The Promise

The comparisons between the 1998 FSU team and 2012 team are eerily similar. This past week's game reminded me more of a different game, one celebrated by many of us here.

Unraked Ole Miss @ #4 Florida

Ole Miss coming off a loss at home to Vanderbilt had no shot vs a UF team that had all the makings of heading back to a NC game after 10-4 season in 2007, and previously winning the NC in 2006. Players on Florida's O & D on all levels were going to be future NFL players: Carlos Dunlap, Brandon Spikes, Joe Haden, Major Wright, Pouncey brothers, Cornelius Ingram, Aaron Hernandez, Percy Harvin, Tim Tebow. You get the point. This team was for real...

31-30 Ole Miss

Enough said. Ole Miss, with their own stars led by their quarterback Jevan Snead pulled off the improbable upset coming back down 10 at the half. Out gained by not out scored Ole Miss went on to a respectable 9-4 season finishing ranked #14th.

The similarities are there, its the way you respond. FSU players, coaches and fans need to respond.

"To the fans and everybody in Gator Nation, I’m sorry. I’m extremely sorry. We were hoping for an undefeated season. That was my goal, something Florida has never done here. I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this. You will never see any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season. You will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season. You will never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season. God bless."

Tim Tebow
