Will Recruit Tracy Howard Commit To Florida, Miami Or Florida State?
A long article looking at why Howard might choose each school. I do consider FSU to be the longshot here.

"But Florida has the talent to make the improvement, bringing in 38 blue-chip players (consensus four-star or better) in '10, '11 and '12"
didn’t they lose about half the 4 stars fromt he 2010 class though? I2 this the number that is still on the team?
There is always some attrition.
And I would guess that UF had more than their fair share due to the coaching changes, playing time, etc.
With the commitments of Darby and PJ Williams the writing is on the wall.
Howard has already told this coaching staff that he is not signing with FSU. I would have to agree that his best selection would be Florida. There he will get to work with a defensive minded head coach and play his preferred man-to-man.
Has been said many times over on TN
These are young kids, logic isnt always a factor.

Still a great class without him!
Not a huge area of need at the moment, right?
Keeping the best CB in FL away from rivals is always a need.

agreed
but i think it will be hard for the kid to look past what we have now at CB.

Especially considering
When you consider that they are getting Poole, too….
I’m not sure which of those two is “better” but I think consensus is, those two are the best in this state. And that’s saying something!
It's what we learn after we know it all that counts. John Wooden

It kind of is a position of need…because G5 and XR are gone, along with AC this year…1 to 2 on signing day should be good…rather lose to UF on this battle over Miami, because they have the resources for this to be tolerable unlike that small private school to the south…and that would logically convince UM fans that their class is better than FSU’s, ignoring the 15 to 20 players that are just filling roster spots and will not provide top flite BCS program depth
I think FSU fans want him at Miami if he doesn’t go to Tally. Miami won’t be in a position to beat FSU with or without Howard. UF could.

I'd rather him go to UF.
Logic should say otherwise, but I just want Miami to burn like the dumpster fire they are.

how about this
He does NOT go to UF and goes to UM and UM still burns like a dumpster fire!!

We always talk about losing coaches and prospects to greener pastures...
But, we never talk of losing Bud? Thanks for keeping this site #1 for FSU info.

Howard
IMO Howard is more of a zone type guy, CB in a man needs to have outstanding speed and his 40 time is not great.
Press man
I don’t know who plays that coverage all of the time. Our big receivers are the answer to press man, because a 5-11 guy like Howard is going to have trouble with 6-3 and bigger receivers in Press Man coverage.
Not necessarily
Depends on his quickness, strengh, and his playing weight. Alot of what helps press cover corners or onces that excell at Cover 2 like Rhodes, is their leverage at contact and their “punch” to redirect the WR to where he wants them to go. Height can always help but it is not the only important factor. And speed is less a factor when it is press man as Bud mentioned.

I agree, but perception matters in the recruiting game.
by Bud Elliott on Jan 31, 2012 10:37 AM EST up reply actions
I agree on that as well Bud..
I was just trying to clearify that height and speed aren’t the tell all be all in press coverage schemes.

Rhodes
He is an example that is big and fast for a CB and is excellent in that coverage, that is why he is an NFL type CB.
Rhodes
40 time is not elite… I doubt he is much faster than Howard.

40 times?
FSU used to release the 40 times every year, may not have been 100 % accurate at least you had an idea. ESPN has Howard @ 4.65, 5-11 175 which is not bad size for a CB, but Rhodes is 6-2, 215 or so, I don’t have a clue on his 40.
IMO Howard fits our zone scheme, press Man I question it?
4.6 is not elite

by NOLEcasterWX on Jan 31, 2012 11:08 AM EST up reply actions
agree... just don't need it to be much faster in press coverage schemes.
I think he could do well in either man or zone. Think he would be best utilized in a cover 2 scheme where he can use his toughness to stone the WR at the line and redirect him and still have the strength to fight thru a block and be a force defender on the outside.

you resurrected Randy Rhoads
and the best thing you could ask him to do was run a 40?

I am just saying there is not much difference
in a press cover 3 and a press man… 40 times are overated. Quickness is more important as well as physicality at the line and his ability to redirect. Agree to disagree.

It's really simple
Do you want to cover Bracy with just coaches or 85,000 fans watching?
by Dr.KennethNoisewater on Jan 31, 2012 10:53 AM EST reply actions
That's not an accurate question.
Either way, he’ll cover Bracy with 85,000. We’ll fill up Sun Life Stadium, too.

You think S.FL FSU fans won't flock to Joe Robbie in DROVES to watch a beat down of a hated (and formerly elite) rival??
I say they will…….especially when Groupon has tickets for under $20.

at this point, its just sad
it was great to see when we used to be competitive, but it looks like beating up an 8 year old. i am all about enjoying kicking them when they are briefly down, but they are down and out, and tagged in a child to get off the bus.

I take it more as beating up on a current day Muhammed Ali.
A once great champion who needs help to get out of the bed. If you were a Frazier guy, it great to think about whooping him, but in reality, it’s sad and nothing to really brag about.

are you willing to drive down from Orlando every other year to watch the slaughter?
i would go to Tallahassee because it would be like going home, and we actually have a college atmosphere. but i am not going to Joe Robbie to 1) try not to get mugged by a trashy UM fan in the parking lot, or 2) watch the beatdown that will inevitably ensue. nothing will stop me from watching on TV, but not in person.

seems like he really enjoyed his visit to cal. dont think this is a guy we can really lose
i figured
With MEJ becoming official, most recruits would want to join him. seems like we been losing more since he committed
who did we lose besides Louis?

i think we’re gonna lose someone big tho. winston, fowler… someone’s gonna switch tomorrow. i just feel it.
we lost
alphonso taylor, but that was before MEJ making it official
2 others
Alphonse Taylor to AL (they took as a NT/DT, while we recruited as an OT) and DT James Hamilton to USF (he went for immediate PT).

UM has a system
1 2-star + 1-3star = 1 5star.
Look for the Canes to sign 15 5-stars by this rule. Who would NOT want to be on that train?
