2012 Recruiting Discussion Thread #48
Welcome to the recruiting discussion thread. Please refer to the Recruiting Board for information on prospects. We are asking readers comment here instead of the recruiting board so that the recruiting board will load quicker. Feel free to talk recruiting news, rumor, information, etc. Amateurs and experts are all welcome. No question is too simple. Have a projected class? That's fine as well.
Once this thread fills up, we will start a new one.
If you post information from another site, please indicate and link to from where you read it.
Specific Player Questions (Check here before asking)
- Mario Edwards Jr.- Edwards Jr has Official Visit Florida State. The only other school in the running is Texas. Most question though if he could insult his father's school at this point. He looks to be solid in his commitment to Florida State.
- Dante Fowler- His recruitment has been very interesting. He's grown up a Florida State fan, but still has ties to Florida. He's taken multiple visit to Florida, including this summer when he was rumored to be leaning toward Florida. He also took in the beating Florida received from Alabama in early October. He's remained a Florida State commitment, but is scheduled to take official visits to University of Southern California, as well as Louisiana State. Those schools should not matter though, as he's been quoted as saying it's down to Florida and Florida State. His recruitment should be something interesting to watch. Dante Fowler looks to be solid to Florida State; Leonard Williams is the only wildcard that may change things.
- Leonard Williams- Many people thought Florida State was done at DE. Perhaps not. Leonard showed out at the Under Armour game, and looks to be an Auburn-Florida-Florida State battle. Experts are saying Auburn at this point.
- Andrus Peat- One of the more intriguing players in this class. Although at first glance you question why a kid from Arizona with a brother at Nebraska would go to FSU, there is some interest here. Peat's grandparents surprisingly live in Tallahassee. FSU still isn't the favorite to get Peat, that's probably Nebraska, but it's not impossible for Peat to be a Nole come signing day. And there is no question that FSU would take him if he wants in. 1/4/12 update: Corey Long of ESPN.com is reporting he plans to visit FSU the weekend of January 20th. UPDATE: Peat did not make the visit due to some family issue. Most believe Nebraska leads at this point.
- Jameis Winston- is a Nole. There's no talk of him switching to hometown Alabama. There's no visits scheduled to Florida State yet (that are known of), but there are none to Alabama either. No need to worry about this point. As mentioned below, he enjoyed his Official Visit.
- Ronald Darby- Five star Notre Dame decommitment from Maryland. Should be a FSU-Clemson battle. Rumor has it that Florida State leads because of their track program, and he wants to play with WR Marvin Bracy (fastest high school runner ever).
- AJ Leggett- will enroll at Marshall. He's not coming to Florida State, where he would've been a sign and place.
- Early Enrollees- JUCO OL Daniel Glauser, RB Mario Pender, P Cason Beatty
- Colin Blake- has decommitted from TAMU. FSU, TCU, OU look to be the favorites.
- Reggie Northrup- 4 star Miami LB commit... or so they think? Grew up a Florida State fan, and some insiders have him flipping to FSU. Comes from FSU feeder school First Coast (Jacksonville, FL).
- Tracy Howard- four/five-star corner Tracy Howard is seriously considering UF and FSU. Many believe UF leads, but he is taking a visit to Miami this weekend and this thing could go in any direction.
Official Visits
1/13/2011

TE Christo Kourtzidis
LB Markuss Eligwe
WR Ricardo Louis
DB Colin Blake

Thanks for a great recruiting season fellas! This will be the last thread.
I know I was tested for my patience with this class. It’s still better than the 2010 class though. Those times had me fearful we weren’t going to get anyone.
For those that are the praying type, my MBA application to FSU is due on NSD, ironically (graduating this semester with a degree in Accounting and Finance). I’d appreciate any prayers. Just finishing my personal statement. If anyone would like to proofread it, that’d be cool too.
Eddie Goldman, Ronald Darby, Colin Blake, Reggie Northrup please

do you know if the online mba program is hard
i was thinking about applying
I love FSU
but tbh, I don’t think the online nor f2f MBA program is that strenous. I think it will depend on if the faculty you take care (and a lot of them do).

Btw, Bud did you go to FSU Law? I’m a 1L there, and I thought I heard you were a grad.
The 2012 class was a little risk/reward with going heavy on top OOS in big football states and it looks like it is gonna work out pretty nicely. Got top guys from Georgia, Texas, Cali, Texas, the Jersey Shore, and Alabama. I think they need to focus on in-state for 3013 since the talent seems to be better than 2012. Didn't go to Tuck or Darden
A friend of mine is at Tuck now and, barring the fact that it’s in NH, he likes it a lot.
I was fortunate enough to get into 3 of my 4 choices. My advice for any B School interview is that there is not substitute to going to the campuses and checking things out for yourself. Check who does the interviews: an interview by a 2nd year student is VERY DIFFERENT from one by an admissions employee – rapport, types of questions, etc. Some interviews are more predictable than others. There are forums that post interview reports and, while you can’t expect somebody to ask you those questions, you can start building a pool and preparing answers. I personally think that an applicant’s job at the interview is to not mess it up. In top programs, 6 out of 10 people who interview get in (on average).
No matter where you go, you’ll have a great time. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to leave my job and come to B School. Best of luck!

Go meet with the MBA administrators and admissions folks
I know this has nothing to do with recruiting. I was on the waiting list at law school and drove up to meet the admissions director a month before school started. I wanted to show them I was interested in the school and take a tour in the event I was accepted. While I was there I was able to make a personal connection with the admissions staff that otherwise would not have come across on paper. The next day I was accepted, and then spent 5 great years in Tallahassee. It is well worth the time and effort.

Might be a stupid question here
Let me start off by saying I realize you don’t turn away talent like Howard. However, how much does FSU really want him? FSU plays a mostly zone based scheme and Howard is good at man. It just doesn’t seem like a good fit.
That's always been the point of contention - he talks about wanting to play a lot of press coverage, and play early.
Those are things this defense just can’t really offer a lot of.
Well that's why Howard wouldn't want to come to FSU
I’m more wondering about why FSU would recruit Howard. It might be that they aren’t spending as much time as I imagine on him but it would seem time could be better spent on other positions. I don’t necessarily agree with recruiting talent for talent’s sake especially with FSU being able to fill slots with highly talented players that work in it’s system.
Oh, well, he can definitely play zone well, too. I think he just prefers to play man. Or thinks he does.
Yeah I doubt he has a full understanding of just what each entails against D-1 offenses in a D-1 scheme. But, what can ya do.
>>---l>
OK, I understand now
I was under the impression that there was a decent drop off on his defense when switching from man to zone but that’s not the case. Thank you.
I was thinking this too DK...
Most bigtime high school athletes just flat out are more dominant physically than their competition.
Man schemes in D1 football are light years away from man schemes in high school.
Totally with you on the notion that he might not have a full understanding of this. Boom-Boom-Pow is probably just trying to build him up on what he is already comfortable in because he coaches a man scheme.

We do quite a bit of press coverage vs the other team's best WR.
For instance didnt we go press man on Broyles, Floyd, and Jeffery? I think Stoops will go press as much as the talent he has will allow him.

How do you explain XR27's press man vs Floyd last game?
I know Stoops runs a zone but he has a history of running press man with his best CB vs the opponents best WR.

There are several variants in zone schemes that allows for press coverage
Including version of the Tampa 2 that can look like pure man press from the line up. Along with several robber type coverages that show press at the snap.
I don't think so.
Year one, no better alternative. Year two, depended on the offense. Year three, bend and break opponent guy.

And I DON'T mean that as a joke.
Gonna have one of the best 2 or 3 defenses, laden with NFL talent at every position group. Bending is avoidable against most offenses.

I have seen XR27 in man several times.
I think Stoops will go press man vs the other team’s best WR if he has a CB like XR27 who can do it.

To complete his game.
Zone is a learning process. To excel at the next level to a higher degree, he would benefit from rounding out his came and becoming a complete player. In man coverage, he is at least a good take as a situational player. If he has the desire to learn, the skills are there to complete his game. Stoops would work wonders with him IMO. Depends on whether the kid wants to learn and increase his value or do what comes easiest (what he’s best at now).
It seems there is another criteria to consider for a DB - the competition.
Looking a this years NFL playoffs suggests that the level of WR/TE play in the ACC is as good as any conference, if not better.

Zone concepts
require more pattern reading and click and close ability than stopwatch speed. Straight line speed is a bit overrated in corners. The abliity to transition and mirror WR’s is whats paramount

This is whats odd to me with Howard
I watched his state championship game and the int he got was when he was playing zone and since this was the state championship i can’t fathom that this was the only game they played zone.
He can do either
man or zone coverage. I’ve heard this was an issue but I guess he truly does prefer man coverage though

Agreed
I’ve heard that NFL scouts will definitely dock you for not having a good 40 time though. One of the posters on here is related to a scout, so maybe he could clarify, but I’ve heard many scouts say successful CBs that didn’t have good straight line speed were more of the exception rather than the rule. I think Alfonzo Dennard’s draft stock depends heavily on his 40 time results.

i realize most good players are smart enough to take the money, but there are some that are even smarter and pick a school that will benefit them in the future, not the one with the biggest bag of money right now. that i realize there are a few intelligent kids (maybe credit really goes to their parents) means i am a realist, not an optimist.

If it is true
that some players are paid, bribed and bought on a significant scale then you would think the players paid less would be outraged and a biding war would result. The ones not on the take would raise hell and civil war would erupt on teams everywhere.
If this happened, plenty people would be blowing the whistle on it and we would be smothered by scandal.
Since we aren’t and since I’ve seen nothing to suggest serious people see wide-spread corruption, I am skeptical. It’s easy to throw this stuff out there, but if you think about it, the loose use of these kinds of comments condems a lot of good kids as being corrupt.

There have been examples of disgruntled players blowing the whistle, however, most players understand what the score is and realize that only top players get the extra benefits. Also, players have to be VERY disgruntled to completely screw over their teammates and friends.
Not to come off as harsh, but the scenarios you are proposing are much more uninformed and speculative than the ones that people who actually know what occurs during recruiting have put forth.

Well I'm an economist first
So I believe all else being equal people will make the choice that most benefits them. Typically financial benefits are easiest to see, which is why I work for a salary and not 3 square meals a day and the promise of a roof over my head. Therefore, I assume if a player has decided to take money they won’t take the lower of two amounts EVEN IF they prefer one school to another and instead leverage the school of their choice into at least paying what the higher bidding school is offering (if not more). I also assumr everyone pays using the same denomination of bills.

The construct isn’t that of a straight bidding war, though. It’s convoluted in a million different ways depending on the circumstance.
>>---l>
Well yes
But simplified, let’s assume, arguendo, that a prospect is selecting between two schools. He has been a fan of one his entire career and the other he recently began to like. He goes through the process and likes both. Let’s say he even prefers the newer school he hasn’t always been a fan of. Now let’s say at some point the first school sweetens the pot. All else beijg equal he preferred the first school, albeit slightly. But now there are monetary considerations. I have a tough time seeing how “prospect” chooses the school he likes about the same as another but who hasnt upped the ante over the school that has. Therefore to finally win out, I assume the offer is most likely matched or exceeded. Maybe that’s naive on my part but that’s how I always pictured these things going.

Speaking in pure hypotheticals, of course, it’s just so individualized. Pot sweeteners come in different forms, often aren’t conditional upon signing but an attempt to influence with a “nice gesture”, implicit future benefits, etc.

But I mean, woth someone like Goldman
Let’s say its been tight the whole way. Now days before NSD Auburn drops off a suitcase with 50K in it. That’s not a simple incentive. That’s pay for play. What I don’t see at that point how the prospect doesn’t attempt at this point to leverage one against the other.

that sounds like something you keep to yourself, even if you admit you paid them.
also, how the hell is Auburn still allowed to have a football team? they have been in trouble or on probation for something like 30 of the last 35 years, and often for just egregious cheating. at some point, you have to take the license of the guy constantly doing 120 through downtown, no matter how much money he has.

Well...
I’ve heard Howard to UM is done, Hamilton is confident in the new HC at Rutgers, Agholor is in love with USC.
So yeah, I think UF is out of it for all three.
As for JHC, we’ll know where UF stands tonight. He’s going to narrow down his “top 2” like Telvin Smith did last year. Which, have to admit, bodes well. Wonder if Telvin gave him the idea.
Probably right.
I’m convinced we’re getting nothing new tomorrow. We have to wait on Feb 10 for Diggs, and he’s probably sipping Urban Meyer kool aid.

Forget the death penalty. That institution should just be shut down entirely with all the illegal actions they blatantly perform. It’s not just a big middle finger to the NCAA, but it’s a big middle finger to all the universities in the general area.
Not saying we, nor other schools don't do what we can to play ball
but Auburn has probably the most storied history of doing, and doing it on such a large scale. And again, all under the keen eyes of the NCAA. And nothing…NOTHING happens to them that has any lasting effects.

Thought he did a decent job back there. He just wasn’t the playmaker many expected him to be. Big ups to him for bringing some good press to our football program in a time of need, but had Roger Williams or Jamie Robinson (who actually made a few plays on a horrible defense his senior season) been wicked smaht, we’d be talking about them here.
Great guy and great tackler, but...
he definitely gave up a few touchdowns that he shouldn’t have because of the bad angles.

no
it would be a player that was in decent shape to graduate, but needed a little work (most do). Casher gave up football and his friends for his senior year, took advantage of the help the new school had to get him better grades, and took full advantage of his opportunity.
there have been plenty of other players to come into their senior year with work to do, and they did what they had to do to qualify. were they all really smart but lazy? or did they just buckle down and work really hard to get their grades up?

Aye
some people do not have the aptitude and some do not have the effort. It is rare to have students with both. I see such a large variation in the freshmen classes that I do teach and there are lots of ones on each side.
This may rub some people the wrong way, but
even though school isn’t as easy for some folks as it is others, we are talking about high school in America; it isn’t exactly the most difficult challenge to get through, comparatively (unless you elect to take tougher classes such as AP courses instead of gym, for example). Given that, we would really need to know what his curriculum/classes consisted of before we could say whether he was lazy or there was some other reason why he wasn’t succeeding. Of course, then you have to factor in the possibility of extenuating circumstances (ex. death(s) in the family, having to help support his family, etc.). Truth is we just won’t know and that is why we shouldn’t paint with that broad brush that RollNole5 is referring to. Just my 2 cents…

those hippies are so high, they will never make it off campus

LOL. Yes. I used to be on there campus frequently. Cal is waaay more stereotypical hippie than Stanford
Stanford band actually seems like awkward nerds that find each other amusing while everyone else looks at them crosseyed.

Any chance Duckett gets treated like Barron last year?
i.e., offered a grey-shirt on NSD, but then there was attrition (e.g., Stuckey 2012), and he makes it in? Note: this assumes that grades aren’t a problem for Duckett.
Championship!
I think Aguayo would get the normal schollie before Duckett- doubt Duckett has grades

For those of you that have ESPN Insider (or if you get ESPN the Magazine you can read it in there once it comes out) here’s a pretty cool article where they anonymously polled a bunch of the top recruits about a number of topics. Makes for an interesting read.

Coaching Staff Efforts in Recruiting
Our staff has done one spectacular job on the recruiting trail. I really admire Jimbo of assembling this staff. I think its a great staff, and I hope we dont loose no one, but if we do, wish them nothing but the best. National Signing Day is tomorrow recruits will make their decisions and sign LOI’s, but in my opinion no matter who we sign etc. our Coaching Staff is definately winners in my book. Hats off to each one of them. Go NOLES!

Unfortunately I have to work, helping people rehabing in therapy. So I wont check my phone until lunch break around 12:30, but I see that most of committed or uncommitted prospects that has FSU in the running, will make their decisions before noon, except for Darby and L Williams if we are to land one if not both of them. Wish I could be here @ home on the board with you all, but wont be the case. So have fun enjoy NSD may be a big Day for FSU! Definately looking foward to reading all the posts tomorrow eve. I’m hoping to land JHC, Howard, Goldman, Darby, and one more if all possible (Northrup, Blake, L Williams, or Agholor). Have a great NSD NOLE FANS!

I thought he was one of our more solid commits.
I was also under the impression he was supposed to be a very mature young man, and was trying to get other kids to come to FSU too. This doesn’t sound like something someone like that would say. I also can’t see with our depth chart why he would be scared off be the signing of JHC, and R.Northrup; besides, they don’t even play the same position, they are OLBs, and he is a MLB.
His supposed comment of “FSU needs me more than I need them.”, while a disrespectful thing to say, is probably true. If it is true, and we need him so bad, why would he be scared off by anyone we sign?
I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this for now, because the whole comment doesn’t make any sense. So I will wait before I render my judgment on the issue.
How sure are we he really said this anyway?

Interesting.
I recall the article about Jenkins where the average NFL DE is 260-270lbs and thought even 290lbs would be a bit heavy. Then again I can’t imagine many tackles surviving 290lbs of pissed off Seminole.

We’re going to pick up so BIG names. Goldman, Darby, and Blake are definite. I like Northrup and I’m calling JHC as well. If we get those 5 and manage not to lose anyone, my head will explode.
If you haven't got your health...
my head will explode
Dogs bark in the night but the caravan moves on.
My finale Mock Class.
We keep everyone we have committed, and sign.
E.Goldman
R.Darby
C.Blake
J.Harvey-Clemons
L.Williams
R.Louis
R.Northrup
A.Ducket (GS)
D.Stuckey (sign & place)
R.Aguayo (GS)
This is about the best case scenario, without any really, REALLY BIG shockers. The biggest shocker would be that we got everyone that we had a reasonable shot at getting, without loosing anyone. That in it’s self would be a shocker.
I think we have an outside shot at T. Howard, and an even more outside shot at N.Agholor.
I know my Mock Class is very optimistic, but I know it is one that we all hope comes together. Well all of us except maybe ♥nole.

Gates definitely thought he was coming as of a couple weeks ago. After he went to visit Miami though, people started singing a different tune.

Tiger Woods was good at what he did. Where does character enter in for you? You are what your actions show you to be when those looking on have nothing else to go on. Look at his decision with Miami, look at how he expresses himself.

You might feel differently after seeing good he’s done post tornado in AL.
He never should of went to NFL. I think he knows that now and was blessed to have Dolphins owner let him go.
He sure kicked butt at MSU (beat Florida in the Citrus bowl with Plax, I think) and LSU. I did see him smile once. He has been steady in his messages over the past couple of years or so. I give him these things. My distaste for him has subsided quite a bit (you’ve worn me down to admitting that); he’s no Lane Kiffen. Then again, he’s no Bob Stoops or Mark Richt. I will give you ambivalence at best. So you “heart” him like, say, oh, Jimbo?
I’m under no illusion that Saban is any more “evil” than any other coach is or would be. In fact, I think Tressel is more loathsome than Saban.

Yep. You create some ‘wiggle room’ just in case you get more (JHC for example) but the best coaching staffs pretty much have their work done and its just waiting on the faxes to be sure. Example, Bama’s not even really thinking about this class – they move on quickly, like sharks. FSU is a year away from that
Are we f’ed, though? No. I have confidence that Jimbo and Co knew the game before it got to this point.

ESPN said something I thought was very applicable
After Goldman committed and before Fowler committed to Florida. You can sign all of these good guys, but they have to play together with their personalities. Personally, with all of the drama and me-me behavior displayed by Fowler during the process, I am glad he decided to go elsewhere. The guys is very very talented, but I was always concerned with how his attitude might affect the chemistry of the team.
Concilation for Fowler?

Yet despite Florida State’s persistent presence in Goldman’s recruitment, Alabama made a strong push. Goldman said he was planning on signing with the Crimson Tide as late as last week.

First thing I noticed, too.
Body language indicated he knows something was “off” in how he handled this.
he doesn't get off that easy.
I’ll take Casher though and be happy. Kid is business. Casher took the year off to get his grades in order. Fowler got his butt sat for acting up.
I have to agree. I liked Fowler’s potential but he showed that he could be a problem with his antics during his senior year. I was hoping that would be cleaned up at FSU but he chose UF and now that is his problem.
what do you think his potential as an OLB?
Compared to DE? He will be a 3-4 OLB with UF. He will need to learn how to cover the flats at times.

so who plays WDE in 2013?
Jenkins is gone, and i only see Casher as an option there. we are great in the interior, but it looks like we will be forced to sign either a bunch of WDE, or a bunch of LBs and play a 3-4 at this rate. we have WDE, and he just signed today.

who plays with Casher?
he cant play every snap, we need some depth. i assume Newberry is a SDE? if that is the case, every DE we currently have that will be on roster is a SDE. Williams is a SDE (possibly growing into a DT) and Nkemdiche is expected to be a LB for us. am i missing anyone? i had no idea we were so thin at WDE. maybe we will just play 2 SDE on run downs to save snaps for Casher.

if Hicks stays, that give him 1 year with Casher (which should work fine)
but we are recruiting Nkemdiche at LB (according to him), even though we arent likely to get/take him. and Williams is a SDE (who looks to be going to USC anyway)

yeah, just looked and realized i had the names confused
Nkemdiche is definitely a DE, and i didnt know we ever had a shot at him. i was thinking Junior Gnonkonde, who is listed as a LB but was coming in as a LB. strange last name, relatively unknown in our recruiting. easy to confuse the 2.

for depth purposes and to allow time for a potential 2013 to develop if not ready for immediate PT

could be 4 5 star players (MEJr, Goldman, Jernigan, Casher) rotating with 4 star players (Newberry, Shanks, mitchell and NLS). I doubt it, but I really hope Werner stays in 2013

Werner is gone, gone, gone.
He’s older than your average player and already married. Unless he gets hurt 2012 is his last year. We’ll have to settle for watching him blitzkrieg NFL OLs for years to come.
Well, now I read this on the chat:
“For what it’s worth, I’ve spoken to Bjoern Werner and he says it is very important to him to be the first person in his family to graduate from college.”
But still think he can come back and finish degree after he tours the NFL. Silly to pass up a contract when you can go 1st round.

Hopefully we are back to the days of dominating defense year in and year out. Mike Tyson put it best-“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
The DTs and DEs will only make our athletic LBs look even better. And the ability to only have to rush 4 will allow us to leave 7 in coverage, or throw some zone blitzes or crazy packages. I myself look forward to third down and long and seeing Jenkins, Jernigan, Edwards, and Werner coming for the quarterback. With the size, strength, and speed of Edwards and Werner, either could move inside on pass rushing downs.

Ok - here's my best rejected question for teh board:
at DE we have:
jenkins, werner, hicks & tank -
at DT/NT we have:
timmy, mcloud, cummings, dawins, mcallister, erving – add to that the return of jacobby
now add mej, casher and goldman -
doesnt this necessarily push someone out of rotation, even to transfer?
and if so, who?

Doesn’t the LOI bind him to the school and the GIA is the scholarship documentation? One would have to be let out of the LOI by the school? I am not sure so please help me out. Thanks.

I’m a partial guy, a ‘Nole fan. Yet, as detached as I can be in assessing this, it seems the original school should be ashamed of themselves in that here is a kid who, by result, had the opportunity to get to a D-1 university for academics and athletics. Too bad he had to jump through hoops to get to the finish line. Then again, I really don’t know the situation.
From how Jimbo was describing it in the PC, it sounded like a pretty messy situation. Even so, I expect a high school to do their best to get someone who has the chance of a free college education in to the university. As an educational institution, that should always be goal #1 no matter what issues there are.

Scout
Has over 40 players rated as 5 stars. That’s the biggest joke of a site I’ve ever seen
by Cee on Feb 1, 2012 5:01 PM EST up reply actions
I see that same sentiment in a lot of places
I tend to disagree with it. Why is 20-30 the magic number? Just because scout is different than the other 3, doesn’t make them wrong or a “joke”. There are tens of thousands of hs football players across the country. I think 50 is not too many to be considered “elite of the elite”. Just my 2 cents…

5* player was originally conceived to mean a player who could start the moment they set foot on campus I believe
I doubt their scouts honestly believe all of the guys they give 5* to could do that

ESPN has only 11 five stars
listed this year. Like AMF said, A 5 star is supposed to be a can’t miss player who can contribute right away and is expected to be a 1st rd nfl player. Some of that is subjective. Seeing 40+ players like this is just funny in the sense that they rate basically everyone a 5.
by Cee on Feb 1, 2012 5:25 PM EST up reply actions
Scout made the directive when they opened (class of 2002)
that they’d have 50 5*s every year. Not a decision made year-to-year.

Its a joke cause you have to earn that status
If something is that damn easy to get would everyone respect it, think about it……
I can see them
doing what the Rams did in the superbowl where they were just running side by side for the last 30 yards staring at each other

Both hopefully on kickoff return.
But I think think G5 stays on punt return.

Karlos Williams
and Joyner were are best kick returners
by FSUNOLES90210 on Feb 1, 2012 6:09 PM EST up reply actions
This year they were.
And even if they are next year, it would be smart to get 1 if not both of our starting safeties off of kickoff return. Especially when we can replace them with football players that also run track. Remind anyone of Demps and Rainey?

When is the 2013 Recruiting Discussion Thread #1 gonna be posted?
These last 5 hours have been brutal since the Darby commitment. There’s nothing to talk about.
Yeah, I'm surprised to be honest.
I thought inertia would carry the commenting on into the night.
Oh well. Bring on Levenberry and Tunsil!
Does anybody have an update on JHC?
Should we forget about him or is there still a slim chance?
heard that his grandpa will end up signing afterall.
UGA.
Besides, Northrup is the better backer. JHC has potential, but for now, give me Reggie.
I think they are both a bit raw. I’ll take Northrup mainly because he wanted to be at FSU.

UF gets 2 2013 LB commitments today
Daniel McMullen (First Coast) and James Hearns (Lincoln)
Wow
Championship!
Was he not supposed to be an FSU fan/lean? I thought I read something a couple weeks ago that he was FSU’s to lose.
by City_Nole on Feb 2, 2012 3:18 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Not sure, but I know we showed intrest
247 doesn’t show an FSU offer for Hearns. Needless to say, this one has a long way to go till 2/1/13
Championship!
Yea I was just referring to McMillan. I know he’s a big time recruit and with that being a position of need this year I thought FSU was def after him. I had thought that he was a big lean as well.

Strange
considering we just signed his teammate yesterday

Wow this is a debacle
2013 needs to shape up quick or we’re gonna have some problems, and in no way is that an exaggeration
That kid was so Nole he might as well ride Renegade to NSD
"But they understand expectations don’t win games. And just because you’re picked to win, they don’t give you the trophy when the season starts. And we tell our kids that we have to form great habits and have great work ethic and form our identity as a team. We just have to reinforce that everyday because as we tell them, the pressure of expectations is only there if we aren’t prepared for them. If we prepared for them and we’re prepared mentally and physically, the pressure of the expectation won’t bother us." - Jimbo Fisher
fowler was a commit for 14 months

True
but considering we’re “behind” in this class, and linebacker was not only an area of need, but the one area we are supposedly “ahead”, this is shocking. This kid was a Nole by any and every account and that he committed to UF instead of holding out says something.

Calm, Soothing Thoughts...
As many have and will point out that there is a whole entire year of recruiting left till signing day.
It sounds to me you have grasped on to the rumor a while ago that “FSU is really behind in 2013”. I believe this is a major misconception that a few people still have. Bud has even come out and said he doesn’t think we are behind and I also think he may have noted that we may be a tad behind only because they were still making very hard pushes for 2012 commits up until signing day. I mean, UF only has 4 2013 commitments as of right now and we have 3, so we are not far behind.
Don’t worry and enjoy the ride. We know this staff is excellent at recruiting and lets just let them do their thing and not over-react to a perceived lack of preparation for the class of 2013.

I know the WR they signed late yesterday, Ralph, is part of that team. A little stunned at the McMillan commit still honestly. Unless there thing I haven’t heard about leading to it.

visited last weekend, really enjoyed
not over by a long shot
It's been reported for a while
we were leading for him…..big day for UF.
The only good thing about our position with some of these recruits is that we should be able to sell them on the success we have and the pub we get throughout the season.
McMillan was "always a Gator"
“He grew up a Gator. He was always a Gator fan and he likes the attitude Will Muschamp has…he’s very excited about being part of Gator Nation, there’s no doubt about it.” — First Coast head coach Marty Lee
Last I saw OL Diamond from Chicago still was uncommitted. Wonder if we are
pursuing him or if there is any interest from either side. Maybe he’s signed by now.
