it was anticipated.

Since he is accelerating from a stop,

you can’t use simple distance ratios to calculate 40 yard times. Don’t know if Rusty the Rabbit at the Greyhound dog track could clock a 4.04 out of the gate.

by car54 on Jan 31, 2012 1:04 AM EST up reply actions

hence the question mark

I knew I was missing something. Most of the 6.08, he spends getting out of the blocks and up to full speed. If he had a running start on the 40, then you could translate.
