Future path from the past for FSU Football

After this past weekend of football I began to wonder what the future may hold for Florida State after the season ends. We only have 2 regular season games left. We will, barring a huge upset, have an opportunity to bring home the ACC Championship for the first time in years. And if you are anything like me, you have had a kid or two since the last time we have brought home any championships. This made me think what was the best course of action for FSU to take to make sure that the Seminole football team is competitive and successful while my generation's children are growing up.

That path is to go independent (again). We would still have our games with "Da U" and that team with the "fruity blue and orange". We could go schedule that game with ND every year. We could play in a kickoff game every other year and not give up a home game (because of the NCAA allowing independents and teams with no conference championship game an extra game). The ideal scenario would be just to drop independent in football, which I would think would make the buyout significantly less. But in any case, if the ACC said it was all or nothing, I would drop out completely. It wouldn't be hard to find a conference for any FSU athletic team. BenDNole furthered strengthened my views on this with his post "ACC Orange Bowl Deal Not So Spectacular". 1.96 Million per school? With ND getting the 27.5 mil? Florida State is getting robbed. We are building the programs for these other schools. For any school in the ACC the Florida State football game has the biggest impact, economically, for that region. And besides as an independent we could pay the $50mil buyout with 2 BCS bowl games or playing in 1 national championship.

In all sincerity, I believe FSU would have a better chance of making the 4-team playoff or BCS NC game as an independent, as opposed to being in the ACC. The ACC is doing nothing but holding the Seminoles down while they take what they want. Maybe we could go independent and sign to play the OB if we are not playing in the 4-team or ranked lower than ND (OB= FSU or ND vs. ACC Champ). If we want to keep the pace with the "Jorts" then we have to make a a huge step and distance ourselves from the ACC. Everything seems perfect now, but what happens when 100's of millions of dollars are left on the table over the next 10 years? If we want to remain competitive we have to run NOW!
