I tried. I really did.
My theory was that okay, maybe it wasn't me. If I had only watched the important games, if I hadn't seen the games we were expected to win handily, if I'd DVRed the Wake Forest and South Florida games, well, that was just dumb luck. No way was it anything to do with me.
It was in the back of my mind, though. I knew that I didn't usually watch crap games back when FSU was dynasty material. If we were playing a Dook or a Virginia, I was happy to watch something else and give away my tickets and watch the highlights on SportsCenter.
And I kept thinking we ought to kick butt this season, and so I should not watch crap games now, either. The theory held, even though I didn't want to believe it, as I DVRed Wake & USF and watched Clemson live. We didn't win pretty against USF, but we won.
So before this NC State game, I said to myself, hey, it's just possible that your karma comes down on the game if you watch like you need to watch and root and care against these crap teams. Maybe your alignment with the stars affects the "durrp" factor for FSU, and game chances somehow against Wake or USF went better by you affecting to not care about those crap teams on game day. So just DVR anything FSU should win, and find something else to watch or do while those games are live.
But I couldn't sit in the house and NOT watch football on Saturday night.
Too much going on. Too much IMPORTANT football going on. So I just left. Took the kids to the store, found anything I could to do outside. Killed time.
But I still got back by halftime.
And getting back, I confess, I rationalized. I said, heck, I can just watch the first half, maybe fast forward through...and before I knew it I was watching the second half live, and FSU was going down in flames.
So I did it this time. Oh, sure, y'all might think different. You might even try to blame Jimbo or EJ or even the refs, but you're just trying to make me feel better. It's not working.
But I won't do it again. I promise. And for what it's worth, I'm sorry.
