Maryland fan here...so feel free to post questions in this thread.
My take on the game is that FSU should win big. Maryland is not the same team they were earlier in the season, partly due to injury and partly due to losing momentum.
Defense: Maryland has a solid defense. They did lose four year starter MLB Demetrius Hartsfield who was the team's leading tackler and lost DE Andre Monroe in the pre-season, but other than that, the defense is healthy. The front 7 of the defense is the strength of the defense and secondary is respectable, but not as good as the front 7. Maryland's offense is going to improve a lot next year, so I wish this defense was the defense we had next year as we would be an outside contender for the ACC with this defense and next year's offense. However, in real life we lose 5 out of 7 starters in the front 7 which is the strength of the defense. The secondary which returns 3 out of 4 next year should be slightly improved, but I think arguably the defense loses its 5 best players in DE Joe Vellano, WLB Kenny Tate, SLB Darrin Drakeford, MLB Demetrius Hartsfield, and DE/NT AJ Francis. A unit doesn't lose their top five players and not go down considerably.
This offense is awful. A big part of that is we are on our fifth string QB, who was a LB until a couple weeks ago. However, the offense has suffered injuries across the board. Conaboy and Fulper have missed a number of games on the O-Line. However, WR is the position that has been hit hard. Last week we were missing our top WR (Diggs), second WR (Marcus Leak), a fourth WR (Kerry Boykins), and 5th WR (Tyrek Cheeseboro). Also we were missing our top RB Wes Brown, though there is not a huge dropoff from him to the second guy, Brandon Ross. Even without the injuries this offense was bad. We lost three starters to transfers before the season start including a QB (DOB) and our two best O-Lineman (Garcia to Florida, hes expected to start next year inside so you'll see him next year and RJ Dill to Rutgers). If everybody stayed healthy this offense would have been weak, but serviceable but obviously when CJ went down in the preseason, that kind of went out the window.
Maryland is 3-3 in close games.
